Subject: Where is paintball going?
Date Posted: 12 June 2005 at 3:42pm

In the past twenty five years,  there have been many advances in gun technology and game progression.  People now have seperated themselves into either speedball or woodsball.

For the woodsballers, we don't rip out twenty bps but there are a select few in our game that decide to do so.

On the other hand, speedballers easily put out twenty bps and rip through loads of paint.

Everybody can enjoy either one of these games once in a while, even if its not their style.  But the question I am asking about  is the markers.  Where are paintball markers going to in the future?

Do you have any skill if you rip 30bps at the beginning of the game and get three people out?  Is speedball only being dominated by those rich enough to afford electronic markers and uber amounts of paint?

When I have a kid ten years from now I want to know what advancements will be made.  As a paintballer I am afraid that this game will be ruined by technology and the rich.  We need to set limits.  Guns will only get faster.  There have been theories of over commercialization of paintball to make it as organized as football or basketball.  This is not what us woodsballers would like to see.

WHERE IS THE PAINTBALL SOCIETY GOING?

I have played speed-ball. The ones with the blow up bunkers. It was fast very fast. The games lasted between 3 and 5 minutes. I have never seen so much paint being fired. There was one back player on the oposite team that carried at least 12 pods of paint with him. It was a rush a very small rush. I was disapointed. Maybe it's because in didn't have the high-end marker and the cash to blow 1,000 rounds in one 3-5 minute game. I agree with you if Speed-ball is the future of paintball i will probebly not be playing anymore.

I think paintball should move into more realism syle of of play like Air-Soft. Have senarios to accomplish, have 20-30 round hoppers/clips instead of 200 round hoppers. For me this is the type of paintball we should move to.

I can say paintball going back to the woods. More stock class play.

If you are a woodsballer, then who cares about the tiny amount of people who play speedball? The vast majority of players play some sort of woodsball. Speedball is more of a specialised form. Drag racing compared to circle track of stock car racing.

Paintball is slowly turning in on itself and possibly may explode into nothingness. It's so huge, and with rules changing constantly, it will be hard to make it into a legit mainstream sport. I always felt that if paintball were a fruit it would be a grape. Not one of those green seedless ones that taste like vomit, but one of those nice purple round ones with seeds that your neighbor grows in her back yard. Let me tell ya, homegrown grapes grown by my still-hot 40-ish neigbor can't be beat.

Paintball really has a place in my heart, even though I have only been playing for 4 years. I played once in 93 or 94 with a friend, but he had this junky old car that definitely is not a chick magnet. that thing spat black smoke like it was sucking on a death cigar straight from the devil. To top that off it had fast food bags all in the back seat coving the floor, rotitng and actually mutating into a new form of beast that groaned every time we hit a pothole.

so...that's my take. I hope I have enlightened the yung-uns.

what does that have do with the progression of paintball.

as far as technology goes, i just see guns getting smaller, lighter and faster. i think that speedball tournies are going to get more and more maintstream as its exposure increses.

i think that there should just be limits on the speedball courses.....I know that there are in some but i think there should be more...and maybe organized woodsball fields in more places....like all i have around me are speedball fields and i like woods...but just my opinion!

You guys need to stop whining and get back to playing your game. I play speedball and you guys are talking about it as if it is some kind of criminal activity to play speedball. Its just the type of game we like just like you like woodsball. Let us play our game and you play yours. It will never any time soon come to the point where you have no one to play with because every one switched to speedball. Other people share your opinion so play with them. We have worked to get the publicity and advancements that we have now. Im not trying to start a flaming war with you all i'm just saying that this is just another way that people like to play the game.

I play both.

I believe woods players will begin with new tactics and strategies and begin shooting faster still not quit as fast as speedball players who will then be whining about shooting too fast(balls colliding with each other in the barrel) New air systems and eventually a gun that doesn't need an air system(please come to me soon). Also, I see a new type of bunker in the future larger fields for more than just 10-man.

For those worried about either side dying out, that really won't happen.  First off, speedball will keep progressing and keep going mainstream to the point where it will get recognized as a true sport.  However, back to the main question of where is this technology leading the sport; the technology of faster guns and hundreds of more rounds will eventually lead to limits.  There's no other way because someone, somewhere, will finally have to be hospitalized for severe injuries concerning excessive hits due to such high ROF.  Until then, speedball technology will continue to grow haphazardly.  As for woodsball, I believe, or would like to believe, that things will go to a more scenario/realism type where stock play, as aforementioned, will come back to be more dominant.  I mean cmon, who couldn't enjoy the same adrenaline rush from playing stock AND still having TONS of leftover paint from a SINGLE case.  Or in any case, the woodsball/scenario scene will develop limited paint usage to keep things under control.  That's my humble opinion (and I apologize for my posts always being so long).

woodsball will always be around. where im from we like playing at fields but we also have are own courses for the times when we dont have the 20 bucks to go to a field and thats what a lot of woodsball is kids who are just playing in their backyards. and as for the technology aspect eventually rules will be set up to level the playing field so it will be more equal. but we will have to cross that bridge when we get there. i also think companys will start to lower prices as new technologies are found for paintball production. all it will take is a few companys to figure out how to produce cheaper paint and gear that is still good and all paintball companys will have to lower prices to compete.

paintball wont get banned

woods wont die

marker wont shoot 30 bps, its just no logical to shoot  a whole hopper in 2 seconds

I could see a few backplayers trying to empty a whole hopper on one second, but they don't know the secret... it's not your hopper or gun or trigger it's how many stickers you have and how large they are...

woodsball will not die out, speedball will not be banned, they already have rules about speed and as younger players start its not going to drastically change the rules about the 15 bps in some tournemants.

I think X-ball and other forms of speedball will end up in the summer Olympics some day. I dont see Woodsball going much further than it is today. Only the markers for both will continue to advance as far as technology along with paintball clothing and goggles.

But if we all had hindsight we would all be better off.

woodsball wont die out for the simple reason that people like me dont have trhe money to blow off a case in one game i shoot max 200 balls a game also people like me will still want to play woodsball because its just plain cooler and if the guns turn out to be more advanced then is suitable for woodsball i'll pull out my trusty A-5 and everything will go back to normal and im sure tippmann will make new guns that will only shoot a couple balls a second like the a-5 but with technological advancement in other directions besides speed such as size weigth and comfortable handling        &nbs p;   speed ball wont die out because its the one that makes all the money in the paintballl industrie i have 3 guns in my entire paintball "career" but i know guys who have had hundreds becaus ethey always need the faster gun also they waste money on paintballs speed ball makes money woodsball doesnt because A CASE CAN  last u 10 games or more youre guhn doents need the latest fancy upgrade because all you want out of it is accuracy get a not bad barrel medium speed get a r/t or an egrip  with an a-5 you migth want range get a flatline (it helps with accuracy too)if you want a good handling get yourself an a-5 with a a remote and the 90degree forregrip and maybe a stock youre set up for a great gun for maybee 600$  SPEEDBALL ive seen guns going for 1600$ with nothing on them

anyway neither will die out     and if youre looking for me ill be playing woodballs even in 2032 unless they cut down all my trees then youll see me in jail for shooting them to death

yea in speedball they just waste paint i mean lets think theres $85.00 cases of paint ( 2000 rounds ) and i mean 2 games and your like almost 200 buck and i belive speed-ball we become very big ( i dont like speedball at all really) and then nobody is gonna care about woodsball and as said 30bps = skill? (no it a waste) and in speedball there isnt a much skill/startgrey as woodsball you just hide behind big blow-up things and shoot as fast you can it stupid and that why i like woodsball every weekend we get 20 ppl or so and just go out and have fun for a few HOURS and not just mins this is just my opion

Its not the paint that makes speedball exspensive its the entry fee for the field that screws me up I use more paint inthe woods cause its harder to hit a target because of brush wheres in speed if they out of cover then there out of cover.

I believe that both forms of paintball are and always have been kept alive not by mainstream coverage, but by personal recreation. If you want to classify faithful paintballers, I'd say 80% are pure recballers. Paintball is still pretty well that weekend stress reliever, or getaway for most people. Granted, there are a growing number of "pros", but unlike mainstream sports (basketball, baseball, etc.) fame has never really had anything to do with paintball's popularity. It's fun. If they shut down all fields and banned paintball in the USA, people would still play. Because another proven fact is that paintball is addictive. Like crack. In fact, we're all just a bunch of silly paintball crac-wait, I can't say that here.

I think that it will be pretty much like it is now.  I think that speedball will always be televised and more people will go to watch woodsball games.  The only thing is that woodsball deserves it's attention.  Players need to get huge scinario(sp) games going and more woodsball attention.  Woodsball is the backbone of paintball.  It's pretty much where all paintballers start.  They get their lower-end semi-automatic marker and play with some friends.  They see speedball games, and they think that they would rather do that.  The reason there are so many more woodsballers than speedballers is for a few reasons.  Some people can't afford speedball and it's requirements now-a-days.  They also would just rather be stealthy and sneak around.  Some of them play both too.  There are a lot of players that play some woodsball and speedball.

This is what I think is going to happen.  It will be the same pretty much, but what I wish to happen and prove me wrong is that woodsball becomes more popular.  I want it to be known that woodsball is the backbone of paintball, and that there would probably be no speedball if it wasn't for woodsball.  I don't know, it's just my 2 cents.

lol isn't it pretty obvious? speeds of up to 40 and 50 BPS will probobly become common with high end markers and then their will probobly be a speed limit set in speedball cources for the first time...

higher quantities of air stored in smaller sized tanks, farther shooting guns, lighter guns, new air sources, maby co2 and nitro and maby even paintballs will become less expensive. thermal lenses might come standard in all masks. more acurate barrels and paintballs. better grenades.

And by the way, woodsball is going farther. Much farther. The SPPL (scenario paintball players league) has recently opened, and its first national competition is during the summer. With better prizes then i have ever heard of in any speedball competitions. http://www.scenariochallenge.com/ - http://www.scenariochallenge.com/

it has already happened with 15 bps caps.
also without cheater boards, bouncing and ramping boards nobody can sustain faster than 15 BPS more than a few seconds. it is not humanly possible w/ 2 human fingers.

thats where the cheater electros come into play.

nobody is going to shoot 40-50 bps without full auto or cheater boards and a freking fast hopper.

realistically dumping your pod in 4 seconds ins't a smart thing to do.

yea speedball is gonna be more famous, but woodsball is always gonna be around, as long as there are places to play and it isnt overly crowded. and there are 30 bps guns (MACDEV Cyborg http://http://www.macdev.net/us/stockcyborg.htm - http://http://www.macdev.net/us/stockcyborg.htm ) and rampers are gonna get more efficient and better to conceal/ cheat with. gun are gonna get lighter and more gas efficient and prob eventuyally not need a tank, compress the outside air. i think the prices will also later decrease. barrels will get shorter, lighter, and more accurate. thats my 2 cents. oh yea, heat seeking paintballs  and of course in the future, there has to be paint flame throwers and underwater pb-hehe.

I KNOW that woodsball is not going to die out. I know this because of where i live. I live in Phelan CA. If any of you know where that is than you probley have no live as well.  Where i live there is desert as far as the eye can see in every direction.  The way i started is the way that i know every other kid in the country will start out.  Buying a twenty dallor blade from the local wal-mart, find a dirt lot, and shooting it up till the is gone.  I personally thing that paintball should become an olimpic sport.  Woodsball and speedball.  I do feal that you should be able to rent those high dallor guns from a speedball field and then return at the end of the day.

Thats my opinion.

Woodsball will always be around, with most people playing it instead of speedball. It all depends on how different people prefer to play. I play woodsball because it is more realistic, and it is how paintball actually started out. The whole deal with insanely priced guns is just crazy. Too few people realize that it is not the amount of bps that you can fire, but the skill of the player. Highly priced markers give a bad name to paintball, they just show how the flashiest and fastest markers are said to fire so fast. Seriously, without going full auto, or without a r/t or e-grip or anything, I don;t see how anybody could really fire 20 bps, or why they would want to use a thousand rounds in a single game. And most of those rounds are wasted shooting bunkers or empty air. MAybe about 1/250 might hit someone. I just don't see where the logic comes from to make high priced markers like that.

My opinion is that paintball will return to its roots in woodsball.

Shells ARE biodegradable. Paint shell is made from gelatin, not plastic. It melts in a weeks worth of rain.

Ill tell you where paintball is going to go (already going), youll see 3 or 4 enormous gun makers as the only ones left after they sue the pants off anyone with a little innovation.

yea. agreed. but chubs, i diagree with u. those guns are worth 1300-1700 bucks. some kid rents one and drops it in the mud.. ooops. another lays it down on a rock and it falls off and gets scratched. oops. they cant rent out those kinds of guns for the simple reason that some kids will get jealouys and break it because they dont have it, or because its not theirs, not take care of it. it jst wouldnt be profitable to buy guns like that to rent them- even if it is more to rent, cuz it will cost that to get it fixed once warrenty is up

i like woods and speedball, but speedball is more fun in my opinion, but if you have 20 on 20 in woodsball that would top everything except civil war style 30 on 30 in the middle of the field is the alpha of paintball and speedball is the  omega of paintball, theres a little biblical history for ya, even though speedball will never be banned.
