So me and my band were playing in our last talent show (were all seniors), like we do every year, and I was wondering what song we should do.

EDIT- Hit enter to early, anyway...

There is another band we always compete against, so the song needs to be somewhat flashy, and catchy.  I was thinking "Radio" by Alkaline Trio, seeing as how I already know it, and it wouldn't take but one day of practice.

Do you have any kind of music you like most?

We did some song for our 5th grade talent show, by the same group as "Father of Mine". I don't remember which group that is...

We play anything.

Sopohmore year we played Rock Show by Blink 182.

And Last year we did Are you gonna be my girl by Jet and Empty Apartment by Yellowcard.

And then I was with another Acoustic band and we did Jack Johnson's Flake.

The winning Prize is only $50, but it still buys a few packs of strings...

I have no good ideas.

The ones you've picked in the past seem to be pretty good, which means you've got a "standard of excellence" to live up to. Uh-oh...

I'd say Beatles just-about-anything is pretty good.

If you play anything, I think it should deffinately be rock, deffinately be something classic, and deffinately be something somehow quirky.

I'm so useless.

*EDIT* Never heard of it. I'll see if I can't listen to it...

Not downloading music has it's ups and downs...

Radio by Alkaline Trio is really fast and catchy.

It makes me seem like I'm alot better of a guitar player than I really am, so it gives us a better chance to win...

Well, the band we play against has a EXTREMELY great lead guitarist.  He played Voodoo Chile (Stevie Ray Vaughan) in the guitar club meeting.

But in all honesty, our members are alot more popular than his (I know it sounds shallow, and it is) so we should win hands down.  (Student Body cheers for the voting process)

GlassJaw and Cedric, I'm downloading both your songs as we speak.

I can play pretty much anything you would hear on the radio, but I'm pretty sure The Mars Volta has alot of leads, and our band consists of 3 people.  (Bassist, Guitarist(Me), and Drums.)  And I sing, so I can't be playing anything to complicated, because I'm simply not good enough.

I have no clue, I wish you would download it.

It's extremely catchy and somewhat fast, so it looks really good.

Time to Waste by Alkaline Trio is also very good in terms of flashy-ness. What do you think?

Get me some lyrics for Radio and I will tell you if its the same.

Ever played Trio before? Just wondering how your vocals will come out (His voice is hard to match)

I would go for somthing alittle upbeat and funny.

NOFX - Bob  (You can edit the cursewords in the song if you need to)

Still not showing up....

We get one 5 minute set (give or take), so I could probably squeeze two songs in...

And I just heard the Mars Volta song, simply put, NO.

Whale, Very few people at my school know the band Alkaline Trio, so I'm not thinking it's got to matter.

We played American Idiot at Homecoming, and alot of people said I sounded like Billy more than anything else.

I'll get those lyrics, gimme a sec to edit out some words.

Alkaline Trio - Radio Lyrics
Shaking like a dog CRAPPING razorblades,
waking up next to nothing after dreaming of you and me
I'm waking up all alone, waking up so relieved
while you're taking your time with apologies,
I'm making my plans for revenge
Red eyes on orange horizons
If Columbus was wrong I'd drive straight off the edge
I'd drive straight off the edge

Taking your own life with boredom,
I'm taking my own life with wine -
it helps you to rule out the sorrow,
it helps me to empty my mind
Making the most of a bad time
I'm smoking the brains from my head
Leaving the coal calling the kettle black and orange and red
This kettle is seeing red

I've got a big fat FREAKING' bone to pick with you my darling
In case you haven't heard I'm sick and tired of trying
I wish you would take my radio to bathe with you,
plugged in and ready to fall

Shaking like a dog CRAPPING' razorblades,
waking up next to nothing after dreaming of you and me
I'm waking up all alone, waking up so relieved
while you're taking your time with apologies,
I'm planning out my revenge
Red eyes on orange horizons
If Columbus was wrong I'd drive straight off the edge
I'm seeing red

I've got a big fat FREAKING' bone to pick with you my darling
In case you haven't heard I'm sick and tired of trying
I wish you would take my radio to bathe with you,
plugged in and ready to fall

Plugged in and ready to fall
Plugged in and ready to fall

Plugged in and ready to fall

The lyrics arent the best, but like I said, the songs catchy.

I CAPPED all the words that were changed so you get the idea.

Heck then go with more GreenDay if you got the voice. Plus your lineup matches them, so no real problem with that.

It just hit me.

You want somthing fast, upbeat, and easy?

Do the two big GreenDay cover songs.

Blitzkrieg Bop, and I Fought The Law.

Have you heard their cover for teenage lobotomy?  I can already play that, and we have only practiced it so nobody has heard it yet.

And I could fit that and Radio into the same 5 minute set.

I wanted to play Hitchin a Ride by greenday, but the band didn't agree because they said it was to weird.

If you really want to impress some people and win hands down write your own song. People love originality.

But if not, something upbeat, flashy, and fun to play try

Checkmarks by The Academy Is...
or
Any song (as in any of there songs) by Between Home And Serenity

I suggest writing your own song though. You would have fun doing it too.

To be perfectly honest, writing something would just be to much of a hassle, and I'm lazy because I think something by someone else is alot more coveinent.

And BTW, the talent show isnt until September.  But we wanna go ahead and have the song nailed down.

Trailer Park Jesus (This is a MUCH slower song, but it is amazing and I'm sure you would get a great applause from the audience.)
