Anyone going? Special guests on every tour is The Mars Volta, so
naturally, I'll be there. They are opening for SOAD, so i'll just leave
when system of a down takes stage.

I'd totaly go if it were just The Mars Volta. I got an e-mail

Don't worry about it, you like what you like because it means something to you, and thats all that matters. I'm not one to pick on anyone, but Ced, for one to be calling others judgemental you sure can do your own part in the act. And Trogdor, who are you to talk about crappy lyrics? I garuntee when you went through your Hendrix phase you can't explain what half his songs mean. I've seen you post about loving bands like Killswitch Engage as well, and we all know the lyrics in KE's music isn't very thought provoking. ------------- |

Hendrix = Drugs/wierd dreams. Killswitch = Drugs. I'm not going to lie at all. Their lyrics are crap, but Hendrix was an incredible guitar player and KE's music is ideal for biking/running because it gets you up and moving. I will agree that SOADs lyrics make absolutely no sense. Although I do like the guitar in it and some of the different styles they play.

As a guitar player myself, I for one can tell you that is by no means an easy song to play, and with your previous comment about any bum could play that (or something along this lines) is simply put, stupid. So the lyrics may not be very deep, just because their not what you consider good, doesn't mean they can't influence someone else. PS- Funding won't help you become a better guitar player, just so you know.... ------------- |

I do agree with the funding thing and the influence thing as well, but really, a few kids at my school could do a pretty good rendition of that song at the talent show if they really wanted to. I don't know, dude. Ok, first off I like both bands. That said, you can't tell me that TMV's lyrics don't sound just as random, if not more so, then SoaD's. For an example I got some ATDI lyrics beause my lyrics site did not have TMV. Stop it, you're going to make SOAD fans sound like Metallica fans "well, since people are critisizing our music, lets just say that we don't like any of their new stuff" They are still putting out solid tunes, and becasue of this, a huge new wave of listeners has been brought forward with this new album (not that I like this new wave). Mezmerize was everything I expected from a SOAD album, except without the pointless songs like "Mind" from their first album. So what if they changed their hair, personally I liek the way they looked a couple years ago, but that has no bearing on the band themselves. I have not found BYOB to be their best song from the new album, yet far from it, it would definately be my least liked song on the album, although it is still good IMO. The lyrics make no sense? Compared to some of the Mars Volta lyrics I have heard, jsut from this thread alone, BYOB lyrics seem pretty straightforward: It is basically their latest protest song... BYOB - Bring Your Own Bombs (Which is referring to the idea that people should fight their own wars, instead of sending thousands of innocent people to fight it for them) Why do they always send the poor? (Many of the soldiers overtseas are not executives, but the average Joe from down the street, like it always has been) My God is of Bible blood with pointed ears (Not completely sure  )

But instead I will keep my comments to myself, as Apu stated, I only say this becasue I havn't gone and listened to all their stuff, and analyzed each and every song, as a TMV fan would, and this goes the same for TMV fans, they would not listen to all of SOAD's stuff, and discover what it is that SOAD fans like. I see SOAD as more of an aquired taste, for example, when I was like, 9 or 10, I boguth their first cd used at a trading card store, for "Spiders", and basically was forced to listen to the rest of the cd, sicne I had just spent my money on it, at first I found it too rough and hard, but after a couple lsitens started liking it.
First I feel sorry for you, that you have to belittle other people's interests to get your point across, and second, the lyrics are meaningful and would be extremely hard to write on your own (I find most all of SOAD's lyrics to be brilliant), and the guitar is far from crappy, Daron Malakian is an amazingly skilled, not to mention fast guitar player. If you don't believe me, download "Soil" and listen to the solo(s), he can take a moderately simple guitar line and make it... very hard to play. ------------- Tenacious and Versatile |

BYOB isn't really a hard song to play. Hendrix stuff makes it look like preschool learning. The only thing that makes BYOB difficult is the fact that the guy plays it so fast. I will also say that BYOB and all of SOAD rules. The words may be a little out there but with some imagination they form a clear picture. ------------- I need to find smaller pictures for my profile. |
