I would, but I'm really not too interested.

Sorry.

Yeah, that was the dumbest reply ever. I'm in that mood today.

I'd totaly go if it were just The Mars Volta.  I got an e-mail about it a while ago and thought about it, but decided it wouldn't be worth it.

Yeah...
Now I'm kinda thinking this would be lame. First off, the venue they are playing in my area is a sports arena. It'd be like a huge mosh pit. Can you say lame?

Another downer would be that the SOAD crowd would be there for the most part.  That would suck.

Don't worry about it, you like what you like because it means something to you, and thats all that matters.

I'm not one to pick on anyone, but Ced, for one to be calling others judgemental you sure can do your own part in the act.

And Trogdor, who are you to talk about crappy lyrics?  I garuntee when you went through your Hendrix phase you can't explain what half his songs mean.  I've seen you post about loving bands like Killswitch Engage as well, and we all know the lyrics in KE's music isn't very thought provoking.

Hendrix = Drugs/wierd dreams.
Killswitch = Drugs.

I'm not going to lie at all.  Their lyrics are crap, but Hendrix was an incredible guitar player and KE's music is ideal for biking/running because it gets you up and moving.

SOAD's "BYOB" could have been made in a day by a drugged up psycho with a budget of $200.

At least your not a liar and judgemental.

I really wanna see what Trogdor has to say.  I honestly think I could post some of TMV's lyrics and he couldn't tell me what half of them meant without someones help.

I will agree that SOADs lyrics make absolutely no sense. Although I do like the guitar in it and some of the different styles they play.

Can someone tell my why mars volta and soad are palying together? They are extremly different. Its like having dave matthews open for slipknot.

I saw an interview with TMV on Fuse the other day.  They say it is because of their similar political views.

Someone who doesn't play guitar may think that BYOB takes alot of talent to play?  Who are you to tell them that what the think is awesome sucks?

We should just tell all golfers they don't have any talent because they wear goofy clothes.

-I doubt almost anyone on this forum could play BYOB, so therefore their music is more talent inclined than any of us, correct?

They only have one of two ways to lean....

So basically their the minority, and they prefer it that way.

I'm not telling anyone what to think.  I'm saying what I think.  I'm sure that someone on this forum could play BYOB with the same ammount of time and funding that SOAD had to play it.

I don't really get the golfer comment, but that doesn't really matter.  I just really don't like SOAD and I think their songs are crap.

As a guitar player myself, I for one can tell you that is by no means an easy song to play, and with your previous comment about any bum could play that (or something along this lines) is simply put, stupid.  So the lyrics may not be very deep, just because their not what you consider good, doesn't mean they can't influence someone else.

PS- Funding won't help you become a better guitar player, just so you know....

I do agree with the funding thing and the influence thing as well, but really, a few kids at my school could do a pretty good rendition of that song at the talent show if they really wanted to.

I don't know, dude.  I'm just being pissy because my bike just broke and now I've got to get a job to get an entire new fork and 2 wheels...

It's totaly my fault.  I used a rope as a chain (bad move) and it all sort of colapsed inward from there...  Lack of sleep can make you do some incredibly stupid things.

You really love to start fights don't you?

And I am arguing music, but your tendency to play on words will try and prove that false.  My whole point is that music is different things to different people, so to tell someone that something sucks is somewhat moronic.

If I'm wanting to feel good before a game, I may listen to Hatebreed.  While I'm taking a bath, I may listen to some Enya.  Regardless of what anyone else thinks, it what the music means to me, so who can tell me what I truely feel sucks?

You push the lines of hypocrisy extremely hard...

A band sucks because of their clothing?  Yea, I agree, their music doesn't matter as long as they look good

Is it on their website, tour dates and all?

Ok, first off I like both bands.  That said, you can't tell me that TMV's lyrics don't sound just as random, if not more so, then SoaD's.  For an example I got some ATDI lyrics beause my lyrics site did not have TMV.

"[A]top this podium
split in confession
(they like it)
dripping with drool from the nerves of this sentence
dripping with drool from the nerves of this sentence
"

Yes, these sound so well thought out, and make complete sense...

I'm still waiting for cedric to explain to me what the hell this excerpt means

"The Al Sirat hides behind a wardrobe of eunuchs
Seconds collide with the padisha scandal
The cauldrons have eyes by way of racket and vice
A brothel's bedpan filled with demimonde lice"

I doubt anyone here that is bashing TMV has really given them a try. And I like both bands. I actually have a TMV cd with a few SOAD songs to rawk out to in the car.

Al-Sirat-("The path". In Muslim tradition, the bridge to Paradise. Al-Sirat is narrower than a spider's thread and sharper than a sword. Only the good pass swiftly over it, while the wicked fall down to the mid-Hell it spans. Also called Bridge of Jehennam.)

Eunuchs-(The English word eunuch is from the Greek eune ("bed") and ekhein ("to keep"), effectively "bed keeper." This indicates the traditional role of the eunuch—as a reliable keeper of a ruler's harem. Other servants or slaves were also castrated in order to make them 'safer,' either in childhood or later,Informal. An ineffectual, powerless, or unmasculine man.)

padisha-(padishah 1. Used formerly as a title for the monarch of Iran, 2. Used formerly as a title for the sultan of Turkey)

cauldrons- A state or situation of great distress or unrest felt to resemble a boiling kettle

vice-An evil, degrading, or immoral practice or habit.,A serious moral failing.,Wicked or evil conduct or habits; corruption

demimonde-A class of women kept by wealthy lovers or protectors, Women prostitutes considered as a group.

lice-Slang. A mean or despicable person

provoste-provost- The keeper of a prison

froked-A robe worn by monks, friars, and other clerics; a habit.

labefaction-The act of labefying or making weak; the state of being weakened; decay; ruin.

Venal-# Marked by corrupt dealings, especially bribery: a venal administration., Obtainable for a price.

inoculated- To introduce a serum, vaccine, or antigenic substance into (the body of a person or animal), especially to produce or boost immunity to a specific disease.

mono-an acute disease characterized by fever and swollen lymph nodes and an abnormal increase of mononuclear leucocytes or monocytes in the bloodstream

ataxia-Loss of the ability to coordinate muscular movement.

opiate- Inducing sleep or sedation

Copulation- To engage in coitus or sexual intercourse

The Al-Sirat hides
(The path to paradise*heaven* is hidden)
behind a wardrobe of eunuchs
(The eunuchs or "Bed Keepers protect the bridge to paradise")
Seconds collide
(Time is drawing near)
till the padisha scandal
(The padisha is trying to get into Al-Sirat but is being rejected)

The cauldrons have eyes
(The stituation of unrest is building, The Padisha is becoming more and more restless)
by way of racket and vice
(This has all been caused by the Padishas serious moral failing)
A brothel's bedpan
Filled with demimonde lice

(The house of the Padisha's mistresses is filled with despicable people ex: the mistresses)

Dethroned by the comatorium
(The Padisha was Removed from his high ranking postion, he has gone into a coma and is near death)
De-loused in the comatorium
(The Despicable People have been removed away from the Padisha)

The-Al Sirat hides
Behind a wardrobe of eunuchs
Seconds collide
Till the padisha scandal

Tribunals installedc
Now that the provoste has been de-froked
(The Padisha is being Judged by a committee, instead of the Prison keeper, they will determine his fate)
The labefaction is venal
(The Padisha state of weakening is corruptible, which means he is able to keep him self dying in the coma by bribing the committee or he may be able to obtain entrance into the al-sirat at the price of something)
My how these tricks turn themselves
(The Deceptive lies and plots fuel other lies and plots, the cycle of decpetion doesn't end )

In the wake of the inquisition
Limbless answers inoculated
(after of the tribunals decision, incomplete answers have been completed )
I've caught mono bobbing for barbed wire
(The Padisha has caught mono from trying to escape through the barbed wire )
These nasty sores of ataxia
(The Padisha's body is ridden with bed sores)
will feel the sting of the opiate copulation
(Sleep inducing intercourse)

The Al-Sirat hides
behind a wardrobe of eunuchs
seconds collide
Till the padisha scandal

The Al-Sirat hides
behind a wardrobe of eunuchs
seconds collide
Till the padisha scandal

The Al-Sirat hides...

Did a good job w/ google searching there

Personally I don't know if I'm going to go. Ever since Serj began looking like Weird Al I just can't think of it the same way. He'd ask for a song request to the audience and I'd yell "Amish Paradise." Just ain't workin for me.

Stop it, you're going to make SOAD fans sound like Metallica fans "well, since people are critisizing our music, lets just say that we don't like any of their new stuff"

They are still putting out solid tunes, and becasue of this, a huge new wave of listeners has been brought forward with this new album (not that I like this new wave). Mezmerize was everything I expected from a SOAD album, except without the pointless songs like "Mind" from their first album.

So what if they changed their hair, personally I liek the way they looked a couple years ago, but that has no bearing on the band themselves.

I have not found BYOB to be their best song from the new album, yet far from it, it would definately be my least liked song on the album, although it is still good IMO.

The lyrics make no sense? Compared to some of the Mars Volta lyrics I have heard, jsut from this thread alone, BYOB lyrics seem pretty straightforward:

It is basically their latest protest song...

BYOB - Bring Your Own Bombs (Which is referring to the idea that people should fight their own wars, instead of sending thousands of innocent people to fight it for them)

Why do they always send the poor?
(Many of the soldiers overtseas are not executives, but the average Joe from down the street, like it always has been)
My God is of Bible blood with pointed ears
(Not completely sure )
Victorious, victorious steel
I would think this refers to the victor's gun or sword)
Can your spending kneel?
(Possibly suggesting that "spending" should be stopped or slowed down)
Marching forward hypocritic
And hypnotic computers
(This could refer to the President or higher ups, computers, as have been programmed hypnotically as being hypocritic in the sense that the Iraq war was initiated while tryign to de-arm them of WMD's, while the USA itself has thel argest number in the world)
You depend on our protection
Yet you feed us lies from the tablecloth
(They depend on the citizens to fight the wars and protect the country, yet all the while only telling them as much as they need to)
La la la la la la la la la la
Everybody is going to the party
Have a real good time
(The citizens at home are living comfortably, living their lives)
Dancing in the desert
Blowing up the sunshine
(All the while, their country is waging a war on the other side of the world)
Kneeling roses
(Not sure)
Disappearing into Moses' dry mouth
(Could refer to Iraq or the middle east)
Breaking into Fort Knox
Stealing our intentions
(Fort Knox being a metaphor for a very secure place, our intentions being manipulated into someone else's)
Every city, gripped in oil
(The world, and some say the Iraqi war, is controlled by money or valuables, such as oil)
Crying freedom!
(Yet at the same time, the war is said to be to liberate the peoples of Iraq)
Handed to obsoletion
(Possibly that freedom is not necessary in the goals of the higher ups)
Still you feed us lies from the tablecloth
(All the time, covering up the truth)

I could say stuff about alot of bands that I don't particularily like, for instance I could say that TMV sounds really whiny and when I first heard The Widow, I thought it was a woman singing it.

But instead I will keep my comments to myself, as Apu stated, I only say this becasue I havn't gone and listened to all their stuff, and analyzed each and every song, as a TMV fan would, and this goes the same for TMV fans, they would not listen to all of SOAD's stuff, and discover what it is that SOAD fans like. I see SOAD as more of an aquired taste, for example, when I was like, 9 or 10, I boguth their first cd used at a trading card store, for "Spiders", and basically was forced to listen to the rest of the cd, sicne I had just spent my money on it, at first I found it too rough and hard, but after a couple lsitens started liking it.

First I feel sorry for you, that you have to belittle other people's interests to get your point across, and second, the lyrics are meaningful and would be extremely hard to write on your own (I find most all of SOAD's lyrics to be brilliant), and the guitar is far from crappy, Daron Malakian is an amazingly skilled, not to mention fast guitar player. If you don't believe me, download "Soil" and listen to the solo(s), he can take a moderately simple guitar line and make it... very hard to play.

Both bands are really out at extremes as far as genres are concerned. So I don't really get the argument over this.

and i think "kneeling roses" means the soldiers that are "dissapearing into moses dry mouth" are dying in the war in the middle east. but i aint too sure either way you made a well thought out post but as for me saying that tmv had some weird songs means that they didn't appeal to me  and am sorry if i angered anyone

BYOB isn't really a hard song to play. Hendrix stuff makes it look like preschool learning. The only thing that makes BYOB difficult is the fact that the guy plays it so fast.

I will also say that BYOB and all of SOAD rules. The words may be a little out there but with some imagination they form a clear picture.
