i saw under a thread that a guy said to "Buy some of those Dr. Scholls Gel foot pads and cut out the shape of your rear bolt and get a glue stick and glue it onto the back bolt." has anyone tried it and if so, is it worth doing to your gun.

^ Thank you!!!

Iv heard of doing this, as well as using leather or cardboard... Its sad isnt it? It would probaly help a little, but cause some pretty negative effects.

You can put shrink wrap on the sear spring to stop the "ping"

Rocket cocks can help, but most of the noise you hear is from the sear.

Search google for heat shrink wrap.

i bought my tubing from fleet farm in the electrical supplies, but i'm sure most hardware store would have some.  model98.net said to use 3/16" tubing and cut it .5 inches long.  then you just slip it over the spring. DO NOT SHRINK IT!

it's all from the sear and the barrel. The rocket cock just plugs up that hole that quiets the return air from the valve. and with a stock barrel these 98s aren't quiet at all.

Mine.

Drop the pressure- the canon sound comes from 800 psi air entering 14 psi air very violently. After you drop the pressure as low as possible, get a quiet barrel (carbon fibers are usually the most quiet) with good porting. I've heard of 98C's dropping to around 250-270 psi. I belive it was teflon coating and polishing and of course the LPK.

As for the ping, thats usually rust on the inner portion of the coils on your drive spring.

Putting any type of padding on around the valve pin will slightly decrease valve dwell, masking your gun shoot less air and affects velocity.

A rocket cock will only make it seem quieter because the blast of air isn't coming out by your ear, it's mostly isolated to the barrel and out the trigger frame with those installed.

The guy is using the pad in place of the "O" ring usually installed between the hammer (rear bolt) and the back cap to cushion the impact between the hammer and the back cap as the hammer is blown back after firing. I use a disk of red rubber gasket material obtained at Home Depot and cut to size. Take care not to get this pad or cushion too thick as it will prevent the hammer from traveling far enough rearward to engage the sear (the gun can't cock).
