i was gonna do a search on tis first, but i couldnt think of a relevant keyword (C02 grenade? exploding grenade?) but i was thinking about a non harmful way to make a grenade actually explode. why not put the paint in a bladder similar to the ones used on paint mortars, maybe a little tougher to survive being thrown around, and have a small C02 container connected to it with a tube running into the bladder. when you pull the pin it unblocks the tube running into the bladder and the C02 starts expanding into the bladder untill it bursts and sprays paint everywhere. it seems simple enough to have been thought of before, so i was wondering, is there a reason it has been ruled out? as far as cost goes, you could make the little C02 tanks re useable, you just go pick them up again after the game and re-fill it then attach it to another bladder. And i would think that a small C02 tank sraying C02 would not be much of a threat to anybodys health. ------------- "are you kidding? theres no way they can get us from way over h...." |

Well, for starters, unless the release of c02 was regulated, the C02 being released from the tank/cartridge would not just trickle out and expand the bladder at a reasonable pace. Instead, the C02 would rapidly escape from the cartridge and blow up (ie, explode) the bladder almost as soon as you pulled the pin. And if you had a regulatory unit on it to prevent the rapid decompression from the C02, the price and complexity of one of these things would skyrocket to the point that it would be easier and more cost efficient to just shoot them witha normal paintball. And, C02 containers have a lot of liquid in them. Liquid that normally vaporizes into a gas under normal, gun shooting circumstances would instead be forced into the grenade bladder, creating a) frozen paint and b) a big, cold, mess. That's why this wont work. |

hmm, i c mybe a re useable unit where you only replace the bladder? also running on compressed air rather than C02. the reg would be expensive, but as a re useable bunker buster, it could be worth it

Search http://www.google.com - www.google.com for paint mine. It's kind of like that. Not really, but pretty much what it'd be like. You just don't throw it. By the way the CO2 cylinder would fly off if it wasn't in the ground. |

Or a grenade where you don't pull the pin, throw it, then the guy on the other team thinking you're an idiot pulls the pin to go throw it back, and as he pulls the pin out the grenade sprays his face. | Go get a water balloon and fill it with water to the point where it does bust. The water just drops, it does NOT splat everywhere. Your idea is not really going to work because all the pressure would be released at once like a water balloon. The paint grenade has to have only a small opening for all the pressure to come out(like the Tippmann grenade and other grenades). The only way the co2 is going to work is in the mine that has already been made. |

Yet another problem is that CO2 is really Cold. I imagine that the co2 would freeze some of the paint inside and possiblly make it dangerous, but it might not. I can just see someone throwing a grenadethen saying "Crap! I think they explode if you mix the paint and vinigar. You'd have to keep it seperated until just before you threw it, two different sections of rubber tubing maybe. ------------- pain only hurts for a minute |
