Here's the deal:
I have a 98 Custom, GTA X-Chamber, Ricochet Apache Loader, Dead on Pro-Seal, CP one piece 16" barrel, GTA double trigger, and I have a rear trigger stop, pen spring mod, polished internals and thats it. I've had my 98 for about 1 year and 4 months. The problem is that every time I go to shoot with my full 20oz tank, it starts to sputter, double fire, and chop almost very couple of shots. Note that once the tank empties out to having maybe 300 shots left, it goes back to normal. IT ONLY SPUTTERS, CHOPS AND DOUBLE FIRES WHEN THE TANK IS FULL. I'm not sure if it is a tank problem, both of my 20oz have the same problem, but when I use 12grams it is fine, nothing happens with a 12gram, or if the sear and/or rear bolt are worn out.

The only thing I can think of is did you oil it?  Cause thats happened to me before and once I oiled it it went fine....

yeah I oil every time I play. I also am pretty much forced to open it up and clean it every time I play because it gets all gummed up from all the chops.

Would that actually make it double fire and stuff?? I do have an X-Chamber, and I don't get any snow out of anywhere so....

Is it better to call or email Tippmann??

In that case call Tippmann. It could be a bunch of things, such as a rounded sear or somthing.

is the tank screwed all the way in it sounds as if the pinvalve isn't pushed all the way in possibly starving the marker for air but it does it with both tanks and if that was the case it shoot fine at first and taper off..............mmmmm that's a tough one could be a problem with your sear it's possible when your tank is full it's slamming the rear bolt back so hard it's rebounding off of the o-ring cushion with enough force to push it past a worn sear????? does the gun have a million shots on it?

Im not sure how many shots are on it, but it's probably around the mid or high hundreds of thousands. The sear does look a little bit rounded, so does the rear bolt. I was thinking that maybe because I polished my internals, the full tank might be pushing the bolt back too fast for the sear to reset.

i would borrow a friends marker and swap the sear and rear bolt to see if thoes are the bad parts if it works then you know what you have to order or just send it in (be sure your friend knows your intentions before you dissasemble his marker)

No I dont want to spend more money on paintball than I already am.

My buddy has a 98C in way better condition than mine which he never uses anymore courtesy of his new Spyder Electra '05. Ill ask him if I can fiddle around with the two 98s. Ill get back to you guys about what happens, hopefully within the next week.

ok, I was looking through www.tippmannparts.com, and for the 98 rear bolt it said that tippmann redesigned the rear bolt? It says that the "old style", which apparently I have is no longer available. Has anyone else heard about this? Does anyone know what serial number the change occured at?

Can anyone who just recently bought a 98 or a Custom Pro confirm that new designed rear bolt? look at tippmannparts.com

EDIT: I ordered a new rear bolt and sear, they should be here either Friday or Monday. I'll let you guys know what happens.

EDIT(AGAIN): I just got back from playing today and everything worked perfect!  The problem was that the sear and rear bolt were worn out.
