I have a theory:

The movie is too good to be just a movie. I feel as you're watching the opening scene, you get drugged. The rest of the movie is a hallucination of the best movie you can possibly imagine.

Just a theory, so, yeah.

I liked Band of Brothers for entertainment value. I do not like Stephen Ambrose (the writer of the book) so I thought the story was very dramatized. However, the series was done quite well.

The cinamatography in BHD was extremely similar to that of SPR...to say the least.

So true weird story here-I woke up this morning and said "I want to see Saving Private Ryan again." I've been saying for months they don't ever show that on TV, and that's wrong. So I go buy the movie today-and it comes on TNT. No big deal really, since I hate edited movies, but ironic nonetheless...

I think SPR is probably the finest WWII film ever made, with the possible exception of Patton, or maybe The Longest Day (I love that movie).

Wasn't edited, cause they showed the warnings after every commercial break. And you know how once in awhile they're allowed.

Yes black hawk down is based in a true story.. Loosely. They make out our troops to be saints and heros. But we deserved what we got.

Did anyone else know the funny truth about Black Hawk Down?

The US Government will approve war films and sometimes lend them vehicles to use for the films. This brings down the budget cost of the film and at the same time gives the US Military a 2-hour long advertisement.

Cooperation approved. But the Pentagon did insist on one important change: the name of McGregor's character, a real-life Army Ranger named John Stebbins, couldn't be used in the film. Stebbins was one of the heroes of the battle of Mogadishu and won a Silver Star, but by the time the script was submitted for approval, he had been court-martialed for molesting a 12-year-old boy. The military didn't want anything to do with him, so McGregor's character was renamed Danny Grimes.

Interesting. They probly dont want everyone remembering his as a hero. The people that have organizations that do things like create databases for sex offenders would deffinatly have a problem with a film depicting him as a war hero instead of a predator of little children, wich really, when i think about it, isnt really bad. The army was also ashamed of his actions.

BHD was good the first time I saw it. But after the initial awesomeness wears thin it becomes pretty lame.

With SPR you become attached to almost every character.

The Thin Red Line was decent...I never saw it to the ending though. It came out almost the same time as Saving Private Ryan, which was a disaster. There are quite a few old ones, but I highly recommend The Longest Day.

Im a WW2 buff.  Who else is?  I got mad during saving private ryan when the german slowly stabbed that guy and was chanting something and the little wimp dude heard it but did nothing.  First time i've yelled at the TV in a while was at that poo nanny guy...

The boot camp in FMJ was awesome-the rest of the movie was alright. Definately wasn't as realistic as SPR, but it's almost twenty years old. As far as Vietnam, Apocalypse Now and Platoon were pretty good, and We Were Soldiers was probably the most realistic as far as the combat. Hamburger Hill was terrible, as was the previously mentioned Green Berets.

Some of the FMJ quotes I can safely put on the forum:

"Did you start out as a disgusting  or did you have to work on it?"

"I didn't know they stacked  that high!"

"...then you'll be a dead. And then you'll be in a whole world of -because Marines aren't allowed to die!"

Great movie.

Its cinematics are great, a beautiful movie.

Its story is great too. Soldiers go into somthing thinking one thing, go out thinking another. Just a smart movie.

Hehe, my freshman year we had to write term papers about WW2.

This kid claimed that the US didn't do anything in WW2 until D-Day. I'm like "Are you sure it's not Pearl Harbor instead of D-Day" and he's like 'Yup"

The teacher said he was right.. even after I proved them wrong... made me laugh so hard.

Actually the 'D' in D-Day means, more or less, just "Day."

It was just considered the Day.

Basically this or the M1. WWII's guns for the most part were rather large...But you really had to be an officer or a paratrooper to get one of these bad boys. Or pick it up off a dead soldier. A sniper wouldn't be too bad either.

The thompson is too inaccurate for me, especially firing a .45 cal bullet.
