Subject: An abundance of mediocrity
Date Posted: 08 July 2005 at 11:54pm
An observation has recently been made by fb. In previous months, and
even years, Thoughts and Opinions has always held the top spot for pure
volume of posts. However, Upgrades and Customizing has traditionally
been the leader in number of threads created.
Recently, a disturbing trend has formed. Through an avalanche of
pathetic, moronic, pointless, and just plain sad threads, T&O has
fallen from being the haven of intellect and wit into the lair of the
thick skulled ones.
Reason would have it that as the number of threads increased, so to
would the quality and humor held within the majority of said threads.
Alas, no such prediction has held true. Instead, we are faced with the
deprivations of poorly concieved and painfully boring threads, in which
people are sadly lacking in funny.
Travel through the archives if you will. Previous years hold pages and
pages of hilarious threads. Even such deplorable events as the
departure of Joe Snuffy held great amusement within the bounds of their
posts.
All that is asked is that the spam cease and desist, as your misguided
attempts at acheiving some far off post count are - to be blunt -
annoying to read, and make this humble corner of the internet that much
less enjoyable.
As an aside, this thread is not a complaint; it is simply fb dispensing some thoughts and suggestions to the masses.

T&O is fun...even with said spam. C'mon-you can only make so many topics on "Did We Go To War For The Right Reasons Vol.122230049". Especially late at night-and there's plenty of threads here. I understand what you're saying, but I think it's still just part of a really cool forum.
Really the problem comes in with the petty soap operas and the annoying noob posts like "poop on all of you" (some of you may remember that one) that just serve to be random idiocy.

I'm asking for people to stop making mind numbingly boring threads. I
don't care if your friend didn't come over, I don't care if you screwed
up with yet another girl, and I certainly don't care if you feel the
need to quote someone 15 times to break a thread. *cough*
Two of the above three instances could be made into humorous threads if
their creators has at least a marginal ability to conduct humor,
emotion, and drama through words, a skill in which many here are
miserable failures.
Take, for instance, rhino39s classic threads about getting drunk.
Nobody gives half a damn, but because they were written with such wit
and style, the majority of replies were of satisfied forumers who had
gotten a fair return on the time spent reading that thread.
Now, I know some of you are probably, right this second, scouring
T&O for threads I created with less than half the effort to make
them into something great. Well, all I can say is, good for you, I'm
not complaining, I'm simply trying to make a suggestion.

But it's your decision not to read them. I rarely read posts like "My Girl Dumped Me Oh Noz". I don't really care. But it doesn't hack me off or anything. And there are some people who actually are into that kind of thing, so hey.
Like I said, there are plenty of intelligent, funny, witty, and sometimes even helpful posts on T&O. And there are the ones that make almost no sense...That's what makes it T&O.

Just a suggestion, the MIA Model98.net eliminated their post count and any form of ranking based on that, and this greatly reduced the spam in the threads. Hint Hint

I agree with your suggestion. People should really think about the content of their thread before posting it.
I suggest that before anyone posts a new thread, read it over after
you've typed it up. Think about your thread from an outside
prespective. If someone else posted it, and you read it, would you even
care about it?

Such is the point of T&O in the current stage of things. No
one cares if anyone will like their posts, unless they are serious
threads. Other than that..so what? I post to have a good
time, nothing more or less.

I'm aware that most of you are giving me flak for posting this, and I
don't care. Truth is, I have little respect for most people in this
thread, because time and time again you have failed to produce anything
remotely resembling intelligence in my dealings with you.
You all seem to think that I am complaining or whining. I am not, and
prior to posting this, I realized that many of you would find great
enjoyment in trying to insult someone else and make them look foolish.
Good for you. Guess what; I don't read half the posts by many of you,
because I already know they will contain no substance.
If you are incapable of understanding what I am trying to convene to you, then so be it.
Props to hitman.

I don't think I insulted you one time Sniper-I simply disagree that the posts are ruining T&O, or making it less enjoyable. So whether you read my posts or not (I don't care)-I haven't hurled any insults at you.

I know you didn't. I also never said anything is being ruined. You are
one of three people in this thread who said anything worth being read.
I don't like the direction this thread is going, as some of you are
still thinking I am out to turn this place upside down or something.
All I'm asking, not requesting, is that you use some of those brain cells from time to time.
On that note, I take my leave.

BTW... how does this thread contain wit and humor? the things you crave so much in everyone elses posts?
keep on useing phrases like: If you are incapable of understanding what I am trying to convene to you, then so be it. it doesnt make u seem smart or intelligent or anything. its just obnoxious. if your so much higher and mightier than all of us, then get the hell out of this forum. we wont miss you (i promise )

Anyways...I've noticed a LOT of the crap threads that have been out recently are all buggs...the other ones aren't that bad. People are just making REALLY lame posts that turn into spam because the subject sucks so bad.
I blame society.

It's all about the members.
We used to have a bunch of experienced, intelligent, somewhat mature members.
Now, whenever you try and have a good debate, it is hijacked by a bunch of geeks who don't even have anything to offer the thread.
People on this forum just have no originality and are sorely lacking in "game".
They just regurgitate a bunch of crap, trying to sound as adult and intelligent as they can.
It's easy to see through.

Another thing that irks me is in the past the members were actually so invovled with the forum, this place had a newspaper.
Recently a yearbook thread couldnt get more than 2 posts that actually talked about the subject......
In other words nothing memerable happened here in over a year.....
