I have a Pro Carbine that leaks every once and a while out the
barrel when I gas it up. Sometimes I can make it stop by adding extra oil in the ASA. Are there any tricks to tell if it is a bad valve or bad orings on the hammer or valve. Trying to avoid buying a new valve and would like not the be a parts exchanger. thanks |

I would disassemble the marker, clean it, check the connections, O-rings, etc. Then oil all the moving parts and put it back together, gas it up and dry fire it. If the leak continues try to pinpoint it. And then go from there. ------------- <Removed sig for violation of Clause 4 of the New Sig Rules>

thanks I tried that and even took the valve apart (what a pain)
everything looked fine. put it back together and gassed up and shot fine for about a month. Than started again so I took apart and cleaned it. did the same thing. All the o rings looked great. thanks for your help. |

If the valve is cocked it sounds like you already figured out the trick. The valve o-rings are wearing out (drying out) and oiling them up a little will let them seal better. In the end you will eventually need to replace them though. If you don't feel comfortable, take it to a proshop. Most proshops should easily and cheaply be able to do do a simple O-ring replacement on a P/C, but one associated with a field will definately be able to since most fields do (or at least did) rent P/Cs. Did you try the old trick of dripping some oil into the ASA and firing
off a few shots without the barrel on? Sometimes that will take care of
small leaks. The valve o-rings arent too tough to replace, you just need something sharp like a dental pick to pry out the valve snap ring. -------------

Or instead of a dental pick, just head to the hardware store and by a pair of ring clip plyers. I just picked up a pair this morning the work for internal AND external rings for $20 at Lowes. The O'rings in the valve are the main thing in the valve that can go wrong so in essence if that is the problem it is the valve ... but if you feel comfortable changing it you have the problem under control. Nah snap ring pliars dont work for opening a valve. Its a spring-style
snap ring, its basically just a coil of flat thin metal wedged into an
internal groove. Its pretty annoying to try to get out sometimes.
