Hey!
Just a lil story I thought many of you would find amusing.
Last night I took my girlfriend out with me to go to my buddy's house who's just a few towns up and after sitting around his house for a while, he starts bugging me to go drive around with him and go mailboxing.
I said no at first because I had been up to nearly 48 hours and was tired and was ready to go home but it wasn't long before his persistance broke through and then before I new it I was cruisin' the backroads with my buddy and my girlfriend loungin' in the back(my car's a 2 seater coupe).
The way it worked was we'd find a good candidate...a house w/lights off and a lil ways off the road...one of us would get out, beat the crap out of the thing...then we'd book it out of there 'til we found another victim.
Well as our night was nearing about 1am, my girlfriend noticed headlights behind us that seemed to be closin' in fairly fast so I hit the accelerator a little harder hittin' about 75...when the lights kept comin'...I knew it was time to fly.
I floored it...hittin' around 90 on these bumpyass narrow backroads before I turned off onto a main road and headed south...I kept it floored and hit 121...passed a van stopped at a 4-way hoping that the guy who wasn't far behind wouldn't run the stop sign like I did so I'd distance myself even more but he ran it...passed the van and kept on me.
So I turned off onto some more backroads until I hit another main road and headed for the expressway.
I got off after about 10mins(for those from MI...I got off of I69 at Flint and I live in the middle of Shiawasse County)
Well the guy followed me all through Flint and back onto the expressway heading back the way we came...but on the way back he turned his hazzards on which scared me because that made me wonder if he was trying to point us out to waiting police officers.
So I got off where I got on at, ditched the bat and headed south again towards the town where I live.
I got about a mile down the road where I had to turn onto a differnt road and as I was rollin' up to the stop sign...I saw blue and red lights flash up in front of me, so I stop, and then my car was surrounded by a total of 4 state police cruisers, a genessee county sheriff, and a state boy on a bike.(<the biker's the one that flashed first and stopped me)
So all together...I had 6 police vehicles stop me.
And from what I heard on the radio...they had more at other locations waitin' for me.
But anyways...after being stopped, the officer on the bike told me to get out the car and put my hands on my trunk...he then frisked and searched me while another officer pulled my buddy and girlfriend from the car and then proceeded to rip apart(search) my car.
They then frisked and searched my buddy and started asking him where the bat was, he played stupid until the officers started talking about beating him with the bat when it was found and then he started apologizing and we both then admitted to what we had done.
Blah blah blah...skipping a few unimportant deatails...we were told that in a few days a warrant would be issued for both our arrests at which point an officer would come to our houses to apprehend us...take us in to be booked...put us in holding cells until our bonds were set and paid...and then we'd appear in front of a judge for Malicious Destruction of Property which is a misdemeanor offense.
And my buddy's 18 and I'll be too in 9 days but even being 17...I'm still considered to be an adult in the legal system.
So bein' let off for being junvenilles is out of the question.
So now I wait...

Thats what you get for admitting to your crimes. When you are forced into something like this you deny deny deny deny and get a lawyer, then the next day or 2 days afterwords, go get what you ditched. But get a lawyer.

K how old are you? Do you have any priors? You were driving so that deffinatly makes you an accesery to vandalism if you werent doing it yourself. Make sure you go back and get that darn bat back and hide it someplace else. When you get arested dont say anything dont talk to the police even if they say they want to help you. They will lie to you no matter what, all they want to do is get you in jail. Tell them your name and thats it, thats all you have to tell them. Dont tell them what happened, dont talk to them, they will try and trip you up. Tell them your name and that you want a lawyer.
Also, if they havent arested you, and they are trying to talk to you. What they are doing is trying to get a confession without having read your maranda rights. See, you arent under arrest, so you dont have to have a lawyer, so you could end up spilling your whole thing, then they just say, OK you are under arrest. If that happens, just get up and leave, they are trying to trip you up.
Here and now, the Police are your enemy and they want you in jail no matter what they tell you.

I don't have the time... and I'm lazy. :)
Although it amazes me what people admit to on the forums that have the potential to nail them to a wall.
Between smashing mailboxes and the guy bragging about the components he may or may not have for full-auto firearms without a Class III license... plus the fact that some of us have access to their IP addresses...
But while I wouldn't waste my time or effort on turning anyone in... I am accessing the forum from a Federal Government computer... so if what I browse is further reviewed by DoD or the FBI... I might be essentially turning them in without trying.

Why would he be scared to post it here? They already have his name and info and all...you guys don't seem to read too well.
He's caught, and now he's just sharing the cool story with the rest of us. I enjoyed it.
But of course, the only replies he gets are from internet know-it-alls who have done nothing wrong in their lives, except for not doing anything at all.
Seriously, lighten up on the guy. I respect him more for airing his dirty laundry than all you people that are judging him.
Even though I don't agree with vandalizing innocent people's property, the dude would have been shot at if he did that at my house, but the fact is he wasn't actually hurting anybody, so I think it was a reasonable attempt at some childish fun.
He got caught, he's taking his lumps like a man, and I respect him more than the people that are kicking him while he's down.

The cops have his info, are planning to issue a warrant for his arrest, take him down to the station, release him when he gives them money for bail, then he still is gonna have to go to court and be at the judges mercy....what would you call him, happy?
Have you ever been arrested or been to court? Was it a happy and joyful day? Most people I know get kinda nervous and uncomfortable with things like that, and I can't blame them.
It's a bad situation anyway you look at it. I didn't see him as bragging, I saw it as a cautionary tale.

I would think just the opposite! He was so upset by this event, that he felt compelled to warn others of the dangers of mailbox bashing.

I don't think a quarter stick would blow up my mailbox. It's a tank.
Once I saw a mailbox mounted on a car suspension spring. If you ask me, that's a damn good idea. Of course, this is an area where it's more common to get your mailbox hit with a car than to have it smashed by someone with a bat.

Maybe it took until the cops talked about getting the warrant and putting him in jail...either way, I am pretty much positive that Lawless knows the results of his actions...he just went through it!
Who says he's escaping anywhere? I don't know where you got that from. All he's doing is sharing a stiry, about how one dumb-ass thought/comment from your friend can lead into some pretty big trouble.

This is what I am talking about. He isn't "down on his luck" - he is a criminal. And I see no need to help him talk about or get things out in the open.
Because I see plenty of regret that he was caught - maybe even a decision not to smash more mailboxes. What I DON'T see is any actual remorse or acknowlement that his actions were wrong. Not just illegal - WRONG.
He vandalized private property, and he endangered lives, both police and civilian, including his girlfriend. I see no hint that he regrets his crime - I see only regret that he was caught.

This is the way I see it: everyone has done something that tey knew was wrong at one time or another.
Some people are down-to-earth, and willing to admit that, and even discuss their dumb acts.
Then there's those dellusional people, on their high-horse, who of course have done the same stupid stuff, but act like they are better then the next guy, just because they don't ever admit/discuss it!
Personally, I have more respect for the dude that puts it all out on the table, and isn't scared to be judged for what he's done.
He broke some mailboxes, and drove fast to get away....it's a misdemeanor! He'll be forced to pay restitution or some sort of fine(his debt to society), the broken mailboxes will be repaired/replaced, he has learned his lesson, and we get to learn the same lesson without the trouble, all because he was MAN ENOUGH to share his mistake with us.
In the end, all will be fine, and everyone will get a new mailbox out of it.

He was speeding on the backroads, IOW, a place that is not residential. Yes, he endangered his friend and girlfriend, but didn't they admit to go along with it? Hell, his friend was the one begging to go!
So, he endangered his girlfriend who was an accomplice,a nd his friend who was the mastermind...hardly anyone I would worry about! LOL
He did endanger whoever was chasing him, but then again, the guy didn't have to chase them! Just call he cops and let them do their job. The guy chasing them was endangering lives just the same.
Everytime you speed on the way to work, you endanger 100's of people's lives. But I'm sure you've NEVER sped.

Well... "not that bad" is your interpretation, and that's fine. I'm sure the property owners have a different interpretation.
And you can defend him and his actions to the extent of those beliefs that it wasn't that bad... and continue to chastise those who berate him and call him a fool.
But while you think it's "harsh" for those to do so, I don't see how it is. You even said so yourself "Personally, I have more respect for the dude that puts it all out on the table, and isn't scared to be judged for what he's done." Well... some people here will most certainly "judge" his actions, as you stated.
I'm sure lawless doesn't need any reminders that what he did was wrong. I'm sure he doesn't need any reminders that he has some punishment coming to him... but I'm also sure that by posting here... he's gonna get some!
When posting about a crime, no matter how minimal it may seem... you're opening yourself up for criticism more than you are for sympathy. Unless you happen to be posting in a forum dedicated to thugs. :)
And I do question why someone would post admission of guilt, because it further incriminates you! From what I read, while they admitted guilt to the police anyway... posting about it can be used against you should you decide to lawyer up and deny certain aspects of the crime. May not be pertinent in lawless's case... but it certainly is for others.
And smashing mailboxes from a vehicle doesn't constitute "life in the fast lane" to me. It's mere stupidity. And I'll say that not from a high horse, but as someone who's done stupid stuff as a kid myself. Never from a vehicle, and never involving a mailbox. Those just add to the stupid-list.
I never got caught doing stupid stuff in my youth, but if I had... and if there had been an internet around for me to post about it... I'd expect to get the same response. It's not about anyone here being on a high horse or stating they've never done something wrong. I didn't come to a complete stop at a stop sign on my way to work today. Even though I was the only one at the intersection... I broke the law. I'll fess up to that. But, can me not coming to a complete stop compare to me smashing up a mailbox along the way? Not really.
You can sympathize for lawless all you like, and try to spread blame to others like the guy who chased him... but don't expect all of us to view it so lightly. Crimes a crime, no matter how slight. And there will some here who will take the opportunity to slam him for it... because they can.
So long as his nose has been clean up until now... he'll probably get off relatively lightly. On the Federal Charge alone he's looking at what? Maximum $1,000 fine and/or 3 years in jail? Doubt he'd get that. But there's a chance... in addition to whatever local charges are brought up against him, and whatever compensation he is forced to pay to the homeowners.
He'll have those that wish him luck, and those who hope he falls. Again, as you stated... he brought it out in the open. That being the case... he'll get responses from both sides.

Shorty BP, simply put, if you have nothing nice to say, and no positive advice to offer, why not keep your negativity to yourself? I'll tell you why, because this is the internet, and the whole reason is for people to share their thoughts and opinions!
My problem is how big a deal you guys make of it, and the fact that you guys are beating a dead horse!
Lawless knows what he did was wrong, anybody in their right mind knows what he did was wrong.
My issue is, is it really worth dissing this guy?
Justice is being served, he doesn't need a bunch of internet geeks to tell him he's a fool...I'm pretty sure he figured that out once he was caught.
Basically, I can see Rambino's point: Lawless is not sorry for what he did, and I actually kinda agree. Your point seems to be, he knows it's wrong, we all know it's wrong, but let's just rip on him and beat a dead horse anyways, just to make him feel even worse...where is the logic inthat? Other than being a **edited** to someone who is coming out and saying he made a mistake.
Now, I'm not gonna fight a fight for someone that doesn't want to fight for themselves, so I'm not gonna get all into this.
I will say, I'm tired of the high and mighty act of everyone on the internet...it's easy to say,"You shouldn't have done that" after it was done, but what help is that? None, other than stroking your own ego for kicking some poor guy while he's down.
I stand by my statement, that everybody who is dissing this guy has done something worse, but aren't willing to post it publicly.
It takes a lot more balls to publicly out yourself than it does to snipe at someone who is putting themselves out there.
Actually, it doesn't take any balls to rip on a vulnerable person, just a negative attitude.

The thing is, none of you guys were vandalized! I could see you getting your panties in a wad if he broke your mailbox, but you guys are all up in arms about a little vandalism that doesn't involve you at all.
I pay rent, and I own a mailbox...if someone broke it, I would be pissed.
But the fact is, this guy hasn't done anything to me, so I have no right to rip on him.
Everyone just has that mob mentality.

Well... my original posts, as far as I can tell, don't imply anything towards further degradation of Lawless... other than me poking a little fun.
And I will agree, it most certainly doesn't require any testicular fortitude to rip on someone through a computer screen. At the same time, given it's the same screen... it doesn't take much testicular fortitude to put yourself out there either. The screen "protects" you on both accounts.
But again... it's laundry aired... and in doing so, you have just as much chance of the sunshine giving your clothes a fresh clean scent as you do a bird coming by and crapping on them.
Not saying it's right or wrong to defend or chastise him. Just stating that both are bound to happen.

My house and property gets vandalized all the time.
I spend about 100 bucks a year in damages that my dogs create because people like to fire off firecrackers, which are illegal in my city on days that are not even holidays.
Aslo people like to spray paint words, gang slang, and mark my property to identify it as their own...
Before those things happened I have had cars keyed, windows smashed, house Tped and my neighbors have had their mailboxes smashed. [Mine is set in a thick wood frame.] So yeah, I think I do have the right to point out how stupid Lawless' actions are, have been.
Also if you look in other thread, Lawless doesnt have the best driving record seeing as how he totaled his car last year. If things had gone a bit differently the other night, he could have already lost his second car...

Well said. And to Hades, we've had our car egged too. It didn't cause permanent damage but that was because I was able to wash it off. Vandalism is just stupid. Don't do it. I will admit I've done the occasional TP but I don't think tahts nearly as bad as mailbox smashing..

I don't mean to rip into Lawless here, but I have talked to him before. I think the fact that this thread is titled 'mailbox smashers beware' as opposed to something more along the lines of 'Well, I screwed up again' shows that yes, at least at the time of posting, he didn't think what he did was wrong. Illegal, yes, he certainly knows that, but wrong.. I don't see evidence for it.
Not meaning to rag on you, Lawless. I know you've been through some tough stuff that wasn't your fault. But this.. no excuse, man. No excuse at all.
I just hope whatever punishment you get is fair, and that you don't do this kind of crap again. Didn't you have enough to deal with?

I see your point, and it's pretty bullet-proof. I agree. All I'm saying is, are people's lives really that sour that they feel the need to piling it on someone who is admitting what they did?
I'm all for opposing viewpoints, I just saw it as piling it on someone who is already in some deep *ish*.
I know I wouldn't like it if it was done to me, but the fact is it wasn't done to me, so I don't feel the need to gripe about it.
I just take life easy, and complain and/or spread negativity when I feel it's warranted.

I have done things about it. I have called the cops a great number of times. Also the city has installed a streetlight directly in front of my house. Yet it still continues because the crime isnt a high priority. Going after the daily murders that happen in my city seem to be higher on their list then my vandalism calls.
As for taking the law into my own hands, I wouldnt suggest doing that in my neighborhood. If the police ever made an arrest I would show to court. Also reports have been filed but without a criminal behind bars it doesnt stop.
