Since when, does what kind of shoe you have have anything to do with showing respect for The President(only capitalized, because I have nightmares of that fat lady screaming to me it's a proper noun if I don't...) anyways, heres the story, what do you think? In my opininion, it doesn't matter if you don't wear shoes when seeing The President, or anyone for that matter.

Uh...you are supposed to be a little respectful towards your nations leader...

I know if I was going to the white house, I'd be wearing at least a shirt, tie, and dress shoes.

Dude, I am pissed at the news agencies.

You're supposed to call him Mister President, or even just President Bush, not "So, Bush" when asking him a question like he's your buddy.

He was elected fairly, give him his due respect, I neevr saw anyone go "SO, Bill" It was always "President Clinton"

And I understand that, sort of, but since when is what kind of foot-accesory you wear respectful or disrespectful? I mean you don't tell a guest in your home to go home because they have on Air Jordan's, and not Shaq's, I mean it's ridiculous, The President is becoming Oprah...

Exactly! I mean, do you know what set apart Osama and Saddam(sp? nm I think that's right..) People began to have so much respect, that they began to believe they were Allah's missionaries, sent to destroy the other religions and such, or so is my understanding, and if that's not true/ you don't believ it, then what about all of those cult leaders?

And yes, I do wear flip flops to a nice restaurant, it's who I am.

I wonder how many of you who have a problem with women wearing flip-flops to the white house would have the same problem with kids/teens/women wearing them to your church.

Who should we dress up for more, the most holy God, or the President of a single country?

Womens flip-flops, as well as mens sandals, are starting to become accepted as part of "Business attire" in some places in the country. If they are accepted in the area of the wearer, why have a problem with it?

And on that note, here is another thought. Cowboy boots wouldn't be considered "dressy" in some places in this country. How many times has the President been seen in them, shaking some dignitary's hand.

now thats a very broad question, my uncles wedding was formal so i wore a bow tie(i was like 8) but at my other uncles second wedding it was on the beach and every one was just wearing whatever including flip flops. after all, pam anderson got married in a white bikini.

For the sake of this thread lets pretend I own an oceanfront hotel and need to hire a new manager.

Person A is highly qualified and is dressed in a suit and tie with dress shoes

Person B is just as qualified but is in casual clothing and flip-flops.

Person A gets the job hands down.

It's is pathetic to see how so many of you can't show respect, your to full of yourselves to show respect to other people. President Bush runs our country, he is very important, you respect him. Get over yourselves, there are people that are in a sense more important than you.

I'm curious why people bring up the boss analogy - yes, if my boss tells me to dress a certain way, then I dress that way.  Yes, if I am applying to a job I will dress nice.

But if I don't dress up for the President...  what?  He'll throw me in jail?  I don't work for him, I don't want anything from him except a picture.  The analogies don't apply.

Now, common courtesy says you dress decently whenver you visit anybody's house, but that has nothing to do with the President.

And USAF - we elected him to be our chief executive.  We are the shareholders, he is the CEO.  He works for us.  The CEO answers to the shareholders, not the other way around.

your respect, don't say our because more people respect him than don't. And, you might not like your superiors, but you still respect them. You kids need help. Yeah he works for us, in a sense, but he is also our leader, shareholders respect the CEO because the CEO still has power over them in a sense.

He hasn't earned my respect either. I respect those that respect me, and I don't see much repect from him in the inner city. I would not yell at him or call him names, and I would dress up at the White House because I would feel underdressed compared to everyone else. However, to be an ass kisser just because he was rich, white, and came from a poweful family doesn't mean he earns my respect.

I don't think Bush was complaining, I think it was the woman who wrote the article. If I read correctly (I just took a quick glance at the article) Bush didn't say anything about the flipflops so stop yelling at him. Bush never acts like a rich white snob, that's Hilary's job.

Have you visited a ghetto lately? Rich white snob like fractus stated is not how I was describing him. I was stating that because of who he is doesn't mean he deserves respect. The unemployment rate around here is ridiculous, with little federal funding being offered for programs. Him acting like a rich white snob doesn't mean he's litterally putting his nose up in the air and wearing his collar popped up. However it's relevant with his half assed attempt at ending poverty in Africa, and no attempt within America.

I'm not necessarily saying that he has - although I could probably find some examples if I looked.

I am simply noting the absurdity of a blanket claim that Bush "never" acts in such a fashion.  Such absolutist claims are fairly idiotic.

Dazed raised a good point. Flip-flops in Cali arent concidered rude to wear. In fact they are high fashion at the moment....

I would be slightly putt of if Bush wore cowboy boots to my house. [but that is because I hate Texas at the moment, not Bush] I respect the guy because he is a fellow human but not much more. I even voted for him both times.

I am willing to bet my Rainbow sandals/flip-flops/thongs cost more than Bush's Cowboy boots.

I would rather wear a pair of black thongs/sandals/flip-flops with manicured feet to a black tie affair than cowboy boots.... At my best friends wedding a month ago, the groomsmen all wore sandals/flipflops/thongs. What is the difference between thongs/sandals/flipflops and an open toed heels barely held together with thin straps of leather?

If Bush were to invite Ghandi to the White House would his attire be critized?
