I really need help i need a new barrel for my 98 custom.  I need more accuracy and consistency. If you have a suggestion try to give an example of how accurate if possible.

~thanks for the help~

The stock Tippmann barrel is an anodized 0.691" bore . and there's a couple things you can do to improve its performance . In preperation for these things , thoroughly clean and dry your barrel off of the marker , and then ,,

1. holding the barrel up to a bright light , look down the bore for any haze or dull areas , if you dont see mirror-like finish inside , take a small piece of green scotchbrite , and pull it through the barrel until the haze is gone , (It took me about 20 passes to accomplish this) , wash and dry the barrel and inspect again , repeat until bore is polished and all traces of haze (called Smut by metal finishers) are removed .

2. Check paint to bore match , the stock barrel is a large bore barrel , and small paint will tend not to be as accurate as a paint with a good fit . (do a search on paint to bore match , some lenthy and informative posts have already been done )

3. I have heard (and used) bore treatments , such as mothers Mag and aluminum polish , silicone , and car polish work to improve the barrel friction properties . I use an industrial silicone product made by LPS on a swab , it works .

these are a few ways you can improve barrel performance for just a couple bucks .

I have no personal experience with the Lapco bigshot , or some of the other barrels recomended , but they seem popular , and I've not heard any complaints about them either , including the J&J barrels . I shoot a JT 0.688" stainless back with interchangeable tips , and its a good barrel , but not popular because of its cost/performance ratio , there's cheaper barrels out there that shoot just as well such as those already mentioned .

Welcome to the forum Lt. wolfwood , and the sport , a bit late for the welcome , but I dont hang out here much anymore .

Bigshot or J&J are good choices, or All-American with a freak back is great.
