Ok I might be getting the palmers stabilizer and I
have 3 questions.   1. How much is it?    2. Does it
screw directly into the ASA or does it go through the
fore-grip and if none of those where?   3. Should I get
the Male or Female or any other (I forgot what they
were) by the way I have a 98 custom

i think the direct one ( the one you forgot) goes in to the asa and i think the female one or male one goes into the grip but im not sure about any of this. this is just my fuzzy memory trying to help.

http://www.countypaintball.com/product_description.asp?item=2492 - female for $70

http://www.countypaintball.com/product_description.asp?item=2469 - male for $88

The male takes the place of your foregrip and the female goes on the ASA. Most people like the male a lot better but they both do the same thing.

Here is a male on a 98c:

I didn't say this, shub did. He did a good explanation saw I thought I would post it. This is for both x-chambers and stabilizers. Remember, a stabilizer is the same thing as a regulator.

CO2 is stored in your tank as a compressed liquid (like propane). Your paintball gun is designed to work on CO2 in it's gaseous state (in other words, after the liquid has evaporated). When you shoot fast, or if you tip gun so that the tank is pointing straight into the gun, liquid CO2 is entering the gun, which will cause velocity spikes, decrease your gun's efficiency by wasting excessive amounts of CO2, and can damage the valve on hi end paintball guns, like Automags. (If you shoot a Tippmann, liquid entering the gun won't hurt).

An expansion chamber is a simple tube located between the gun's valve and the CO2 bottle, which contains baffles that the CO2 passes through, giving it more time to heat up, therefore evaporating into gas. Keeping liquid out of the gun will keep your gun more consistent (by reducing velocity spikes), and will somewhat increase your shots per tank.

A regulator is a device that actually limits the quantity of gas that enters the gun at any point in time, commonly via springs and a piston. This is more efficient because you can adjust the pressure output of the regulator to the point where it allows JUST enough CO2 to shoot and cycle your marker, without any excess. Metering the CO2 usage will increase your shots per tank, as well as keeping consistency in shot velocity.

Which is better? Well, they both will help your shot consistency and shot per tank numbers. A reg will do this better than an ex. chamber, but will cost a good bit more.

Shub did a good job of explaining it and I was too lazy to type my own explanation. At least I didn't take the credit for it and say I wrote it myself.

Do you have to buy a vertical adapter for the male version?

Is it the same for the A5?

Yes, you have to buy a vertical adapter and all palmers are the same, they don't only fit to certain guns or anything like that.

This is not the "female" Palmer. It is the "direct"  which is "directly" screwed into the valve. (My son's marker)

The male Palmer screws directly into the fitting on the bottom of the receiver on the A-5. The vertical adapter is needed only for the 98 C.

This one guy we were playing with got kicked out of a tourney because he was shooting hot accidentally. It was kinda his fault because when he hid behind a bunker he kept his gun's barrel pointing down. The ref thought he did it on purpose but the guy just didn't know that caused spikes. Anyway he shot me with a hot one at 300fps or greater and we lost the match except after the game i showed the ref my welt and we won by default because that welt was like the size of an apple right on my pec.

Yea, the Palmer does a great job of keeping liquid CO2 out of the gun, therefore, causing it not to spike to such a high pressure.  Someone needs to get a sticky permission and type on article on that thing so that we wouldnt have to give out so much advice on it...  I nominate Bruce A. Frank, the all-knowing guru of the forum.

First I am going to have to find and read those articles out there about how liquid CO2 actualy works best in some markers.
