It is truly phenomenal that you can't see the idiocy of the joke. To blatantly generalize a population, consisting of minorities, as having to materialize in a certain way, then to reccant and claim "oh white people do it too" is hilarious. It's jokes like that and the inability to open ones eyes and have sense of what a ghetto really is that keeps racism around.

Wrong, it's people who assume everything is race oriented that keep racism around. The fact that you can only see the race in it is what makes you the true racist. The only way you could see the race in something is by stereotyping it. There has been no reccant, only explainations which you seem to understand about as much as you do the initial joke.

What one person calls race, another will call ethnicity, depending on your training in sociology.

Also a good point. However, in most cases you can use those terms to replace each other, even though they do not technically equal each other. As there is no real word for being discriminatory against an ethinicity (there is but it doesn't seem to fit), calling the joke racist still gets the point across.

Don't try to back out now that you got caught stereotyping. If I am a true racist than I would have made the joke, or laughed at it because I would have been associating the stereotyping with humor, which is what you did. Seeing it for what it really was, inappropriate, proves that I am above that immature racist crap.

actually no most people in the ghetto dont wear timberlands. It was said earlier that for it to be a ghetto it has to be made up of poor people. Yes, but the difficulty is telling which is which.

It seems to me both sides are making way to much out of this and also a number of people who ought to know better seem to think "racism" is a synonym for "stereotyping".
