Alright my friend doesnt know what barrel he should get.  He wants a progressive or a teardrop, but he doesnt know what the difference is, he says they look the same and the only difference is $20.  Can you tell him what the difference is?

The porting.   progressive just has holes, where the TearDrop will have Smart Parts Patend port holes which will add a smidge of accuracy.

If I was your friend, go with the progressive. it's under $30, and it just as accurate as the TearDrop.

^^Exactly. Tell your friend to pick which one he thinks looks the best.

Having a 14"teardrop for my 98, it's a decent barrel. However, if you break a ball, might as well call yourself out. It's not a self-cleaning barrel, and accuracy goes to hell very fast. As soon as a ball breaks, call yourself out (really, it's not worth your time playing after that), and spend the next 5 minutes cleaning out your barrel.

Now of course, the plus side is I've never broken a ball in the barrel yet (misfires with the bolt and feeding problems have been the only reasons I've broken balls). I've shot a lot of paint (white box.....which is cheap paint) through it, and never had a problem with the actual barrel itself ever breaking a ball.

But for the increased price, I don't really think it's worth it. Go with the progressive.

The porting actually will help the accuracy but not 20$ better accuracy.  Go with the cheaper one.

you can get a teardrop for 3 bucks more and i have had both. The first was a progressive and it did good for desert woodsball but i had to give it up when it got bent at the front from being dropped 5 feet onto rocks. So since it was such a good barrel i looked up what else smart parts made for tippmanns and i found the teardrop and since it was newer and only 3 dollars more i bought it. I find it has a much more reliable accuracy in that with lower size bore paint it doesnt curve quite as much. It also is far quiter than the progressive cause of the dish cuts. But if u use large and medium bore size it doesnt make much of a difference in accuracy.
