Thanks a million for your help in my last topic. This one is a
little different, and I'm really needing help with it. I've
checked and read all over for certain things that supposedly remove the
ping that comes from the CO2 tank due to how the internals are working,
and nothing has worked. I figured you folks here would have a
pretty good idea what a person could do to get it taken care of.
On my gun the ping noise is just loud as can be unfortunately. My
gun is quiet, super quiet, but the ping sounds like a rocket going off
by my ear. I've never heard another 98C with this problem.
I thought it may be my tank, but it's not, as I have tried other tanks
with the same problem arising each time. Again, any help would be
absolutely fantastic. Oh, some specs on my gun:
98C with polished internals, J&J 14" barrel, rocket cock II and some other aesthetic stuff.

Put some shrink wrap on your sear spring. Thats hould help some.

Shrink wrap, as in plastic shrink wrap? Or shrink tubing?

I'll give it a try. I tend to believe that the noise is coming
from the valve or something related to it's function. Maybe I'll
take the tank off the gun and fire it a few times while hooked up, just
without the asa screwed into the gun itself to test out my theory.

I wonder if putting some more Orings as an extra buffer for the bolt would do anything.
Or what about some rubber grommets on the asa bolts to give some extra vibration dampening?
Just throwing some stuff out there.

I tried the o-rings on the asa bolts trick. Unfortunately it
didn't work. I think it made it louder to be honest. I put
them between the asa and the grip. I heard someone say to try
putting them under the heads of the bolts so that they were just
hitting the asa.

Oh, and I placed a silicone 'foot' that you would use under your
computer monitor, or under furniture to keep it from scratching, on the
front of the rear bolt to deaden the impact sound from hitting the
valve, so that might be construed as more o-rings.
Has anyone else had this problem? It seems kind of strange.
I should mention that I have done these things in order to try and get rid of the ping, so none of them are what is causing it.

It's the sear spring, you CAN replace it with orthodontic rubber bands
(really small rubber bands) that is supposed to make your trigger pull
lighter too, but I wouldn't reccomend it, because it tends to uncock if
you don't use strong enough rubber bands.
But I just wouldn't bother silencing it in the first place, it's not like anyone would be able to hear it, except you.

Actually, unfortunately it's loud enough to be heard from a ways away.
:( But I will try putting the heat shrink tubing over it tomorrow and
see how it goes. Thanks! It's just frustrating that it is
so loud.

it's the spring, the heat shrink will help alot. another thing that helps is to put on a rocket cock it covers the cocking hole and muffles the noise the spring makes. when i did the front cocking mod and welded the hole shut i was suprised how much quieter the "ping" was.

its not the spring making the noise its the co2 tank... i had the same problem but fixed it...

I have a rocket cock II on my marker. I'll get some
of the tubing tonight and try it out. It is the sear spring
you're suppose to put it on correct? Thanks again for all of your
help everyone, it's much much appreciated.
As for HPA, ;) wife would kill me for spending that much money on my marker, although I wouldn't mind it.

I have a stupid question. I got the heat shrink, but how do you put it
on? Just a small piece over the unextended spring, or extend the
spring to about the size it will be as it sits in the marker, and then
put a piece of heat shrink over that the spring when it is extended?
Thanks!

A small piece when it is unextended, about 1/2 an inch should do.

Another stupid question (thank you for bearing with me), but the spring
itself is only about half and inch long. So, because I am
horrible about picturing things in my mind, do I cut it down to the
size of the actual unextended spring, and then heat it onto the
spring?
Edit: Ok, I believe that
I answered my own question not long after I asked it. I took my
receivers apart and was just messing around with the different
internals, putting them threw the same motions that they would go
through during actual firing. I found that when the sear went
back into place as the bolt was cocked, it made a 'click' noise as it
was held in place by the rear bolt 'catch', for lack of a better
word. This click noise was accompanied by a 'ping' in the sear
spring, as has been mentioned before as the problem for the ping noise
during firing.
I decided to try different ways of applying the heat shrink
tubing. I first just put it on the spring with the spring
compressed and in an idle state, with just enough tubing to cover the
spring, and heated it on. I then repeated the test of
manually moving the bolt back and listened for the pinging noise from
the spring. It was still there, although I noticed that if I
placed the slightest pressure on the spring with my fingertip, it went
away. So I removed the tubing, and measured it out to go on while
the spring was in position in the marker, which meant a larger piece of
tubing to cover the extended spring.
From there I placed the spring with tubing in place, and carefully
turning my marker over, I heated the tubing to shrink it. Then I
repeated the manual firing test, and there was no ping noise to be
heard when I cocked the bolt. So in effect, any noise from the
sear spring, is now gone and dampened down to minimal (I couldn't hear
it at all). I haven't been able to test the marker out gassed up
as it's midnight, but as soon as I do, I will leave a report here of
how it sounded in the morning. I am leaving all of this info in
case someone else wants to figure out how to do it, and can find it by
searching.
Thanks again for your help folks, it's much appreciated.

After testing this through paintballing all day, I am very happy with
the results. I found that keeping my fps down to 275, or even a
little lower was optimal. However, it did still make a little
noise. But it is a tippmann, and as they like to make noise, I
couldn't complain. Over all I am satisfied with the results I
got. Hope this helps someone.

It IS the spring. But a co2 tank will reverberate more, and make the ping louder.

I don't think you are supposed to heat it on.....it just rests on the spring.

I still think some grommets on the asa bolts or a rubber gasket between
the asa and grip, will take alot more ping out of the marker.

I thought someone tryed that with the ASA and said it didn't work.....I might be wrong though.

I tried that with the asa and it didn't do any good for me. As
for not heating up the tubing, I tried it both ways, and the noise is
drastically reduced if you DO heat it up. :)

Running a stock and remote will decrease the noise the most. Try it
