anyone know of some modifications to lessen the noise from the gun (98 custom)? I dont mean things you buy from a paintball store, just like easy mods.

thanks

Put some shrink warp on your sear spring to get rid of the ping every shot. Why would you want your gun to be quiet anyways? No matter how quiet your gun is, when you shoot, someone is going to hear you. You might as well make it as loud as you possibly can to scare people.

Get a ported barrel or drill yours with a tiny drill head.

The facts are that a correctly built silencer can make your marker dead quiet. Also, such devises, whether built for paintball markers or firearms, are illegal. And yes, to make a point, an officer from the BATF may arrest you if you have one installed. Even a plastic and foam unit intended for a paintball marker will silence a firearm for the first shot as it blows apart.

Barrel porting is the ONLY legal way to reduce the noise from a marker.

If you wanted quiet, you shouldn't have bought a Tippmann.

Don't know about that. 98C with the E-Bolt, Palmer, LPK, HPA I am getting pretty close to one of the really quiet markers on the field.

And what "really quiet electro" do you speak of?

Ions are relatively quite.

Also, I know you didn't want anything, but if you added a rocket cock to your gun, that would make it a little quiter. In terms of free, about the only thing you can do is put some heat shrink tubing around your sear spring (or shrink wrap like one guy posted)

thanks, ill try the sear trick, and i wanted to buy a rocket cock, but wouldent hit your face if you were looking throught the sights?

No, the rocket cock makes it so there are no more external moving parts on your gun. Everything moving is internal. The cocking nob doesn't move.

it is really easy to make a silencer for your paintball gun, but you will look like a fo0l with it on, and it makes your barrel a LOT longer, unless you start walking up and down populated streets with a paintball gun with a silencer on it i doubt u would ever get a ticket for it, and they do work EXTREMELY well if you make it right, if you want a REALLY quiet marker then buy an ebolt and fill the cocking slot(you need to relocate the battery then, with the cocking slot filler it makes it even a little quieter) and then buy a VERY quiet barrel, and make a silencer for it, you will have the most quiet paintball gun out there, also the only reason silencers are illegal for piantball guns is because any silencer made for a paintball gun could theareticaly be put on a real gun and real gun silencers are entirely illegal without a permit, and unless your willing to spend a LOT of money for a permit then it will not be worth it

yes...If you are caught, you will be charged with Felony Weapons charges under the Federal Penal System. The police officer is obligated under the law to report the silencer to the ATF after it is confiscated and you are charged. Silencers are only illegal if you don't have the ATF approval note...and the $200 receipt for that note. To obtain the note, you must supply the ATF with a detailed schematic and parts list of the silencer and submit it for their approval. If approved, you must pay the $200 sur-charge.

The reason they are illegal is because any silencer made for a paintball marker can be modified to be used on a firearm...doesn't have to be a Magnum...can be a .17, .22 or .25 caliber...and that's what the ATF uses as their justification for the law.

Since I work in a prison and I am an avid firearm buff, please take my word for it and don't make one. Get a barrel with the most porting...like a Whisper or Quiet Riot and wrap a towell around the porting. That should be sufficient.

the expansion chamber seems the way to go....will that work on my 98 custom? and will it just be in line with the way the air is hooked up now? so it will screw into the gun where the line goes in now, and the line from the tank will just screw into the bottom of it?

The DOP X-Core is the best expansion chamber you can buy, they are cheap too. You would also need to buy a vertical adapter and a few 90* fittings.

http://www.countypaintball.com/product_description.asp?item=1033 - vertical adapter

The expansion chamber takes the place of your foregrip. Here is a pic of an expansion chamber on a 98c:

The whole kit is $40. It comes with everything you need.

The complete kit includes the vertical adapter, expansion chamber, gasline, gasline fittings, Loctite thread sealant, and complete installation instructions.

All you need to do is buy it and install it.

well i took on the challenge of polishing my internals today... i took everyhting apart and polished the 2 halves with 000 steel wool and motor oil.... i then washed everything and lubed it all up with 3-in-one oil and put it all backtogether.... it is now much, much quieter. i can shoot much faster... and it dosent jam or anything and there were some sharp edges where the paintball enter the gun and i smoother them out..... its great...

Just make sure to turn down your velocity a little bit. After you get you internals polished, the velociy shoots up.
