i've made a wood stock before, i traced my old stock when i broke it. you you are going to make a solid stock then you are going to need material thats like a 2x6 about 12-16 inches to work with. i wouldn't suggest a 2x6 because thay are made of pine and pine is a soft wood. it dents and scratches very easily. you can go get get 2 1x6 oak at 12-16 inches again and either glue and or screw them together. then plug the holes with wood filler or wood plugs if you can find/make them. sand it well, then you are ready for to trace. i don't think you can find a outline anywhere, so mabye you can do to your local store and they will let you trace one or look at it better. take you time, practice it a few times on paper or cardboard. if you get one you like, you can always cut it out, then you have a pattern. once you get your pattern on the material, now you can cut it out. i will only suggest using a scroll saw or a band saw to do this. do not use any hand power says like a circular saw, jig sawm recipricating saw ect. these are too dangeruos to use when working with a small piece of material like that and doing precise cuts. you'll lop your finger off. a fixed saw on a table is much safer and easier and will do a more quality job abyways. you will need a thin flexable blade to do tight turns, larger blades will snap. once its mostly cut out, then you need to sand a ton. you can use a wood file to remove area's that the saw couldn't get. i made a SAW stock and on the top, it "pintches" together near the back of it. i wound't cut this with the saw, so the file removed the material and then i sanded it smooth. good luck! ------------- www.pbteamwow.com |

| If you really want a stock, I'd Just get a Car stock, and a raised sight rail. Definately try a few different stocks out first to see if you like how they feel. Personally, I hate them. They just aren't as comfortable as one might think, and you wont want to put in too much time making something your not going to like. |

For the stock I made I drew the outline I wanted to use on a piece of 2x6. Then, since I dont have very many tools, I used a hand saw to cut out the outline, and a drill press to cut the inside outline and the inletting. Then, I used a hand saw and a drill press to cut out the part that would attach to the grip, and a dremel tool to carve the grip area where my fingers would be. To shape the stock, I used a razor plane and 80 grit sand paper, and once the shape was achieved, I used 250 grit sand paper for a final sanding. For the finish, I used minwax stain to give it a darker look, and then when the stain was dry I used 8 coats of hand rubbed tung oil, using steel wool between coats, making shure there wasn’t any steel wool on the finish before the next coat. When I made the stock I fit it to me so it is comfortable, as well as made it low enough to easily see down the top of my gun with a mask on and without a sight rail which is very helpful. Also, I have not had any problem with using a normal 2x6, although I don’t know what kind of wood it was. It has been hit against trees and rocks by accident, and there are no dents so far. I also think the finish makes it much tougher. yea it looks pretty cool id get a wood foregrip on that thing, and not like a handle, like put it under the barrel, and you rest it on your hand, like on a real rifle. man that thing would look sweet with an SVD kit if you can do a stock like that, you can definitely do an SVD kit -------------

the only thing i would be conserned about is the weight - but i am all ultra lite and stuff like that so i would never do it but if you don't mind the weight it sounds like a great idea ------------- save grasshoppers - boycot peanut butter. |

For $15 you can buy a good wood M-14 stock, then modify it. You could spend a lot of money on a stock, if you wanted to make a real showpiece. I still wouldn't cut a collectible one, but some woods look better then others and are common stocks.
