Date Posted: 21 August 2005 at 1:26am
All my friends paintball so i thought about getting into it. Now
the only paintball gun i ever owned was a hceap $20 pump one. I heard
from people on the internet that tippmann 98 was a good starter.
Now what is the major diff between a regular 98 and a 98c?
I live in mid coast Maine where there is alot of woods with thick to
medium brush and open fields (most have slight slopes in them)
boardering each other. Thought i give you and idea of my landscape I
play in might be helpfull.
also it would be nice if you would give me some starting tips.

the 98c is a lot easier to upgrade than the m98. Tippmann has a new marker out, the 98 custom pro. It's pretty good. I'd reccomend that you look into it.

what do you mean by easier? Can I still get a longer barrle for a regular 98?

yes you can.
Its easyer to upgrade meaning you dont have to cut into the marker to get upgrades to fit in.
Have fun.

It's easier to find upgrades on websites. To upgrade you don't have to send it in to get stuff put on and you don't have to cut on it as much.
Yes you can get different barrels for the m98. I wouldn't go over 12 or 14in, though. You could look into the flatline barrel, although I'm not entirely sure if it will fit on the m98.
I reccommend the 98 custom pro or the 98 custom. I own a 98 custom.

and just so you know, the way to tell them apart is that the m98 has "gills" on the sides of the marker. the 98c doesn't. you won't find too many m98's around anymore. the only places i've seen them lately is in the starter packs you can get at meijer's, walmart, etc.

I found a good deal on a 98c. about how far sould i shoot a
paintball with a 16 inch barrel. And would putting a 21
inch on it be a smart idea?

nope don't go any longer than 14 inches, after about 8 inches you're just wasting air. i would suggest a 12-14 inch J&J ceramic you can pick them up for arround $40. you won't regret it, it's a great barrel for the $$. as far as tips wear camo, be stealthy when you have to, be aggressive when it's time (when your opponent is reloading HA HA) and most of all have fun and be safe! welcome to the forums

Don't go over 14" for the barrel. It will NOT increase the distance of the shot; it will just waste air.

how much did u get it for, i got my 98c from ebay with a 14"
progressive and java diamond gripos for 140 cnd. good choice. play with
it first and they decide what you want for the gun. the 98c is a good
starter gun but u can turn it into a good gun for an experienced
player. id suggest a barrel, if it doesnt already come with one, an x
chamber (expansion chamber)(gives the co2 more time to "expand" and
saves co2 and gives u better accuracy. the smart parts progressive is a
great barrel for the 98c. or the lapco big shot. j&j is a good make
2. and last. promise ill shut up. my cousin is gonna buy a custom made
21 inch barrel for his spyder xtra.lol BAD IDEA. 1. it will get in the
way 2. the co2 only needs 8 inches of the barrel to puch the ball out
at its peak speed. and more than that the ball starts to sow down. but
12-14 is good because i does give better accuracy. and 3. it wont go
any where. ok good luck have fun be safe

awesome. i dont play much woodsball, but thinking practically, you would get your barrel snagged on alot of stuff while playing in medium to heavy brush, so i would even suggest as low as 8 to ten inches to pevent snagging.
many people say a lapco bigshot is a very nice barrel, accurate too. you can buy an 8 inch one for the 98s. they say that the 8 inch bigshot is just as accurat as the 12-14 inch barrels too
i also suggest a Custom Products barrel. they are available as low as 10 inches and available in any color of your choosing. these are very accurate, and not that loud, as opposed to the bigshot. i have owned one before and i liked it

i got it for $81 USD. Its refurbished im a little skeptical even
tho it said it should only have some minor scrtahches. I saw a pic of
it and it looks like everything is alright.but if it doesn't work oh
well. My parents are paying for it

98 Vs 98custom
They are identical except for the following.
The Custom has a removeable trigger guard.
The Custom shells are molded so that the RT (Reactive Trigger) drops right in without modification
The Trigger on the Custom has a push spring on the front, instead of the pull type return spring. This trigger mod allows the E-Bolt to drop in without modification.
Unless you plan on getting an RT, E-Bolt or double trigger, it's a toss-up.
If you have any inkling of upgrading, better get the Custom.
I bought a 98, just to mill the gills. Someone had cut the trigger guard off, so I had to modify it for a trigger guard.

It being made by tippmann doesnt garantee it to be in good condition,
Tippmanns are rugged, but you still have to care for them, and if yours
doesnt work, it shouldnt be too hard or costly to get back into working
order. enjoy your new gun

the 98c is a great gun for strarters and can easily be upgraded to more of a high end gun. Thats what they are famous for, being made for all around play while being very rugged. The 98c is, just as everyone has said, much more upgradable made for drop in parts so you dont have to mill......
I hope you like your 98c, i never had one but i have used them many a time.

EDIT: This is probably a dumb question but i just got the paintball gun (and my first time holding one) in
the mail. Before i hook up the co2. do i have to put the o
-ring in the air supply adapter? I say this becuase
when i put the ring in their it blocked up the little hole a little bit.

No, you don't put the o-ring on the ASA, you put it one the co2 tank. Remember to oil it before you screw it in. If you don't, your o-rings get torn.

that must be a hassle to do every time you want to put in a full c02 tank. expecially ina fire fire fight.

You just keep the oring on the tank all the time. Once you put it one, you can screw it in and play as many times as you want until the oring breaks.

No they don't make an e-grip for the 98c, they do for the A-5 though. The only firepower upgrades for the 98c is the r/t and e-bolt.

Then get arrested I hope. If you shoot anyone without safety or on a
regulated field, I hope you fall in a hole so I can poop on you.
In other words, dont shoot at people unless they are playing.
