Wait, wait. Those aren't mine. I was saying I aspire to be like them. I see them as successful people. What is wrong with wanting to be successful? And what is wrong with liking things as long as you have an appreciation for them and work for them?
I assure you, having money is a lot better than not having money. Yes, it isn't the most important thing in the world but what is wrong wtih wanting to do something different than the average person?
Again, those aren't mine. Those are all different houses and I snapped photos of them while on a boat today. -------------

You have just lowered yourself in my eyes again. Posessions do not mean sucssess. You could be a very wealthy man and still be a failure. If possessions are the only thing driving you in life, you will be very sad in the end.
Edit: Nothing wrong with it. Nothing wrong with it at all. But money doesnt mean you have a happy life. There are just as many pains that come with wealth as come with being poor or even average. They are just different pains. You still come off as a materialistic and very shallow person. Many people see wealth as A sign of success. Not the only kind of success. And I said possessions aren't the only important things. They are nice and they give many people dreams and drive them to work harder. No harm in that. Better than not wanting something and doing a piss-poor job because you have nothing driving you. EDIT: I know money doesn't make you happy but it does help. If you don't have to worry about putting food on the table, it certaintly makes life easier. I like things, yes, but so does everybody. And last, I say there are many more problems with being poor than rich. Examples: Poor person problems Will I have be able to pay off my (house, car, etc)? Can I put food on the table? Can I pay for my kids to go to college? Rich person problems Where can we go for vacation? I don't want to be super rich but I want a good life, a good family, and not have to worry about certain things. -------------

Once you have attained what you want, your life will seem meaningless and you will be misserable. Stop being concerned with your social standing and class. I don't care that much about possessions. Here's my example on that. A
poor person gets to drive a Ferrari and a 1972 Gremlin in the middle of
a desert but nobody will ever know. 20 bucks says he likes the Ferrari
more. Even if nobody saw him or got to think he was of a higher social
class, he still enjoyed it. I can't really explain it, but I think that made sense.
That's not what I saide. I said I see them as successul people but that doesn't mean they are the only successful people. A single mother with 11 children awho manages to put them all through college, I'd consider that successful. I just see money as a way to judge some peoples success. -------------

Right now a friend of mine is driving an Aston Martin Db9. She perfers her mothers beat up honda.

I'm not really sure what you said, but my point was that nobody would know if he was rich or poor, but he would still enjory the Ferrari more. He didn't enjoy it because it was a status symbol.
I honestly don't know a soul who would enjoy a Hond more than an Aston Martin besides the fact she may not like the attention. All the poor people I've met have been miserable and all the rich ones have been happy. -------------

You think money judges succssess? Not so my confused forumer, not so. I know people that inherited money, they didnt do anything to really deserve it, little more than an accidental birth. What you are persuing are symbols of status.. If you want success, use your money to cultivate yourself, travel, give to charrity and raise a family. Help those less fortunate than you, and sacrifice your time and energy whenever possible. Then, and only then will you be successful.
I have met many a wealthy person, whos marriage is in peices and have told me. "Kid, i would trade all my earthly possesions for a wife that loved me"- Annonymous I was little when i was told that, never knew what it meant till later. But now i understand it. Now that's your judging of successul. I realize that some people did inherit but did nothing to earn it. But many worked had. I'm not after a status symbol. I'm after something that will be more fun than a beat up Honda. I've been to Africa and I've helped the poor. I even wanted to move there for a while and just give up on school and live there. I would like to make a good living and raise a good family here and then eventually help others.

Money wont necessarily make you happy, but it would be nice to at least experience it yourself. Edit: everybody should find what makes them happiest. for some that means a wife of 40 years and 12 kids, for others it means a yacht in the carribean. -------------

Cmon guys, lay off him a little. He was just showing the nice houses he
saw, and how he was showing that he wants to be rich. I agree with him.
Bieng rich makes life easier. Theres less to worry about. Its not like
money is all that matters, but it IS nice to have plenty of it. For
myself, I want to have a wife and 2 kids, and plenty of money. You know
why I want plenty of money? So I can afford to put food on the table,
give my kids what they want, pay for their college. Then I can pay for
the things Ive always wanted. Dont even try to play like your all high
and mighty and dont want things. EVERYONE wants SOMETHING. Theres no
debating that. Dont tell me it wouldnt be nice to have enough money to
not need to worry about bills, worry about food, or to have to go to
work again. I know that would be nice for some of you, some people here
have really crappy jobs. So just lay off the guy. A few of you deserve strikes for all this flaming your doing. |
