I was looking in my ISP's privacy policy and basically found out that they keep records off all the sites you visit, how long you visit them, and it keeps records of all your communications for 15 years after you unsubscribe.  I'm sure your ISPs do the same.  So do proxy servers get around this?  Also, what are your thoughts on this?

Its called the patriot act.

Or rather its called the ISPs avoiding trouble down the road by capitulating to things they dont even need to do, on the off chance that a subscriber might be a terrorist.

Theres more of that than you realize. if you really want to get your blood boiling, take a look around http://www.eff.org/ - http://www.eff.org/ or http://www.againsttcpa.com - http://www.againsttcpa.com

Well at least in 15 years after I have looked at my one hundred millionth hour of hardcore pornography without harming or killing a women, I will be proof that the stuff isnt harmful like all the morons say it is. It is nice to know that someone is keeping tabs on that for me.

If your worried, buy a wireless network card and steal your neighbor's connection.

Isn't it time to go door-to-door and alert all the neighbors of your presence?

Err...did I say that out loud?

If you dont want your ISP to look at your records use a proxy....

The ISP can only see that you visited the proxy site, past that they see nothing. We use them at school all the time.

The old one I used to use:

128.31.1.13 port 3128

The brits will learn soon enough that its impossible to censor the internet.

The US tried it too and it failed utterly: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Communications_Decency_Act - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Communications_Decency_Act
