some dumb a on pbreviews forums says there is no such thing as a sniper in pb since guns shoot the same distance, and when i told him that a sniper is someone that shoots from a concealed position he said every player in woodsball does that. wtf? ------------- a5 domination |

Paintball snipers DO exist! I snipe people in paintball all the time!

If you dont like threads discussing Snipers, ignore them and dont post in them so they arent bumped.
While I agree that pointless posts about paintball snipers get annoying and are mostly to get attention of the poster, the subsequent posts that follow them are usually even lamer.... GG forumers. ------------- |

I was given a strike for spam before I hit 500 posts (that was before I lost 2800 posts because a mod got mad). I got that title and 2800 posts knocked because of a few posts that were only partially relavent to the topic at hand. I don't know who did it but many more people do worse. Also to add: I still think you should use this rule, even if that means unjustly giving me 2 strikes. |

| personally, i dont think you could call yourself a sniper per say, but it is possible to shoot somebody without them seeing you and stuff. The whole point of sniping is to be the lone wolf that can hold up a whole unit so an assault force can come clean up. Now in paintball youre not really accurate after 100 feet at all so its kind of hard to do this. But i have gone alone and shot a group of people and left before they knew what hit them. I just think its doing what youre supposed to be doing. |

As I see it, one of the main points of being a sniper is shooting from a concealed position with a weapon that has greater effective range than that of your target.
Since all paintball guns shoot the same distance, it's impossible to be a paintball sniper, in the true sense of the word. |

Unless I'm mistaken: Original sniper rifles were no more than ordinary
mil and sporting rifles that were accurized (better barrels and
ammunition) and had more accurate ways of aiming them (scopes). So in
actuality they did not have any range advantage until guns specifically
designed for sniping were made. Because of the way they "fought" they
were inherantly more accurate (not the guns but the users) and
therefore more dangerous then a squad of men. If you want to look at it that way, then snipers exist in paintball (I don't play that way). But since this is an argument that no-one can win, it's stupid to even bother starting a thread over it. -------------

Origins of Sharpshooters/Snipers in modern warfare.
During the American Revolution the standard smooth bore musket of both sides were accurate out to 70yards, hense the formational warfare of the time was required for accuracy and volumn of fire. The Americans being less trained and more of a civilain woodman/hunter did not do well in these force on force type battles. Being a frontier society there were highly accurate muskets available, tighter tolerences, and rudimentary "rifleing" increasing accuracy and range. The Pennsylvania Rifle was a classic example, reaching out accurate to 150-200 yards. Colonial Armies used "sharpshooters" to shoot at Officers in the ranks to destroy command and control, as well as artillerymen manning the cannon limiting effective artillery fire. So having a 150yard plus range advantage, plus firing from behind the organized ranks usually from positions of high advantage gave the American forces a decided advantage. And these weapons were not converted military issue weapons, but specifically designed weapons, and distinct tactical use. The Civil War also saw a distinctly designed weapons outranging issue service rifled muskets of the era, again targeting command and control personnel and artillery crews, again from positions of high advantage behind the organized battle lines. World War 1, saw the introduction of rifles capable of firing in excess of 1000 yards, the Mausers, Lee-Enfields, Lebels, and Springfields, all could reach these distances, but accuracy beyond 250yards was questionable for a standard rifleman. The telescopic sight was used to increase the accuracy range to a standard of @500 yards, again targeting command and control personnel and machinegun crews in the trenches, or any soldier careless enough to expose himself, a purely physcological effect. World War 2 and later saw specialized weapons designed specifically for individual round accuracy beyond the 250yard/meter standardized range of the issue Infantry weapons. Still 500-800 meters is the established tactical norm for "sniper" weapon effectivness. Visual aquirement of point targets beyond 250meters is limited unless visual aids are used. In paintball the standard 20meter range of all markers limits the tactical application of individuals to close ambush applications, firing from concealed locations but still within effective enemy return fire range. -------------

I'm the sniper in the team where I go out with the sniper but am his close support if we run into a situation. My A-5 has a E-Grip for that reason but, I have a tac cap which holds 50 rounds because that is all I will need. On another note I almost forgot why I left these forums but I remember now because if you post something that others may not agree with all people do here is flame you and try to degrade you. And I guess you do not see your point of view as a conflict to many here, correct, you say there are snipers, we say there are not, we post there is not, you post there is, you wish to go elswhere, feel free.
All I need to say is where are all these snipers in all the many scenario games across the country we play in. I have not run across or have been taken under fire by one yet. Just your run of the mill infantryman from a covered and concealed position firing into a kill zone in an usually poorly excuted ambush. I have allways used mini hoppers and 4oz verticals on my markers, and do have the ability to counter your average wanna-be "sniper" in his poorly selected, bad camoed position, ask any OMHW. -------------
