Hey, I'm thinking about getting a Smart Parts Ion, but I wasn't sure what upgrades are out there. Can someone help me out and tell me some good upgrades I could/ should get for the Ion? I'd appreciate it.

I don't think there is much performance wise. I gues a Halo B. That's all I can think of. I guess you could paint or get a unique body for it?

Oh, yea I read that it's good to use an eletronic hopper with it because of the rate of fire. What about a new barrel?

first upgrade... ASA Go for a Unimount with On/off. I suggest a Redz Railz.
Second. Feed Neck, I dislike medium/tall feednecks(personal prefrence)
and so do 90% of other paintball players, go for a Halo no rise, or
even a Redz Cam-lock feed neck will work great, and keep your profile
low.
third. Barrel(DUR!) In this are it is totally up to you, but I really
like the Smart Parts All American and the Lapco Bigshot, they will give
you the best shot for your money.
4th. Regulator, I really don't like the regulator on the Ion, there
very bad, I made this one lower in the list becasue of the price tag on
a Regulator. But I suggest a Palmer Fatty, or a Bob Long Torpedo they
will give you the best consistancey for your money.
after that, I guess a QEV, body kit, Trigger and some grips if you need them.

Probably a stupid question, but what's a QEV?
Probably a stupid

How you going to learn if you don't ask?
QEV = Quick Exaust Valve.
The QEV kit replaces your
from banjo fitting. On the "exaust" part of the firing cycle, the air
will exit at the fitting instead of having to travel all the way back
to the solenoid. Users report that the QEV allows the dwell to be set
much lower resulting in a faster cyclic rate and lower air use. (Note:
a faster cycling rate is NOT the same as more balls per second. The Ion
board is capped at 17 balls per second.)
Instulation is very simple. The only issue is getting the QEV to seal,
which may requied changing the (included) o-rings

Hmmm... for the price you can't beat a Bigshot, but for a awsome barrel for under $70 deffinetly go for the Freak Jr.

Don't forget about a trigger. If you are going to keep the Ion in Semi then a new trigger is a very good upgrade (or even if you're going to use rebound mode). I'd suggest this one.. http://www.actionvillage.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/eCS/Store/en/-/USD/DisplayProductInformation-Start;sid=HYshyBujIsQgzliH0rDhYBEFFfpFkvYY67Y=?ProductID=IATAqArbgBoAAAEEiZA7WxAc - http://www.actionvillage.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/eCS/S tore/en/-/USD/DisplayProductInformation-Start;sid=HYshyBujIs QgzliH0rDhYBEFFfpFkvYY67Y=?ProductID=IATAqArbgBoAAAEEiZA7WxA c .

I read that the gun is small, so it's harder for larger people with larger hands? Is that true? Also, should I get a drop forward?

drops are preference... the duckbill is definatley uncomfy...so I truly recommend some sort of drop whether it be Unimount or a Drop Forward

Speaking of ups for the Ion:
1. Are there any aftermarket (or SP) bolts that would be recommended, or is the stock bolt perfectly fine?
2. As far as QEVs go. Which one is best? I know there are several QEVs out there (I have a Palmer's 360 on my A-5 and it's BIG) of different sizes. Which one would be the best fit? I don't want to modify the body to install a QEV.
3. Thinking about upgrading to a Rampage Board. I'm very satisfied with the Rampage board I have in my A-5. Other than the lack of availability, what are the cons of the Rampage vs. other boards?
Just fishing for opinions guys. Upping the Ion looks to be my 'Winter Project'. I'd just like some input and ideas. Thanks!

Or what?
Look, if any post is readable - it is fair game to respond. What difference does it make anyway? I would have still asked the questions whether I created a new post or posted it on this thread. Perhaps your energy would be better spent in actually helping, instead of being overly critical of where posts are made.

Don't bump posts. It is extrememly annoying to others. make a new thread if you have something to say. I am sure that this person has made his choice after it already being a year.

I know I shouldnt be keeping this post going but.... 1.The http://www.actionvillage.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/eCS/Store/en/-/USD/DisplayProductInformation-Start;sid=ye227gO--Tm29UYm99h2RglqdkLP59r0gaU=?ProductID=tlnAqArbJbAAAAEOIGbl6aVd - L7 is from what I hear one of the best bolts on the market. The point of a new bolt is for reduced kick and more efficency with the L7 some say you can get up to 500 more shots with a 68/3000.
2. I have a http://www.actionvillage.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/eCS/Store/en/-/USD/DisplayProductInformation-Start;sid=ye227gO--Tm29UYm99h2RglqdkLP59r0gaU=?ProductID=AuXAqArb8aAAAAEI6Dx97Olo - Clipperd QEV it is very easy to install and you dont need to mod you gun for it.
3. A Rampage Board for an Ion is quite expensive. I think the hottest board out for an Ion right now for the price is the T-board.
Thats my $0.02

As long as there is no rule against bumping posts, I'll exercise my right of discretion to do so. Many 'others' are just as or more annoyed by redundant posts or surveys that have been covered over and over and over again. Bumping an old post that still has relevance is by far the lesser of these evils IMHO.

Thanks for your input. I sincerely appreciate it. I'll have to check out the L7 and the T-board. Are there any other QEVs out there besides the Clipperd that will fit without modding the gun?

I am almost positive all of http://www.actionvillage.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/eCS/Store/en/-/USD/BrowseCatalog-Start;sid=RAkyY1pmEV0yzR_-Pv7yy1Cv-6ZLavSJnMk=?CategoryName=paintball-gun-parts-and-upgrades-smart-parts-gun-upgrades-ion-parts-ion-qev-kits - THESE will fit.

Thanx! Looks like all will fit without modding except for the 360. Checked on that, and you do have to cut or shave and area inside the marker to get it to fit correctly.

I am hoping to get a sling trig. first then I want to see how nice the L7 is if or when my friend gets it along with the T-board. (I know the t-board is nice I am just unsure of the L7 it looks a little overpriced) I just havent placed my order.

When you get that L7, let me know. I'm considering it amongst other bolts. It would be nice to have a review of it.
