Subject: Church Retreat
Date Posted: 11 September 2005 at 10:12pm
This weekend, I went on a church retreat. I was dreading it once Friday came around. I had to leave right after school and get back at 7 on Sunday. I had a group of friends going, and they were are in the same mindset as me. When we got there, we were pretty close-minded. We were just ragging on all the kids who were getting into the singing and just making fools of themselves. The next morning I woke up in a different state of mind. It felt like a dream, but didn't at the same time. I started to become a little more loose and accepting. Later that morning, I went to confession for the first time in 8 years. It was quite possibly the best feeling I have ever felt in my life. Afterwards we broke up into small groups and just hung around for several hours. We ended up having a service right before we went into adoration. For those of you who don't know what adoration is, it's a ritual the catholics believe in. It's supposed to bring God into the same room as you in a physical form. So basically, it was sitting in a room for an hour and a half on your knees. I didn't get anything out of it, but others did. Some people started balling in tears and others sleeping. One kid actually passed out, and woke up speaking in tounges. I was happy for it to end because I didn't get anything out of it. My friends and I wander around the camp grounds for some time then decide to sit down on a porch. It was around 11:00 PM that three of my friends wanted to head back to the cabin to shower and wash up. My friend, Eric, and I stayed back on the porch. We are sitting there and are just hanging around with the other people on the porch. Then we saw this white figure that started in the middle of the lake and ran across the pond/lake. It was moving at about 40 MPH. At the end of the lake, there's a steep hill drop off thing. The white figure ran straight over the hill and was floating in mid air for about 10 seconds. My friend and I were the only people to see it. We decide to go over to the lake to check this out. Once we start walking over to the lake, my hair starts to stand on end, it became really cold, and my eyes started watering. It was as if I was crying, but I wasn't. There was just water running though my eyes, but I was completely calm. We left the lake about 30 minutes afterwards to go back to the cabin. When I walk, there's no one in there. People start to enter our cabin about 10 minutes after I'm sitting there, they ask me if I'm sick. They said my face was as pale as a sheet of paper. I tell them what happen, some believe us, some don't. My friends and I go to sleep. The next day, we say our goodbyes and leave. I have decided to take the sighting as a sign. I'm going to start going to church again, and give my religion and church another chance. Believe me, this was the craziest experience of my life.

Thats cool, I too have been toying with whether or not i should return to church. I went to a mass for the first time in 6 years a few weeks ago. I only went because my girlfriend asked me to go because it was her grandads rememberence mass type thing, so i said why not.

I actually kind of enjoyed it.

I always get yelled at for sleeping in church, but I still go, and I can't see myself quitting

Except...I skipped this morning to go goose-hunting...but I only skip church for certain things...Like hunting and ice fishing-I never skip just because I'm tired...

Glad to see people are heading for church, beats burning in hell for eternity

I'm having a difficult time with religion right now.
I believe in God and Jesus and the Bible, but I have disagreements on a lot of things with my church (and most other churches as well).

I read the Bible and see completely different things than most people. I can't stand when people tell me I'm wrong because my interpretation of the Bible is different than theirs, and so I haven't been to church in like 3 months.

I also think Christians are just too dang pushy about stuff.

no man..what you are thinking of is catholicism...exactly why i made the switch to  protestant...you should be able to read and interupt the bible the way you see it...you don't need to talk through a priest to speak to God

*i am extermely religious but i do not attent church at all...i just don't believe in the whole organized religion thing

I attend the Church of Christ (no, not of Latter Day Saints). It's kinda like a stricter Baptist church.

Dont worry if you stay in my corner, Ill have you back to not believing in no time...at least until the rapture, then it will be too late for you to repent and be saved.

i went to a retreat, it was more or less the same exact thing you explained. when the part happened with the "Face of God in the room" all the girls were crying and literally 15-20 people passed out, one kid even had a seizure and started bleeding profusely from his nose, it was scary.
-edit- hey, out of curiosity, what does everyone think happens after death? i'm torn between thinking it just ends, and you just stop, or whether you stay on earth as a different form of life. not exactly reincarnation, but more as a ghost. (i don't mean to threadjack, so don't reply if you think that's what it is)

Wow. Catholics speaking in tounges? Interesting indeed! Around here its frowned upon. But im very happy for you cedric. My experiences with church retretes and church led summer camps have always been wonderful. I have a lot of very fond memories, and yes, i got into the singing and such, you just get caught up in the fellowship of it all, in my mind, this is the heart of the Christian Faith, or, it should be at any rate.

I'm willing to take that risk. I'd say all of the vice and sin is just too much to pass up for "total coverage" for something that more than likely doesn't exist.

Hahaha! I think I would have been a sleeper.

So before your Jesus sighting, how much earlier had you eaten a meal? Also when you were kneeling in one place for a long period of time, were you allowed any breaks. Maybe your body wasnt happy being in one place for a long time in an unnatural position and lack of food and water made you see things.

Kinda like a head rush when you stand up too quickly...

To me it doesn't matter where it's from.  If you've got a word SOOOOO cool you don't want anyone using it, then do us a favor, and keep it to yourself.  Because frankly, I'm sick of your conceded self's thinking everyone who isn't in your friend circle is a newb.

Same here, but I don't know to much about catholicism.  But realize, just because you don't agree with one denomination of christianity, doesn't mean another isn't right for you.

Because living as a christian just ruins your life...

It sure makes it less fun. I'd rather not have a bunch of hypocrites try to run my life thank you.

Stereotype anyone? And all muslims are suicide happy morons....
Ummm...? How is that relevant?

Don't blame me, I voted for Kodos.

You are assuming that all Christians are hypocrites that try to run your life.  Thats like saying all muslims are extremist suicide bombers.  Its just an analogy, a correct one too.

Old jerks give Christians a bad name, we're not all hypocrits

I believe that when I die, I'll go to heaven

I believe in God, and I believe he helps me out when I need him most

I will not, however, push people to become a Christian...just because it's my opinion that God exist doesn't make it right

Burn in hell, or get made fun of for being a Christian

I'll take door number two

Thanks for not making me have to type that.

I'll take door number three.

I live my life right. Then when I die, no matter what, I make it into heaven. Cause' say I lived a nice honest life. Then I die. If there is no after life, hopefully my legacy will live on. If there is a heaven, God will be smart enough to realize I am a cool guy and let me in.

Alright, point taken.  But first tell me how I forced anything on him.  I never once told him he had to believe.

If you don't ever want to hear anything besides what you think is right, then your going to be living in a world of negativity.

I simply told him what the BIBLE says, which does have a little something to do with Christianity, or so those preacher guys say.....

I have to admit, that was a semi-witty remark.  And regardless of the politcal gouge that just took, I still think it was funny....

If you want to take snippiets, and go with what the BIBLE says. In one year i will have turned you into a bread eating, blood drinking, children killing, wife beating, slave holding christian.. Dont get hung up on the little stuff. The big picture is what is important.

Because we definately don't need guns, I mean if we take guns away that will better society because of course criminals will give up their guns too!

Saying that because you want stronger gun restricitions, so you obviously would take his shotgun away before he could use is

Okay lets leave that at that and leave politics out of this thread.

Now answer my question:  Are you a male?  I get told that you are.

I presume that you think that this is my position.  On what do you base this belief?  When have I ever said any of these things?

Quote Okay lets leave that at that and leave politics out of this thread.

Isn't this whole thread about politics?

Now who has been feeding you lies?  You shouldn't listen so much to people on the internet.

No this thread is not about politics, its about religion.  Unless you consider those the same?

If he won't do it, I will.

You, Dune, Smitty, and a few others, always tend to take a liberal stance on almost every political view.  (And I'm honestly not taking a cheap shot, because I respect all three of you)  So naturally, liberals are for gun control, and he was making a joke, and taking one of your mild stances to the extreme.

I'm sure you already knew all that, your just wanting someone to mess up so you can start a good debate....  So there it is.
