The Apex barrel is amazing in its ability to curve shots around, under, and over bunkers. Perhaps it will be as common place as R/T's and E-grips are today... but for now I think it is pretty much for cheaters that can't play normal paintball. I do ofcourse realize no one is truly cheating until the Apex is banned. If I were a field owner I would outlaw it now, before too many people buy it and can't use it. Some of you would say the Flatline is the same, but asside from being able really reach out far, and being able to make some curved shots by tipping your flatline equiped marker to 10-30°, it is not nearly as extreme as the Apex. http://www.btpaintball.com/bt_newsite/f_start.html - http://www.btpaintball.com/bt_newsite/f_start.html Hot button: The Apex could be very popular among serious speedballers, since they are mostly, not all now, but mostly cheaters. Its not really for cheaters I mean its not like you automatically hit
people that are behind bunkers. Its not really that big a deal to have
them curve side to side because you would really have to be good at it
to hit people like that. I do think the flatline mode and the 'down'
mode are cool though. you could play speed with it set to down all the
time and just aim higher and higher until you can get them curving
right down on top of enemys heads. It would be awesome to nail someone
right on the top of the head like that.

^^^ The Apex does not have a "Flatline mode". It curves a ball low and up for its long shot... not flat and straight like the Flatline... It would be fun to shoot peeps right on top of the head... ------------- Xs. I'd hardly call it cheating. If anyone took that out in speedball, I
think they'd get wasted. For example, if I ran to a bunker, and someone
on the other team had an Apex, they'd probably try to him me while
curving around the bunker. They'd have to set it, then get the range.
I'd clue in pretty fast when I see balls curving behind me. Just as he
gets the right distance, I'd move to another bunker. He'd have to
reset, and re-aim. Meanwhile, I'd probably be lacing his bunker with
paint, so he can't shoot. Or I'd run straight at him to bunker him,
while he's desperatly shooting at me, only to see his balls curve
helplessly around me.

A local field owner here has a 98C with an Apex. I've seen him shoot it and while the balls do curve sideways, I don't think the curve is not drastic enough to hit someone immediately on the other side of a bunker. But on the "drop" setting, the balls drop like rocks. To me, the barrel isn't that big of a deal. It's player skill, not equipment that determines how good one is at the game. ------------- Tippmann A-5 14 in. Hey I actually tested a apex barrel at the start its pretty hard to get used to but when your used to it, it only takes like 3 seconds to set it where you want it to curve to. ------------- ya ever noticed in a beer commercial no one ever drinks a beer? |

Seems like another huge novelty item, people will get it, and switch
back to their other barrel(s) after a few games, after they figure out
they don't like it too much, I've seen this with a lot of things like
the apex barrel.

I feel so sad. I dont really like the apex, I watched a vid and the balls were going everywhere when it was set at flatline mode. The curveing mode worked well though.Posted By: Bruce A. Frank

If one is interested in a Flatline, then the Apex is a good alternative. The Apex is, right now, selling for the same price as the Flatline in many of the on-line stores. Use it in Flatline mode, using the other curving modes when you really, really have to wrap a shot around that bunker. Now let's approach the word "sniper" for a second. This barrel may make "sniper" legitimate in paintball. A sniper shoots from a hidden sometimes undetectable position. If you are behind your bunker a "sniper," with the Apex, may hit you leaving you with no idea as to where the shot originated. Sounds like "sniping" to me! |

I could imagine a backman in speedball using the Apex to help his balls drop right on top of opponents behind bunkers.A couple backmen with apexes and the ability to use them proficiently would be frightening.

YES, and I have on on order right now! It may not be the best for a snap shot, but when I am posting on someone it will be an equalizer. Then again, there are so many darn cheaters (spell that ramping bps and velocity) in the advanced games, I need something unique. |

It appears to me to be a discussion on the value of this upgrade. A true customization of the marker. Half the questions on this forum are, "Should I get this?" and "Is this any good?" This is exactly where this post should be. Some people are expressing opinions about it while others are relating experience, sources and general info. Tell me how this question is less relevant than "What color should I paint my marker?" or "I have some money, what upgrades should I get?" which we see here all the time.

Make sure you do one thing when you get. Make a thread about your experiences. Although I'd never get it (I'm a front player), I'd really like to hear from someone knowledgeable as to how the barrel works out.
