That's like the 1 billionth time I've seen you write that. Are you a teacher or something? And it isn't just the air that pushes the ball out of the gun.

Ohhhhh.... poondizzled.

The air and bolt operate as a team. Without one, the system would not work...

The bolt pushes the ball into the barrel, out of the breech, and makes a seal around the barrel. Air is then released by the time the ball is in the barrel and sealed from the breech. The bolt is like a set in volley ball- it gets it ready for the "spike," then the air comes in and slams it into the other team's face. The propellant is, however, totally the air. The bolt only pushes the ball into the barrel.

mostly well put, ^^^ , but to clarify, the air being released is your COČ or Nitrogen from your tank which causes the bolt to thrust forward... as it thrusts it pushes some COČ/Nitrogen with ambient air (the stuff we are walking around in and breathing) forward... the front of your bolt has a venturi shape, usually like a star that distributes the forced ambient air forward evenly behind and around the backside of the ball... this cushions and forces the ball out straight and fast... the bolt never touches the ball.  If it did it would destroy a paintball and jam your marker.  The end of your straight barrels are usually vented (holes or slots drilled/cut through) to disipate the forced air as the ball exits the barrel and prevent suction.  This stabilizes the ball before it exits the barrel and allows maximum velocity.  Happy shooting!

besides to push the ball in the barrel. so the bolt does have a part of pushing the ball out of the gun.

The bolt cycles forward and backward for each shot. When it is in the rear position the breach is open and a ball falls down to be loaded. When you fire the bolt slams forward. This chambers the paintball, it is now in battery. The breach is sealed when the bolt is forward, at this instant the gas is released and distributes through the front of the bolt behind the ball.

The ball wouldn't make it past the detent if it wasn't for the gas.

No.  The bolt has no part of pushing the ball out of the gun.  On a cocker, for instance, the bolt does not move at all when you pull the trigger until after the ball has left the gun.  The air acts on a stationary ball.  In a blowback gun the mechanism is reversed, but the bolt still does not exercise near enough force on the ball to push it even halfway through the barrel.  Then there are various bolt-less guns - they manage just fine without a bolt at all.

The function of the bolt is not to move the ball anywhere - that is incidental.  The function of the bolt is to seal the chamber, much like the bolt in a firearm.

Yes, the bolt HAS to push the ball into the barrel. Cut the bolt into a quarter so it only blocks the breech- the ball would fly horribly. Thats why Tippmann has an o-ring on the end. Also, air isn't released until the bolt is inside the barrel adapter. Take your gun apart and see for yourself.

This was a stupid thread! One wich has provoked a great deal of petty arguments. The first post in this thread should have lead you to disregard any future posts within it as it was stupid.

p.s Your friend is not an idiot. (Go figure!)

BUT THE BOLT PUSHES THE BALL FORWARD ALONG WITH AIR IF YOU DRY FIRE IT WITH A PAINTBALL IN THE CHAMBER THE BALL GOES FORWARD. So the bolt has to do with pushing the ball to.

tell you what take the air off of your gun, cock it, drop a ball into it, now point it at the wall and shoot it. how big of a splat did it make? that's right it didn't make a splat BECAUSE THE BOLT DOSEN'T FIRE THE BALL. you are so thick headed you won't listen to all of us anayway
