Subject: New Tippmann pump gun
Date Posted: 21 September 2005 at 3:40pm
I went to the TWC this year and Saturday morning the Exotic Sportz trailer had a new Tippmann pump gun on display. It was called the C3. Later it wasn't out anymore and I heard they had to put it away because they weren't supposed to unveil it yet. It's due for release this fall. We talked to some people about it and found out it will be powered by propane. That's right the same propane used in blow torches and backyard grills. They claim 60,000(!) shots from a standard tank. They also said, in response to our suggestion that it could turn your gun into a flame-thrower that the propane is so diluted by the time it is used that there is no way you could ignite it. The only bad side effect is an unpleasant odor. They said they are producing the pump version first because it is easier to manufacture than the semi-auto and they wanted to get it out into the market place as soon as they could to protect their patent rights. A simi-auto version will follow soon.

The C3 did look incredible...

SO SMALL

Smaller then the Ion, and looked pretty sweet. I thought it was a custom mod by the Exotic sportz team because the tippmann trailer did'nt have any of them out...

But that would explain why they were pulled so early, I was wondering where they went, I was going to buy one possably.

Because people (like me) enjoy the challenge of pump. And it's a lot more satisfying eliminating someone. Hearing people rip off strings of paint is boring and they're never more dangerous than a guy who shoots moderately.

Propane powered? Yes. No need to lug a grill tank, and no worries of ever needing a tank fill. You don't fill any tank, period. You buy a new one for $2.50 at any local store. I double checked Wal Mart, something like that price for a 16oz bottle.

The gas is already extremely low in pressure straight from the tank, and the amount used to fire the marker is very small. So no worries of it exploding in your face. The inside has a protective layer to keep it cool so don't worry about melting your fingers off. It might be combustion but it's a very well engineered product.

Pump was the design of choice for a few reasons. Simplicity of design being the main reason. Tippmann isn't making this to replace the A5, this is made as a proof of concept. So they are the first to tap into this resource, and harness it as they wish. Patent wise I wasn't told. Can't really talk about it and fix guns at the same time.

And yeah, Tippmann had HS pull the guns down from the spotlight. Dave & crew have been testing them for some time to give opinions and feedback of it. Was a shock for me to see them displayed.

Not really much else I'm allowed to give. Figure since the word is out I might as well help with some of the confusion. But all info needed will be available in about a month. For any "how do you know" questions, I was one of the guys fixing guns or workin in the trailer all weekend. Had to know, got asked about it too much. Every hour at least was another a5og'er askin about them.

call me dumb but do you work for Tippmann?

15 cents an ounce for CO2, 20 ounces lasts a 1000 shots.

Or, 2.50 for 50,000 shots of propane.
Id guess, without doing any math, propane is cheaper.

According to OS, Green Gas (this gas they use to power some airsoft pistols) is nothing but dilute propane. Tippmann is probably using that in a different style tank.

For all those who can't see the idea of buying a pump, you have obviously never played and had the fun of taking down electros with a well placed shot from a pump gun.

As far as the operation of the gun, I can see how propane would work, but the thing is, propane has many of the limitations of CO2, being a pressurized liquid.

Oh you will see the awesomeness when the specs of the gun and the look of it is released.

It is a bit blocky though... Kinda like an older impy.

I'd suggest keeping it to yourself. That's it was pulled it from display. I have pictures but I ain't posting them. It'll only be another couple weeks any ways until the PR comes out.

Stock Class rules = 10rnd tubes and 12grams. This encompasses NEITHER. It's right side breech direct feed and there are no 12gram propane cartridges to my knowledge. Not to mention 12grams of propane are far superior in efficiency than even a 9oz CO2 tank on your average phantom. So even if there were, it defeats the purposed of SC rules still.

So it's Open Class, not Stock Class legal. Sorry.

You can not modify it to take any other gas source other than propane.

15rnd Hopper... sure. It's direct feed but you can always rig up like a PVC horizontal tube.
