it must be nice to have people buy stuff for you. and if you get any of those cars... i hope they buy gas for you too, because you're definately going to need it.

It's not just gas! Insurance on a car with a pumped-up engine is gonna be REDICULOUS for a young man without driving expereince, even if it is an older car.
Also, older cars are heavy, and don't tend to handle well as most of the newer cars. Heavy car+bad handling+ lots of torque and power is probably the worst thing for a beginning driver....like these guys said "death trap" comes to mind!
But of course, do whatever you want, just be safe.
I don't think the word sexy even describes a muscle car, I think the "sexiest" car on the road is the Nissan 350Z, hands-down.

Amen.
- Muscle Cars are retarded for first cars
- You will pay far to much in insurance
- Gas costs
- Price of car itself
- Upkeep
- Your making the fact you are getting one up, your actually 14 and have a ZOMG CLASSIC CARS calender on your wall.

oooh, wrong! im 16, almost 17 and getting my license! check the profile. plus, me = eagle scout. its why im so cool! my dad is getting me the car, insurance will be under his name, but i will pay for it, and the torque + bad maneuverability crap, what do you think im gonna do? race it? i may not be a good driver, but im not stupid... id love my car too much to risk it. also, its going to be a relitively low powered engine, other than the gto. maybe a 318ci in the mopars. and the reason im getting the money for one is the college account. our financial advisor said to withdraw the cash from the fund because it will actually increase the cost if i have my own account. plus, dont criticize me, just vote. i know what i want and i know what to do with it.

i didnt know darur was a scout. (!) as for bluemunky, that has happened to me before, but the scoutmaster remembered me working on it and he gave it to me. the badge was emergency preparedness i think. it was a while ago. and clark, those cars are infinately more sexy than a ricer. they are powerful, good looking (realy good looking), and are a good project for the owners and their family. ricers are just silly. especially since no one takes the time to finish them. example: a mitsubishi eclipse with half a body kit and 2 good rims. that is the most disturbing thing i have ever seen!

Apparently somebody doesn't know how insurance works. You can't just
simply put your insurance with your dads.. You must have your own
insurance, which will be seperate from your dads, and A LOT higher, and
even higher if you buy one of those cars. And for one, a good first car
has nothing to do with being sexy. Grow up, and read up on all this.

I owned a '70 Charger R/T SE, a little different from the '69 as the
'70 had the wrap around bumper and the reverse scoops on the doors.
Nice car, 440 magnum, super track pack, sublime green with white
stripes and a white interior. With 375 horsepower I burned
through alot of tires. Too bad I didn't hold onto it, nowadays I could
have sold it for enough to buy a late model viper.
Never had a mullet though, except for lunch. Mullet from the gulf are on the menu in many restaraunts in Florida.

As you can tell, im a mopar man, and, ignoring all criticism, it looks like its gonna be a challenger. oh, for future reference, i was looking at 350z. just wasnt my style. oh, i do live in texas, dont have a mullet, and am just a little redneck. so it works for me.

look, i am fully prepared to accept any responsibility that comes with owning a car of this stature. this includes cost of gas, maintanence, insurance and maybe, heaven forbid, tickets. me and my family have talked this over, and agreed upon my decision. we all like these kinds of cars, and we will work on it as a family. and clark, i respect you and what-not, but if your sole purpose is to call me a redneck, then i am inclined to ask you to leave. i know you probably will not, i just take offense to being stereotyped by the cars i like. and sporx, you should look into a baja-bug. they are only about 3000$ for a good one and are the coolest beetles out there. thank you for your time.

I laugh when people think 8,000 is cheap for a car! When your money is going down, you will be a lot more conscious of it.
But since I'm a solutions-oriented person, instead of jus telling you muscle cars suck and are a waste of money, I'm going to tell you how to do better for less!
First, buy something like this, 1992 Nissan 240SX:
Then you're going to do a motor swap, for this if you want a little power(up to 300HP) ...not bad for a 1.8l
All for under $4,000! You can have 2, 300HP cars for the price of one bargain Buick

| Yes, I respect you greatly now. I don't know WTF I did to that post, but oh well, the message is there!
I feel you on the 300ZX, those cars are awesome! They are a CRAZY car to grow with...insane power potential!
I am not totally into the car-crazy circuit, but I do know the 300ZX is considered a car to respect no matter who you talk to(unless their an import hater).
I have seen people getting crazy power off of Nissan 4-cylinders(well over 500HP!), and they are cheap, reliable, and to top it off STYLISH!
That car I linked to is $1,500 OBO, says it runs great!
I'd rather buy my stock car for less than 2K, and put $6,000 worth of aftermarket parts rather than paying those dollars on stock junk....I don't care if it's a '66 or 2006, stock sucks!

yeah, they're worth a LITTLE over 30G's new....closer to $100K.
But you can get used ones that are US legal for around that price.
And yes, as far as I know it's the prototype/concept for the new Skyline and will be a 2-door.
DeTrevni, one difference in paying half for the Buick is that the Scion will be a brand new car, easy to get financed and pay a low monthy payment. You're most likely going to be dropping a few G's in one shot on the Buick. If you like older cars then go for it, I just think it's not a good beginner car and you can get better for less money.
trust me, once you get in a car that is actually fun to drive(the Nissan), you will be so glad you spent your money on that rather than that gas hog, no handling beast.
But then again, I'm sure it has a big back seat, so that should count for something.
And as for the Scion, 200HP is pretty peppy so long as the car isn't overly heavy or unbalanced.
But drive a Nissan, and you will find you import with torque all over the powerband!
Older 240sx's are pretty much unbeatable for the money! They aren't the best drag cars, but they handle awesome, are tunable as hell, and awesome performance for such little gas-savers....plus they're stylish, but that's just my opinion.

yeah, i agree with everything youi said, but like i said, its all planned out. i like nissan. actually, they are my favorite japanese company, but i think im just gonna get the buick. the only racing im gonna be doing is legit drag racing, and by the time i get the 240z to match the buick as it is now the prices will be about equal, the z may be less. i understand insurance, gas and whatnot but my dad has an idea about insurance. i have already budgeted my weekly money for the gas, and even insurance, should i have to pay. i have driven the car already, and admit to its difficulty to drive, but im ready to commit to it. the only reason im going to need cash for a while will be the car and paintball. in that order. the car is all i want money for, and im willing to devote all my cash towards it. im just wierd like that...
