What do you mean "need"? Whose need is it? I.e., I "need" morals for my own benefit, or society "needs" morals for its benefit? Or other people "need" morals for my benefit?

| People need morals and values because they keep the world in order. If people didn't have any morals then there would be rapists, murderers, thiefs and the like all over the place. Granted there are a few bad apples like that but the people with morals and values keep them on the right track and keep the world turning. |

Well, murder is illegal killing. Rape is illegal sex. In an anarchical state without values or laws, you can have neither murder nor rape. Or thieves, for that matter. The ONLY reason we have rape, murder, and theft, is because we have certain values and laws. Not the other way around. But, of course, it would be impossible to have "no values". It would simply be different values. When people say "no values", they really mean "values I don't agree with". |

Yeah that is true but if people didn't have morals there would be a much greater number of them in my opinion. If someone doesn't give a hell about something they are going to do it. In my opinon anyway. |

A. No morals means no laws B. No laws means no illegal acts, no crimes C. No crimes means no murder, theft, or rape, since those things are defined by their illegality.
But most importantly: "no morals" = nonsense |

liberal parents so now I believe in the right to smoke pot, **edited** rights,
and racial equality.

Morals are just a form of social and personal controls similar to law and social values.
Are they important for people to get along, sure. Are they vital for existance to survive? Probably not. But everyone and every society has their own morals and expectations of other to adhere to those morals. Since they dont always coinside conflict is created. -------------

Speaking of Buddihsm, arent their views sort of paradox? They beleive in moderation and if they are moderate in everything they do isnt that taking moderation to the extream? Just a thought. But to answer your question Prod, think about doing something you never tried, dont you want to know the rules or limitations? I think its part of the human personality that we want to know the rules and if there are none we want to have them.
