No, you can't use propane to power your marker. You were probably hearing about Tippmann's experimental gun, which uses propane.

The way the weaponwoks is the propane cumbusts inside the weapon, producing a complex hydrocarbon reaction the by products of which are O2 and H2O there for you cannot just put a lighter on the end os your barrel and make a flamethrower....

For those who are wondering, c3h8 is propane, hence the c3
it runs off the same principles as co2, its expanding gas. no, theres no combustion...so the flamethrower idea is still in effect :p

I hope this isn't their high end marker that all the rumors are talking about.
Propane? where'd ya get it filled at? Something tells me local
paintball fields won't start carrying propane tanks (although I'm sure
you could siphon some off from the barbeque tank).
Anyone wanna tell me the advantages of using propane over air?

It seems to use standard disposable propane canisters, like the ones
you thread onto lanterns and portable camp stoves. You'll find them
roughly three aisles away from the paintball aisle at walmart.

50,000 shots from a 16oz tank seems like enough to me. I'm not sure if I've fired that many in my paintball career. I wonder what the stock accuracy is with that barrel? I've heard it gets hot after about 25 shots, I bet that's why the barrel is composite, so people don't burn themselves. Anyways, I hope it does indeed have interchangable barrels so I can get an aftermarket one(I don't have much faith in tippmann's stock barrel) I think I'm used to real firearms enough to avoid burning myself on a metal barrel.

Some thoughts:
- If it's a pump, why worry that much about how many shots the tank holds (it's not like you'll be shooting all that fast)
- Having worked with propane on camper shells, I know that you have
to be careful with the tanks to not allow any liquid propane to get
into the system because it can gum up stove valves-this marker could
have similar problems if stored incorrectly
- I'd also be careful only to install/uninstall tanks outside and away from smokers, open flames, etc.
- New Tippmann C3-Just add rednecks, campfires, and beer "Hey there Billy-Joe-Jim-Bob; hold muh PBR and watch this."

From what Ive gathered, it uses combustion to compress a piston that
forces the ball out the barrel. Sortof like the e-volt that uses a big
solenoid to compress a gas piston.

Well in my opinion it is a downside to the marker
but i was thinking could you fit one of these on http://www.backcountrygear.com/images/JetboilFuel.jpg - http://www.backcountrygear.com/images/JetboilFuel.jpg because it would be cool with a stock on it aswell and one that small will beable last about 4,000 shots

a reason you cant use propane on you regular gun is because the C3 has a spark plug in it to ignite the propane. imagine if that went wrong, and you were playing rec ball in the fall in the woods, well i guess there would be a forest fire.
im kinda weary about this whole propane, spark plug thing.

The "thingy" that ignites a bullet in a gun is a pin striking the back of the cartridge wich causes a chemical reaction with cordite then propells the projectile. you would need to use self propelled paintball cartridges for this idea to work.
