Impressively revisionist. If you read history from the century leading up to the civil war (American and European history) you will learn that slavery was a major national and international issue for decades. While slavery may not have been explicity raised as "what we are fighting for" until later in the war, that in no way reduces the significance of the issue in the politics of the time. To fail to acknowledge the importance of slavery is to take a uselessly narrow view of the period. |

Sorry man, but there were more slaveholding states in the north than the south when the war broke out. The emancipation proclomation only freed southern slaves, not northern slaves. Too bad education is so politcally correct nowadays. You'll never learn in school that Lincoln had planned to repatriate all of the former slaves to Africa. It's also not taught that there were colored regiments in the south that fought against the union. "Glory" was a good movie, and quite factual. But it wasn't the whole story.
