Has anyone tried doing a Google search for the word "Failure", and instead of doing the google search hitting the "I'm Feeling Lucky" button?

I'm pretty sure the Smitty's would get a kick out of it, let's just leave it at that.

I'm truly sorry for the old news, but for the record, I'm not a big Pres Bush fan, but I'm not the type to bash someone without cause.

I just thought it was funny that Google is capping on him like that....I wonder if he's seen it, and what he said when he saw it if he did.

Web crawlers.

Let me restate:  I understand that search engines use web crawlers to compile their databases.  I also understand that some websites are stuffed with extra keywords to attract crawler attention.  I don't understand how the White House website (which presumably isn't stuffed with "failure") attracts this much attention for this search.

I'm guessing that its just a hard coded reponse to the search of the word "failure". If you run 'failure' through the regular search, you'll notice that the first link is that page, the second is michael moores page. I personally think that there is code set up to automatically return those two as numbers 1 & 2 and then return actual search results.

Just MHO. If I knew exactly how they injected that sort of static entry into such a large, dynamic database, I would be working for them.

I don't come on here discussing politics and bashing the Pres because it's a subject where you aren't gonna change anyone's mind.

I just think it's really funny that google is ripping on him like that.

Now now there's no reason to get upset, it's all in good fun. Besides if it weren't Bush screwing up in office right now someone else would be.

^Exactly! And if Google was making fun of them I would think it's funny too, whoever was in office

I'm feeling lucky takes you to the first result on googles list for those words. Google does it's page rankings by counting searching for links using the keywords. So the more time someone typed http://whitehouse.gov - miserable failure with a link to whitehouse.gov the higher the page rank went (the original phrase was original failure). Basicly a bunch of bloggers got organized and typed it enough in their pages to make the page rank go high enough.

The way that google sorts and ranks data collected by their spiders has a bit of an exploitable hole.

The text of a link linking to another site is factored into the rating for the linked website. So if a million some odd websites all link to the white house website with the text "failure", thats the result. Its called a googlebomb.
