I've noticed that many (if not most of the guns being sold), do not
have any built-in aiming capabilities, and often do not even have the
capability to accept a sight.
Now, before you assume that your marker has a sight just because it has
a rail mounted on the body, read up on the aiming techniques of various
sights. You'll realize you're missing something when they start
talking about posts, blades, etc. Typically, what goes along with
dovetail sights, is a front mounted blade.
That being said, can you aim your marker if it has not complete sight
nor, a sight rail? Certainly, but, how accurately? Assuming you
have a consistantly shooting marker (and no significant wind), I
imagine, that you can probably look down the side or top of the barrel
and have a reasonable chance on hitting a dinner plate at around
20-30ft with a single shot. But, beyond that, it gets
increasingly difficult.
If you have a complete sight built into your gun, or even a sight
mounted, you just need to adjust for the range (aim a little
higher). Then your ability to hit the plate becomes purely
reflective of how well you know the drop off of the paintball in flight.

Waste of time. Paintball guns aren't that accurate at that range anyway. Sighting down the side of the barrel is plenty.

um why is this in T&O? This forum is for non-paintball related stuff. Try New Players...
EDIT: Why did you have to make a seperate post in the wrong forum again? That is Spam my friend.... You have been around long enough to know where to post stuff.

This thread is in an appropriate forum. Thoughts and Opinions can be about paintball too.
Paintball guns just aren't accurate enough to use any aiming method better than feel or looking down the side.

As long as I am not shooting paint at myself, I think I am doing a decent job of aiming.

i shoot... look where the ball went... and adjust from there...
muscle memory and i guess you could call it instinct is what i aim with. and unless i'm extremely posted up on someone... i'm snap shooting at people. I don't have enough time to aim through a sight

I actually used a 42mm Simmons for awhile on my paintguns and I think they helped a lot in getting me to know where my first shot will hit.
But honestly in paintball gun hits usually count and it's so close and fast-paced that sights don't work too well, but if it works for you go for it!

I sight down the barrel, works perfect for me. Sights lead to tunnel vision anyways.

Unless maybe stock class? I don't know.

i just shoot one shot then move from, most of my shots are about 50
feet away and since its an indoor field theres no wind so its easy to
hit people that way

"walking in the balls"
I dont even really need to aim now, I just have a "feel" for my gun, so I know that in this position, the ball will go this way, and how to adjust from there. You get used to it, you wont even use the sight if it had one.

I have a BSA Red Dot on my tippmann, but only because it is a scenario marker. It's actually dead on accurate up to 40 feet away, but after that there is no telling. I only show it's accuracy between games anyways, there just sin't enough time durring actual game play to have any use for it other than scaring the terds outa newbs. And like chewp, I have had the same marker for 5 years now, and I've got the feel for it nailed down so it's just like breathing for me to aim it.

agreed and well said, but my favorite is my friends spyder whos feedneck clearly obstructs my friend from taking aim if he wanted to....he improvises by using this little knob on the side of his marker and the end of his barrel, i do the same with my tippmann 98c, due to inconsistancy and the whole having to adjust the rear sight.......anyway we do this when we shoot downrange to see who can hit stationary targets more....but yea on the whole theyre pretty ineffective

I just point my barrel in the general direction, and then adjust a few inches up, left, or whatever if necassary.

When I used to play, I used hot pink paintballs and "aimed" by watching where they went.

Doc Nickel put it best in a "The Whiteboard" strip, Aim by zen...
With enough practice your muscle memory becomes good enough that you don't really have to think about it, you just think what you want to shoot at and, well, do it.

I dunno. I definatly like having my ADCO on my SL-68. Since it's a back bottle gun it's impossible to use the normal sites with a mask and your face is high up off the barrel, which isn't great for just snap shooting by firing as soon as it looks like it's pointed in the right direction by having a mental picture of what it looks like when it's going to hit the target. As for sights on my 98, I honestly usually just walk the paintballs into the target if they're off, but I try to keep consistant head and body position and look over the top of the barrel, so I have the correct muscle memory. However, if some idiot has his arse sticking out of a bunker, or keeps poping out of the same place, or there's a hole in some cover that people keep moving through, I use the sites. Even if they're not set to point of impact I use kentucy windage and try to get it so my first shots are right there. This gives you the advantage of not wasting as much paint, and when he pops out to shoot, he has to get his aim to hit you, and you're already zeroed in on him. Also hitting with those first shots helps so they don't realize they can be hit until they are. I also like to have a sight on my 98 when I run a 45round hopper, just because I have fewer rounds and must make them count.

Most paintball guns aren't really accurate enough to need sites.
If it is within shooting distance, you should be able to point and shoot. If not, you suck at aiming.
If there is a time where I may need to use my sites, I use them, but I still don't trust them. I will never risk missing a good shot just because my ball didn't go where my sites pointed. If I ever come into the situation where the shot would need to be perfect in order to hit, and I have to use my sites, I use them. But I shoot 4 or 5 balls because chances are that one of them will hit.

Man's physical advantage over other animals is that we are amazing at
judging projectile motion. With enough practice, a sight should never
be necessary in paintball. And on long shots, you would probably have
to raise the gun so far up that you couldn't see the target through the
sight. The only reason I see to have one is to hit a very small target
(like a small hole in a wooden bunker or a foot sticking ouy) from up
to 50 ft away.
