Well I am getting into shape for football next year, and here is what I am going to do.
Run Monday through Saturday. Starting at 2 miles a day, and add a lap to my distance every week.
Then after running the track Monday through Saturday, go to the YMCA and lift for an hour and a half with the free-weights and then go up to the fitness center and use the machines for a half hour. Then do 10 minutes on the stair climber going slow as a cool-down.
I'm going to do this for 3 weeks, and then skip a week as a rest-period. Then do it for 6 weeks, and skip a week as a rest period.. and so on. I am probably going to thoroughly beat myself.. but I am hoping to be able to get in good enough shape to get a starting positon on the varsity team.

Mondays and Thursdays: Chest, triceps, abs
Tuesdays and Fridays: Back, biceps, deltoids, abs
Wednesdays and Saturdays: Legs and abs

I have specific sets that I do, but that's more or less it.

I try to get in cardio when I can, but I've been bad about that part lately. I'd been doing this workout for about a month before I had to take time off for the wedding and school kind of got in the way. Now I've been back on for a week and a half and I'm quickly getting back to where I was.

I want to add to my scedule...i currently do:

5 days a week = 75 Minute Run (Goal is to hit 90 minutes)
5 days a week = 30 minutes of upper or lower body weights
5 days a week = 10 minutes of core work
1 day a week = something like 2.5 hours of street hockey

i am thinking of adding skipping, but i was wondering what else i could do

I'm not big really. I'm 5'10, 155 pounds. My metabolism makes it difficult for me to keep any weight on. I can get stronger, but it's hard to get bigger. Gaining weight is what I'm working on now.

that's a decent frame though

there's some guy on this bodybuilding forum, he has some pics of his progress over the 4 years or so he's been training, and he's put on over 100 pounds naturally in that time....it's not all muscle, but most of it is, and the guy looks like an entirely different human being....it honestly kinda inspired me because he looked like a skinny punk to begin with!

Like, I'm skinny, but at least pretty ripped...got some definition. This guy was skinny fat! I just figure if this guy could pack on 100 pounds in 4 years with his whack genetics, I could easily slab on a good 20 or so with my superior genetics.

Depending on your genetics, I'm sure you could put on ATLEAST 20 in a year.
I am 6' 4", 275 lbs. At the beginning of last summer, I was 6" 4" 250. That was when I started lifting. And its been about 8 months since then, and I've gained 25 lbs. I can guarantee that this it not fat, either. My body fat percent has decreased, and some people have said that I got skinnier over the summer (even though I don't think so). So if I can put on 25 lbs in under 8 months by lifting 5 days a week, I'm sure that you can gain atleast 20 lbs in a year. Depending on your build, you may hit a plateau where you just get stronger and not bigger.. but at the beginning you will definately get bigger.

he's not really my motivational guy, I kinda was already kick-started into the fitness part recently, but this is one that stood out in my mind pretty crazy as a good example that basically anybody can pack the pounds on

I guess the easiest way to say it is if I had any doubts on my genetics and potential to get big, seeing this guy made me lose all those....I feel like I have a better "base" to start with, not to talk smack or anything

Yeah that's true what you're saying devil2 about the beginner's growth

I've heard most people get huge gains when they first start lifting, then kinda hit more of a plateau where it's harder to gain size

I've never really lifted, but I think my body is just about prime for it right now

also, you a big sucker

Posted By: Devil2

Zesty.. if you want to get bigger, I would suggest taking Creatine. It doesn't make your muscles grow, but rather it helps them grow. And you are not nearly as sore after a workout. It is perfectly legal and it works very well. I do not take it anymore, but it worked great when I did.
It pretty much works my giving your muscles a boost so that after a workout, your muscles grow faster and then are done with it. Rather than your muscles growing at a moderate rate for a longer amount of time. It definately helps if you are going to be working out consecutive days, too.
It is only like $12 bucks at WalMart for a giant thing of it that will last you probably 3 months or longer. Or maybe check out www.muscletech.com
If you hadn't heard of it already, there you go.. check it out. If you had, no worries.

How old are you? I'm 15, and I was told that 15 or 16 is probably the best time to start lifting (for me, atleast).

I haven't lifted for about a month because of school, and I really dislike it. I haven't lost any weight, but I know I've become a LITTLE bit weaker.

And I've been told that plenty of times before. I love football, and I have wanted to play ever since 6th grade, although I haven't really had motivation to play. But now I have people on the team begging me to play, so I am going to. That gives me movtivation to lift and become stronger too. So over the winter, me and a friend are going to train with eachother and pretty much kill ourselves until we get to the point where we are very physically fit and ready to play next year when we start practicing with the rest of the team.

I'm 22

I'm not gonna use creatine yet because I don't lift weights, but from everything I read it's basically become a staple supplement for almost every bodybuilder....it's proven very effective, totally safe, and it's super affordable. Not much not to like.

I've heard the main things creatine does is draw water from the OUTside of your muscle to the INside, making you look bigger, fuller and more cut all at the same time, and it does give you extra muscle stamina by doing something I can't properly explain! LOL

bluemunky, when you're laughing at him, we're all laughing at you.

Well when you take creatine, you NEED to drink ALOT of water. If you dont, it could cause major problems. Ruining your liver is one of them. And if you notice any "undesireable" side effects, stop taking it RIGHT away.

Work out, exercise... haha. Not before at anytime in my life. My workouts really included snowboarding but that is only 3 months out of the year and not a routine thing. Now that i am taking JROTC in school we do PT once to twice a week so that gets my butt moving. We have block scheduling so i get a decent 90min workout. Its getting more intense every week. This week we are starting log PT, fun fun. Im a decent sized guy 5'10-5'11, 194lbs... not exactly muscle, but i keep up. I hope to be in better shape by the end of the year. My girlfriend wants to get a gym membership (after having the baby she is no longer her 115 pound self she used to be, and she misses it) so i think i will join her in this membership....

Monday, I'll usually hit up the gym on campus for about 40 minutes, chest, arms....

Wed. I'll try and get to the pool, and work everything.

Friday, same as monday.

Occasionally I'll break it up with a run.

Tuesday and Thursday's I'm up too damn early to do anything but pour coffee into me and stumble to class.
