Hey what's up guys, I have an old 68 carbine, and the bolt leaks gas. I don't really see any way to repair this, because unless I really screw with it, which I'm hesitant to do, you really can't break it down any further. Does Tippmann offer replacement bolts, or am I going to have to continue scouring ebay?
And if they still do offer replacement bolts, how much would one run for?

Oh, and I DO NOT want to get a new gun, because my current set up works very, very well when it is in working shape.

Before we go spending more money than we have to on replacement parts... can you give more detail as to what exactly is leaking?
Although at the same time, replacement parts might be worth picking up if you want to keep this gun for the long term... fairly soon, parts will be hard to come by. Where exactly is it leaking? Front bolt? Rear bolt? To me, neither of those should really have any kind of "leak". For the front bolt, go ahead and remove the o-ring. Replace it with a tank o-ring. The rear bolt requires a different o-ring. If you buy a seal kit, it will come with one. If your local store carries urethane O-rings with a durometer rating of 90... then look for a size 017. The rear bolt... shouldn't "leak". Air never passes thru it. If anything, a bad o-ring will cause the gun to studder or not cycle. The front bolt... shouldn't cause any kind of noticable leak. Air only passes thru when it cycles. Let us know more details. Where do you hear/feel the leak? When does it leak... right when you screw in the air source? Constant leak? To me... my guess is that it's coming from the valve. Might get fixed with a bit of oil... might need a rebuild/replacement. And just for future reference... since "68 Carbine" parts are hard to find... keep an eye out for ProCarbine parts (not Prolite). ProCarbine/68Carbine are 99% interchangable with parts. The only difference being the feed/foregrip assembly. I had five 68 Carbines at one point... am down to two, as three were taken from me. Great guns! You shouldn't have too much trouble keeping yours up and running with regular maintenance and some basic replacement parts (seals and springs mostly). |

Hey, I was having a similar problem with my procarbine. I know they are not exactly the same, but for this problem I think the differences can be set aside. Try putting 2-3 drops of oil in the ASA valve (where the tank screws in, sorry if I offend you, don't know how much experiece you have). Before you shoot the gun, TAKE OFF THE BARREL!! You don't want to get oil in it. Bad things will happen. Anyway, put in the oil and shoot the gun a couple times. the leak should stop. The reason this works is because the valve becomes dry from use and this is the only way to oil it. When dry, like all moving parts, the valve will stick and not seal completely. If this does not work, let me know and I apologize for taking up space. OK, I was mistaken, the "bolt" is just the hunk of metal that acts as a hammer, and it holds no pressure, so thats not what is leaking. Rather the "CA-V Valve" leaks. HOWEVER! On closer examination, I was just checking the chamber/valve for the hell of it by blowing in the bottom hole. Normally, it should hold the air pressure, and when I hit the "firering pin" (?), which is what releases the gas pressure when the hammber/rear bolt slams forward into it. That is what leaks. I don't want to crack the bolt open, but in the front of it where it's flat there is this plug thats been tapped in there once the construction of it was done. Im sure I could open that up, but I'm afraid I'd ruin the bolt/valve/chamber. It seems like it's not getting a good seal internally, and hence it leaks. ------------- . |

Also, incase I have to ditch this for a Pro-carbine; are the barrels interchangable? Or is that the 1% that isn't? It's an 18-inch J & J ceramic and I do not want to let that baby go. ------------- . |

Thanks, it appears to be working. When I have more time, I'll set it down with a full tank in and let it sit for a while. If it hasn't lost all pressure by the end of the day, I know it's good to go. But at least now it works.
