So today when I arrived in my second period I knoticed something strange. So I instinctly checked my pockets to make sure my cell and cd player are there. And guess what, no cell phone. So I tell my teacher that I think I left it at my locker hoping it just fell out of my pocket while accesing my school supplies. She lets me go see and its not there. So I go to the freshmen office to see if somewon found it and turned it in, no luck. At lunch after 3rd period I go to the lost and found to see if its there, nope. Then I'm told to check with the dean. The dean tells me He hasnt got one and tells me to talk to the school officer. So I go to the officers portable and he tells me to come back 5 minetes later. 10 minetes later I come back and wait for another 5 minetes to speak to him. Then finnally I get to tell him my situation, and he tells me to go the office and file a report, and I told him that the office said to come here to file a report. He was very nice and took a description of my phone (which was 2 weeks old), my # and ect. So I carry on through out my day hoping that I would get it back. I dont. So I called sprint and had the line suspended and find out somewon already bought about 6 ringtones, and sent $20 dollars with of text messages. Damnit! Luckily I was told I dont have to pay for this. Moral of my story, dont take your cell phone to school, bad things will happen. Also I have no money so I will not have a phone for a few months. -------------

I lost my wallet at the beach once, a kindly old couple took it to a bunch of places ending with the police station, i left my name and number there, they left a message on my machine by the time i got back and said it was on its way in the mail. Lol, that reminds me of the time I dove down a slip-n-slide with a pool at the end with my phone in my pocket. I went down a good 3 or 4 times before realizing my phone was in my pocket Luckily the guys at the Verizon store believed that "it just stopped working, I don't know why" so I got another one free.-------------

You dont need to be texting in school, see your friends after class, call them after school. You dont need a cell phone in school, it doesnt need to be turned on, school is for learning and cell phones are a distraction.
I use me cell phone for business as sometimes people need to get a hold on me emediatly, you are a high school student, no one needs to get a hold of you right this second. Cell phones are a status symbol and a class room disruption, and it could get stolen by some other bratty kid. its not a distraction to me at all...if i recieve a call during school time it has to be at least once evey couple months and it's not killing me to look to see who it was after class...this way i know to contact them after school ends...once again people like to keep their phones on them at all times even when they dont use them as in at school many simple cases at school when a cell phone would be needed would be such as calling my dad during lunch or after school to tell him i have to stay after for something so he doesn't worry about me...after school if i leave with friends and go out and do something which is alot...i call my rents to let them know ill be out and so ill have my phone on me... it's not retarded at all to keep a phone on you during school hours...the problem is idiot kids who talk on their phones to their buddy in the other room *and the kids that get their phones stolen are the idiots who like to flash their stuff around with everything else they own such as ipods, wallet, expensive jewlery etc, and wear their cell phones on a stupid clip dangling out in the open with their shirt tucked in showing the phone off -------------

Doesnt matter, your a kid, you dont need a cell phone.
Someone calling you every couple hours in school is too much. You kids are there to learn not talk on your cell phones. And keeping it on vibrate doesnt do anything, everyone can hear that. You can just as easily keep your phone at home and bring some change with you if you desperatly need to use the phone. You do not need a phone in school. Only in specific cases would you need one. I carried a phone all through highschool because my parents work for the military and that was my mothers office that got hit on 9/11, something like that is pretty much the only reason you would need a phone in school. Sick grandma, mother is an invalid.. ect ect. You dont need some gaudy phone to keep up with your friends in school do it at home on your own time. I happen to be one of the few people at my school that acctually needs one. With so much Student Government and OA work I need to reach various chairs and officers to communicate.

'Need' and 'Don't need' are words I saw alot. Shut up. Nobody needs anything in school accept bookbags and their hw. Maybe a few pencils. Hades, DB, we don't live in the days of abucus's anymore and people DO have cell phones no matter what. DB, you used the example of 9/11 and how a family members building was hit saying that that is why you needed to have a phone on you. Could you have predicted that though? No. If that was the case, she would not have gone to work that day. What if I leave my cell in my room tomorrow, and my car breaks down or there is a school shooting or some random stuff like that? Should I say, 'Well some people don't think I should have one because they feel it is only their for social status!' No. People get cell's because their parents find it to be a good idea. This is because their parents might need to get ahold of them, or vise versa. It's why the family plan was invented. If you wanna say somethin negative about the situation, then tell him he should have called his friggin phone! weather he had a payphone to do it from or not, I'm sure his friends have cellphones too. Or you could just use the phones that are in each room of the school. No wonder we have the worst education ratings of the civilized world. What text are you going to get that is so important? "Mommy left a snack in the fridge for when you get home?" Okay, Snipa lets think about this, what is a high school student going to do for a parent that has a heart attack? They cant sign medical forms, so your useless there, you cant legally sign yourself out of school, so your stuck there, your parent can call an ambulence to get a ride to the hospital because your not allowed drive like a maniac to get her to the hospital. So what good is a minor going to be when the heart attack strikes? There is nothing useful for them to do but cry at the bedside and hope they parent is okay.... |

School: 25% learning, 75% waiting for class to end. I played games on my phone or listened to my headphones during that 75% of the time. Passed with B's I didn't call people in school because it was unnecessary, that I will agree on. I don't see the problem with having it with you.
While your argument about not using it in class is right, you are trying to argue about not having it. Pointless. Just like my whole post is pointless, and every post about having a phone in school is pointless.

I did call my phone, it had been turned off. My phone is set to lock autimattically after being turned on, you have to enter a code. Therefor the phone is useless to them. I keep my phone on vib in case somewon calls me, occasionally I play a game of tetris. While I agree that it is pointless to call somewon during school hours, I believe it is a good thing for activitites ect. Also, take Columbine for example, kids who where there where able to contact authorities from their cell phones. And dont say that they could have used a payphone, because it was probably in the middle of the hallway where you could be seen and shot, therefor having a phone was good. -------------

Yes it does. I've had many situations where my parents were not able to pick me up and I either had to hitch a ride or walk home. Without a cell phone, they would have to have called the school and go through the mess of getting a note to me. Our school doesn't have a payphone and we are not allowed to use the office phones. What do you propose we do?
If you can drive, walk out. Ff my mom mom was having a heart attack, I would skip and drive to the hospital immediately. Being there for support usually is enough help. If you mom had a heart attack, would you go visit her? -------------

Yes because the first thing Mommy wants you to do after she has a heart attack is have her 14 year old son walk to the hospital, since you dont drive yet and cry at her bedside while the doctors are running tests on her. |

Get your parents to leave a message with the office when they cant pick you up? Easy solution. Sure it's handy when you're out with friends, but in class it should be turned off anyway, so why have it even there? I have mine on me, but I dont have a regular phone in my room. |

That would drive the school office insane. So many kids change their plans at the last minute and if every time they had to call their mommy using the office phone, or everytime their parents couldn't pick them up a message had to be delivered to them through the office; it would drive the office insane. -------------

Again, there is nothing your going to be able to do to help your heart attack mother that cant wait till after school hours. Otherwise daddy, if there is one around can stop by the school and pick you up. Oh and one more thing. Your mommy isnt going to stop and call you if she is having a heart attack.... As for the 14 year old drivers, where is the car your going to magically appear from so you can go rescue mommy? |

As for the Columbine incident comment.... The school teachers called the police and emergancy services so all the other student cell phone calls would just clog the 911 phone system with OMG!!! THEY SHOT JOHNNY!!! WAHHHHH!!!!
The students of Columbine didnt have cell phones, and they wouldnt have saved any lives since the two shooters were dead before the police responded... |

Do you speed in your car? Because if you do, you don't need to be on the road, it's no place for your immaturity. Some people do need to get held of right away. What if my dad was put in the hospital, or my mom needed to tell me to pick my brother up after school. My secretary is notorious for "forgetting" messages. Just because you don't need them doesn't mean you shouldn't have them. You don't need a computer at your house, but you have one. School is just a much a place for cell phones as the super market. Should I not have one there, I should be grocery shopping!!!! Your points are so out there, I know your not much over 18, and I think your thinking of the texters that have their phone out constantly. Therefore if the students were able to call with cell phones at the time, my example was a likely scenerio of why it wouldnt have been good for the students to call. And to all those people who freaked out about having to walk home from school. It wont kill kill you. I walked home from school a lot. A little over two and a half miles. Why do you keep referreing to "us kids"? Arent you 19 or 20? I keep my cell phone in class with me, always on vibrate. I have never recieved a phone call during class, and only once recieved a text message. of course nobody needs them, but they are a convienence. Hrmm. I drive a car, and I carry a cellphone becuase of that. It is always on vibrate mode. I never use it in school, unless it is between class and I forgot somthing that I need my mom to bring me or somthing.
Alot of you guys saying "Oh well there is no reason to have phones in school" are ignoring what we are saying about it. Not to mention, it really just sounds like the mindless "Well in my day we walked 15 miles up hill in the snow both ways" speaches. Yeah, dont use your phone in class, if it rings out loud, you deserve to get it taken away. But to say "well you should never have a phone at school ever" is just plain stupid. -------------

Maybe I am being taken too literally. By in school, mean in the classroom, out in the areas where other students can see it. I am not saying students should not have on one their person, concealed and shut off. It doesnt take more than five seconds to turn the thing on.
If these cell phones are being used for emergencies as being claimed then all the other students dont need to know about it so they arent tempted to steal it. If it wasnt being broadcast that you have a cellphone because you people are always obessing over it and sneaking glances at it for the time and to see it that new text came, then it wouldnt get stolen. I know that some of you have your heads attached the neck and shoulder and dont behave in this fashion, but for those that dont, I dont need to hear you complain when your cell phone, mp3 player, psp, gameboy, and everything else you take to school because you want to show off gets stolen. |
