I thought it was pretty good. I read the book before going to see the movie, and I was impressed at how much the movie followed the book. I dont know how accurate of a portrayal that movie is of life in the Marine Corps or war in general, but it is a pretty good movie.

It was good for me until the part with their last objective (can't get
too specific or I'll spoil it). I had already heard the outcome so I
was disappointed when what happened happened.
If I hadn't known that, I would have enjoyed the entire thing.

Excellent movie. Basically the Full Metal Jacket for the new gneration of infantry or marines.
It was incredibly cerebral, and basically defines the infantry. Those outside of the military culture likely won't 'get it'. I'd like to think it was made for thsoe of us within it.

that was basically part of the whole movie. they wanted to make a kill and they never did.
the 4hours, 4 mins, and 1 sec is time of thier war and they didn't get to make a kill so they were upset about it. (not gonna give away the ending)

I think most people who didnt like it, were people looking to see another BlackHawk Down or Private Ryan...
A mindless movie of explosions and "ZOMG REALLISTIC KOMBAT".

Exactly, the marines were very quick to say they didn't support the movie or any of its content.

A lot of people don't seem to realize that it's a true story. Anthony Swofford was a marine in the gulf war who wrote the book as a sort of memoir. The movie follows the book quite well.
It's not made to be pro war, or anti war, or pro marines, or anti marines or anything. It's simply a true story, someone bearing witness on their experiences in the marines. Judge it on its own merits, not on your conception of what it's supposed to be or support.
Agian, I think it was an excellent movie. It shows the mental side of being a soldier... There were a dozen times where I saw something happen and almost laughed aloud in the theatre because it so closely mimiced some of my (relatively limited) experience in the military. The bit about them complaining about their canteens being broken in the NBC suit football game jsut cracked me up. I've never sen a military movie that protrayed kit deficiencies like that. Friggin' funny.

Yeah, I thought the movie was pretty cool. I also read the book before watching the movie. I too, was impressed with how close the movie followed the book. Like brihard said, it was based on a true story and the movie followed the book very closely. More closely than I would have thought, hence the reason for the rating. I agree that the people who didn't like it were expeciting some kind of saving private ryan movie. All-in-all, a great movie.

I think what he means is that sometimes things get changed when they're published. And because it's someones account of something it is their opinion.
