Hey, what kinda sight rail does the 98c have?  I wanna get the BSA 30mm that fits a 7/8 weaver.  Do I need to get a new sight rail also?

Well, the top of my 98 Custom receiver is grooved to accept both the Weaver and the 3/8". But, the Weaver style mount on the BSA Red Dot has a cross bolt that is designed to lock the site into a cross groove so that it doesn't move under recoil (it has two cross bolts, but only one is mounted low...the standard Weaver design). I had to re-drill the cross bolt hole in the site  and relocate the bolt to a higher position in the base of the site to allow clearance so the Weaver style clamp could reach far enough down to engage the dovetails.

Tighten the bolts and site it in. You might consider adding one of the flip cap type front lens covers that is clear to protect the lens from paint. The front lens will handle impact just fine, but it is a pain to clean the paint off the lens because it is recessed slightly. Use a squirt bottle of plain water to aid in cleaning the lens. The BSA unit is water proof so there is no danger of damaging the site.

You could take a round file and cut a groove across the top of the receiver for clearence if you wanted to, but I prefer to be able to clamp the site anywhere on the rail. The 3/8" site is easier, but if you get a price break on the Weaver style site don't pass it up...it requires just a little work to get it to fit.

BTW, here is the BSA Red Dot with the 3/8" mounting setup intended for 22 rifle mounting. In Cabelas on-line catalog.

Now you can enjoy the quality of BSA's Red Dot series in a scope designed for .22-cal. guns. These sights have a small, bright red dot (5-MOA size) in the center, and you can adjust the brightness of the dot to suit your needs. The 11-position click rheostat control knob makes for easy adjustments. Lightweight and compact, it comes in a silver finish and sports a dovetail mount, for rimfire rifles and airguns.
