YES RLY.

Actually, it's more like a booklet.  Advice for junior associates in law firms.  Not so excitinc unless you happen to be, well, a junior associate in a law firm (or a law student).

Not exactly a nailbiter.

Ah, unfortunately nobody is getting rich off this thing.  I figure I sell at most a thousand copies a year, and I probably make a dollar per sale (depends on final retail price).

So, no early retirement for me yet.

There is some sex in the book, but only ...ual harassment, unfortunately.

Next up, a self-help book.  That, and my epic fantasy novel that I've been working on for the last ten years.

Yeah, the whole "self-help" thing is half racket, half the author spouting "how I think it should be".

Quote But if your Novel is anything like Robert Jordans work I'll be the first one to worship the ground you walk on.

I wish.  Jordan is excellent (although George Martin is even better).  I don't have the imagination for that level of plot complexity.  I'm going more for scene ambiance than super plot.  Comic book in written form.  Sin City in particular is what I am going for, style-wise.  It's pretty hard, though.

And for the people looking for a copy - I get a limited number of author's copies.  If there are any left after sending them to all my uncles and cousins, I might shoot some around the forum.

Hating lawyers is all popular these days, and sometimes for good reason.  Of course, most people have no idea what most lawyers do for a living, and are hating on the wrong people.  And even when you are hating on the right lawyers, they are really just a product of the system.  Hating on the symptom isn't particularly insightful.

But, as somebody else pointed out, skill at lying is pretty much required for the job.  Technically we aren't supposed to lie, but I am awfully good at twisting the truth into little balls of confusion.  We like to call it "information management".  It's all about spin, really.

I can see where that could get annoying to people on the outside.

Ok, I have to ask..

The over-billing, or the mafia-hits?

-------------

Posted By: Rambino
Date Posted: 17 December 2005 at 2:06pm

Overbilling does happen, but not often, and people go to jail for it (a partner at a major Chicago firm was sent to jail for many years for billing 5000+ hours per year for several years).

The mafia hits - well, that just depends on who your clients are.  Anything for the client.

We do have several private investigators on standby, though.

Wha-wha-whaaa?!

The Wheel of Time is outstanding.  I'll give you drug out, but I love every minute of it.  Books 4 and 5 in particular are pure genius.

But, as I have said elsewhere, George R.R. Martin's Song of Fire and Ice is the best writing in epic fiction right now.
