Background: I traded paintjob for a C3. She arrived the day before the
big game. I didnt get a chance to read the manual before taking her
out. While on the field I chrono'd anywhere from 160-270. I finally got chance to mess around w/ her and here is what i discovered. My propane/air mixture may have been off. It was shipped from Milsane (in Iceland?? well somewhere up north) to me in New Mexico. I was at ~5,000 ASL when i first shot her and had all sorts of crazy velocities. I just tuned her according to the directions. Next, I was using a mix of old paint, Marbs, Draxus midnight, )Draxus something else). When I say mixed, i mean literally a hopper full of multicolor gumballs. So after tuning the gas mixture I started shooting. My velocity was ok, a little wavering, but all in all ok. The bucket I was shooting at (eye level) was too close (back splatter) so I moved the bucket across the garage to a new (lower) location. I fired some more rounds and my velocity went all ca-ca again. I scratched my head and proceed to shoot 1 ball at a time. While dipping the marker to load her, my paintball rolled right out. ZING! My detent wire must be bent. So I took her apart and looked at my latch. Didnt seem out of whack, but maybe it had been. I put it back together and grab a draxus paintball and drop it in the chamber. It rolled right thru. Grabbed a Marbalizer and it stuck. I loaded the hopper with marbs and start shooting. Much better results, but I then discovered that the pumping action governs the amount of propane. So a quick rack of the slide might only get me 245 FPS, while a good one-onethousand in the back position would fill the chamber and get me 300 FPS. So no racking this baby like daddys shotgun, you have to be more deliberate. So now I'm off to research paint:barrel matching for the C3. Hope this helps. Yes, sometimes it is just a matter of brand for the paintballs because all of them vary a little, so find a tight fit and stick with it.. However I thought I read somewhere in this forum that the speed of the pump is indifferent to the amount of propane let in. It seems to have some effect in your case. Odd. I hadn't thought of that. I think I'll test it out and see formyself. I don't doubt your results, but this is something I must see for myself. I've had velocity inconsistancies myself and was sort of curious about it. I haven't monkeyed with it enough to figure any of this out though....excellent sleuthing! ------------- ? |

Thats why the manual warns you to pump the gun fully. The brass nub under the barrel is the injection valve, when you pump back the pump handle smacks the valve and operates it. As for rollout, the wire detent is only an anti double feed, when the bolt chambers the ball it passes over the detent into the barrel, so a bad paint match will rollout, just like a sniper. -------------

I have noticed the ball rolling from the barrel, but I did attribute that to a bad paint/bore match. It just made sense that that would be the case. It did that before I monkeyed with it at all, so I didnt think that there was anything wrong with my detent. ------------- ? |
