I dont know when these were made i just know that they are failry old but im not 100 percent positive as i dont play woods/scenario but it seems to me that it is a design that would work better than current paint grenades, was also wondering if anyone still uses the design. But yeah just kinda stumbled ont it found it abit interesting and thought that i would share it.

these grenades were fun (best guess is 8 - 10 years old), theres a gunpowder charge in there that blows the cardboard, paint and a pulpy mix of both outward.  If i remember right, you would just yank off that white cap to ignite fuse.  You would run into some that were stored on thier side of a long period of time and the paint would settle on that side making it a claymore that would almost always blow twards the dirt.  Most fields do not allow them anymore.  Great fun for a scenario tho im sure...  You could even cook these nades and use them to airburst on people.

you had to pull the cap off, and then pull on a string.

Last time I used one of those as around 1995-96. I had even forgotten who made them.

My personal opinion is that they were the best ever made.
  • They made a sound like a ladyfinger (tiny) firecracker so, refs, and more importantly the target new one had been used.
  • The paint was thick enough (like slime, or marshmallow goo but, pasty) so, that when you were hit, you knew it.
  • They had the most uniform blast pattern. Squirters may not squirt in the direction of your target.

Thanks for the info as i said before i never have been into scenario play or anything, i used to play in the woods but thats when i was starting so yeah, and as you said they are like 8-10 years old and i havent been playing that long. Thanks for the info i was really interested in how they worked and feel that this desing would work really well why did they stop making them? too dangerous, expensive does anybody know?

I wish I knew the reason why they stopped making them.  They were more expensive than the squirter types (maybe by 2-3x).  They also may have been restricted to sales only to adults since they are a variation of a firecracker.

Only possible risks I can think of:
Holding it in your hand after you pulled the pin- Since it was too big for you to close your hand around it, you wouldn't have overpressure damage like you would by holding even a ladyfinger in a closed fist (DONT DO THAT KIDS!).  So, probably a bruised palm, and maybe (extreme possibility) a broken finger or thumb.

Having one go off next to your head- as loud as a ladyfinger at best.

Now, here's something to consider:  Where did you get it, where do you live?  I used them at Magic Carpet Bob's American Canyon Paintball, in northern California.  I got them directly from the field's pro shop, and I never saw them anywhere else (to include I&I sports).  Considering how fey people are familiar with them, I suspect they never really caught on.

I remember them.. the good ole days of paintball. I rarely saw one that actually worked let alone do any sort ot major marking... Just like the rest of the paint grenades out there, waste of money and more than likely a dud.
