They can do this anyway. Wire taps and whatnot. Its not like anything is changed by this. Police use wire taps all the time, they subpena phone bills and what not.

Specifically at issue here are wiretaps WITHOUT warrants. Bush says he didn't want to take the time to get warrants. Cynics translate that into "didn't have probable cause". I don't anybody is griping about wiretaps WITH warrants. |

If you mean "democrat" as in believer in democracy, then I find it telling that you exclude yourself from the group. If you mean "Democrat" as in member of the Democratic Party, then you are (again) jumping to unfounded conclusions. I am certainly no Democrat, and there are several prominent Republicans (like Arlen Specter) who are outraged at Bush's spying.

perhaps i can try to properly defend the poorly constructed statement
hampster boy was trying to make( won't be easy with the majority here
is obviously democrats but i'll give it a go) Alright, I will raise 3 points here that support the presidents Patriot act and then try to point out some flaws and how they can be correctly handled. 1) Warrants do take time and sometimes there are situation that time is not a thign authorites have on thier side. By eliminating the beurocracy involved (before) placing a wire tap we essentially allow those assigned to protect American lives to take action where and when nessecary. 2) Terrorism of all sort comes from within the United States. Contrary to popular beleif Middle Easterners are not the only ones who can commit act of terrorism. It is nessecary to moniter what certain American "threats" do TO AN EXTENT. 3) With the rise of the computer and other forms of modern technology it makes it increasingly simpler to organize and plan out an attack against not only American but everyone and there for the governemnt should be permitted to moniter the sources of potential threats TO AN EXTENT In the above i have stated that in which uberhampster obviously had a problem trying to. Now as promised I the problems. Obviously none of us want our rights as American Citizens violated so in part we all must think is this the right direction to proceed in. Like all government run operations this program needs to be monitered and while warrants would not be required to place the wire tap(in time restricted situation) they should at least be approved by a responsible senior officer. When they are used information should be presented to a Judge or whomever to say that the tap was used, why it was used, and what information was gained by using it. If this begins to be used inappropriatly of course should not go unpunished. In review I think that while a warrant may not be be nessescary to start the wiretap when the appropriate time comes the appropriate authority shoudl be notified that it was done and should make a ruling on whether or not it was justified. Well its not perfect but i must say i did a better job than our rodent freind. |
