I have a theory. To make it anything more then a theory I need testing. The testing requires Tippmanns. I only have one. This is why I need some help. My theory is that, if you don't have a chrono available, a sure way to set your marker around 260 fps is to take the volocity screw out. Yes, thats right. It came to me when I descovered how the volocity adjustment works on a Tippmann. The screw causes turbulance. The more it screws in the more turbulance. The less its screwed in, the less turbulance. But, take it out and it leaves a hole. The hole is the same size on every power tube, so theoretically the air escaping through the hole should be the same with every marker, IF the air flow into the marker is the same psi. This is where I need the help. Test it with high psis and see how high you can get the volocity without the screw in. My friend played at a field without the screw in a passed chrono. To pass the chrono you had to be at like 260 or less. He was using CO2 and a remote. It was nice and warm, so unless he had his remote on/off valve thing impeading the air flow it should have been at least 800 psi, right? Anyways, it was just an idea. I thought if it could be tested and everything would check out at 270-280 fps at a good 850 psi it would be a good thing for backwoods ballers to do if they couldn't get hold of a chrono. Share your thoughts or trials.

that wouldnt make for a very powerfull shot... you ever unscrewed ur volocity screw almost all the way out? its not a real great thing...

I'm not saying almost all the way out. If its almost all the way out its still creating a seal. There is no air escaping. Take it out all the way and there is a hole there. The air will escape through it, making for far slower volocities. Instead of turbulance its just letting some of the air out. Its no less efficient either, unless your using a reg.

Wether or not it works is not in question. I've seen it work first hand. Wether or not it works consistantly, and at high input pressure is what is in question. Just try it out. Its a Tippmann it wont break*.

*Here is a disclaimer for any smartbutts: That was a figure of speach. Anything that you do that I told you to do is your own doing. That means if it breaks its your fault. If you blow off your dogs head, its your fault. If your valve gets screwed up its your fault, and its also most likely not caused by this test.

ya, air escaping, that means its got even less power, so its not gunna work very well

Just do it and tell me how it works. Its not hard. Don't guess. I'm the one guessing. Your the one that us supposed to tell me if my guesses are correct. I've seen this work before. Its not going to be any less efficient and it will let you know for sure that your shooting at a safe volocity, something that should be top on every paintballers list. I'm fine with taking critisizm, but back it up.

not sure i want too... it could possibly have negative effects on my gun, and i dont have any air

Its not hard. Don't guess. I'm the one guessing.

well if you get too guess... so do i

Your the one that us supposed to tell me if my guesses are correct.

i dont see you doin it either, you can help out on this you know, and besides i can comment if i want to...

 I've seen this work before.

then why are you telling us to do it so you know it works?

Its not going to be any less efficient

thats not what i was trying to tell you, i mean, not only is your velocity turned waaaaay down, the whole screw is gone, so there is goin to be barely any power from the paintball so it wont go very far and i doubt it would break on a person if you managed to hit them, very little force being put on the ball means very little range, speed, accuracy and power... simply... its FPS goes WAAAAY down

and it will let you know for sure that your shooting at a safe volocity,

well ya... but i prefer to shoot above 60 FPS...

something that should be top on every paintballers list.

for my free time i make exsploding pens, snipe people with airsoft guns, and do dare devil stunts with my friends... safety isnt too big on my priority list... i know most people care... but there are those few people myself included, who dont mind all that much

 I'm fine with taking critisizm,

well apperently not or you wouldnt have gotten all defensive

 but back it up.

im using common sence to do that... i mean think about it... you can get to and below that safe point with the volocety screw in... so then not only do you take it even farther down getting rid of all turbulence, but then you take it out letting some air escape making it even lower! so there is a waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay lower PSI then there should be...

soo as a wise man once said... GOOD DAY SIR! *sorry i had to steal it this once... it just makes me smile everytime i see it*

I think your confusing psi with fps.

The screw does not change the psi, it affects the fps.  This is not a safe way to assure fps. All markers should be chronoed before play. There are other factors such as temperature and elevation to change fps.

How the heck would taking the velocity screw out damage your gun in any way sneaky sniper???

So you loosing your screw is the same as this test damaging your gun?

One success means its possible, it doesn't mean it will happen every time. Someone on another forum was helpfull enough to inform me that he had tried this and that he had chronoed several fps over 300. And you say 60???

And I may have accidentaly replaced fps with psi and vise versa. However, psi will effect fps, which is the point I was trying to make. I was wanting the test to be done at different psis.

And please, if you going to try to pick my post apart and respond to it, don't take it out of context. I could respond back to some of what you said just by putting my phrases back into context. You even took sentances apart, no wonder they didn't make sense to you.

And I'm sorry if I offended anyone by being defencive.

Ok, so your trying to prove PSI directly affects FPS.

I can tell you right now thats true. But if you want to try it, go buy a regulator and adjust the psi every tenth shot or so.

I personaly think the best way to adjust FPS is to change the force of the hammer (rear velocity adjuster).

no i just dont want to loose it and i have no air, so im not gunna be able to help out on ur little exspirament

yes one says it can be done, but each one could b a fluke, your guy with FPS over 300, is highly unlikly for reasons i already stated...

i do however agree with psi effecting fps

well it may be annoying but its the easiest way i can write it without it being confusing, believe it or not its nothing personal, im just trying to give you my view of this matter, and i know you could respond back to me, and thats fine, go right ahead.

And I'm sorry if I offended anyone by being defencive.

 ITS OK BUDDY!!!

There are too many variables that affect velocity to ever have a single setting that would guarantee a certain velocity.  By removing the velocity screw all you are doing is removing the easiest way of adjusting the velocity.

Yes, thank you rambino, but the idea was to make the marker so that at the highest likely psi the marker could not fire over the highest safe volocity. It may take away the ability to adjust, but it will unsure that it doesn't need to be adjusted to be safe. I understand that there are other variables as well. I was just thinking that it could be a possibility that if you could change one enough it would prevent the others from taking the fps over the limit of 300, and still give you enough fps to play. Thanks to you all I have a better idea. Increase chrono technology and make them cheaper and more available to more players. Sound better?

I honestly don't see any way it could do any sort of damage. If you would care to explain this in detail to me I will listen, but the manual saying not to without giving any reason what so ever isn't very persuasive. You know, I half way expected someone to explain to me why this wouldn't work very well, and they have. But I never expected someone to say that this could damage the marker or something like that.

The Velocity screw hols the powertube in place. No VAS=randomly jittering powertube.

Really? I didn't know that. It doesn't look Like it would do anything like that. I'm not sure I get what you mean by powertube either. This is something that somewhat confuses me. Is the power tube just the black plastic part, or is it the entire assembly? Because I know that those two screw on the right reciver hold the thing to the marker. Are you saying that the internals of the powertube will move if the volocity screw is removed? If they did move out of place, wouldn't this prevent the volocity screw from being re-inserted? That never happened to my friend...
