Just wondering...
I just went out and threw 7 clays for myself and hit 7/7, I was useing my single shot 20 gauge, I normally use a 410, But 20's shells are 50% cheaper.
So who shoots?

I shoot clays and I actually reload my shells. I shoot an
over-under twelve guage. First barrel is modified and second is
improved cylinder.
I shoot singles (dust), doubles, and nesting pairs.
Singles I am almost always on but on doubles I miss more on my first
shot that second. I find that I need work on leading more on my
first shot because I end up clipping the clay (or bird) on the first
shot and have to regroup and take a better second shot.

I do!! 185/200 I shoot a benelli nova, remington 1100 20 ga, mossburg 500 12 ga, winchester model 20 .410 (1915 worth about 400 bucks), stevens double barrel side by side 12 ga, and Ive shot a 1/50 with my long bow. Yea I saw him do it on american shooter so I went out and tried.

I've done sporting clays but never skeet. It was a pile of fun, but I really need to borrow a good over-under if I want to have a chance. I tried using a remington 870 youth gun in .20 gauge and it was just about impossible. It really didn't fit me right, and was really tough to get doubles with. Not to mention after 100 rounds it'd kill your shoulder. My uncle let me use his weatherby orion and I did a whole lot better. I'd like to do it more often, but rifle and bullseye pistol is really more my thing.

The first shotgun I got was a .410 single-shot, and you're right shells are too expensive!
I've never had a 20, just went straight from .410 to the 12.
What is the difference between trap and skeet? We used to buy a bunch of clay pigeons and go have competitions, bit not recently.
I need to practice more, but I also need hearing protection.

Being familiar with your gun is extremely important.
With that old .410, I would suck and be lucky to hit half my targets. It also had a fixed full choke which didn't help anything.
Once I moved up to the 12guage, and had the ability to change out my chokes, I started doing a TON better.

Not skeet, but Trap is my game.
During the season I shoot once a week, maybe more with my team.
25/25 is my best score (don't get any better). But I usually hit
21 to 23 outta 25. I shoot a single barrel break open Browning
BT-99, I love that gun.

I think skeet was what I did, where you stand behind the launcher and
it fires the clay up and away from you at a random angle and
orientation.
I got 22/25.

Thats not what hear...............at all.
Yeah Benelli's are extremly nice, but my nova was only 350 bucks brand new, 3 1/2 inch magnum camo everything. Its a pump so it was cheap but smooth and I shoot doubles with it pretty good. But I like the Side by side for doubles.

My friend just bought a Remington 870 12 gauge. Quite nice, he wants to
go to the range to test it out, I think I'm gonna go with him.

12's are WAY to easy to shoot with, Not to mention they rip apart your shoulder.
I as well Pop up, I dont shoulder it before the throw any more.

^ The pattern of the 12guage is no bigger than a 20, it just has more pellets inside the pattern.

Yeah the pattern is the same, But normally a 12 has more powder and pellets, Which means faster shot. Which means less lead time and a way easier chance of powdering the target.
|

You are right on the "powdering" the target, because the shot pattern is "denser", but I don't think a comparable 12guage load will shoot any faster or higher velocity than the 20guage load.
The 12 guage has proportionately more powder/shot than the 20guage load. It has more propellant, but also more shot to propel.
