That's right, I'm in love, I said it.

With

My TI-89. Now I've had this calculator for a few years now and let me tell you. It is one of the best investments I've ever made. Some people buy the under powered TI-83s or 84s but they're foolish. The real money is in the 89. This calculator is the reason why I've passed math for the past four years. Don't get me wrong I'm pretty good at math but once you learn how to actually use this thing for its more advanced funtions your homework will fly. Remember in algebra when it took people forever to solve problems? Yeah, well it doesn't with the 89, you just select the proper fuction then type the equation in, tell it what you want to solve for and BAM. Correct answer instantly in the proper format that you have to write it on the test in.

Now, why I'm writing this post today.

So I'm in Calculus and quite frankly, I have no idea what's going on. This is possible the first time in a math class that I've ever been confused. I had a quiz today and studied all last night from the book trying to figure out what the hell was going on with our problems. It got me nowhere. So today before the test I got the answer sheet and a practice test and figured out how to properly use the built in fuctions to correctly solve the problems. I figureed it all out in about a half hour before the test. I get in the class, look at the test and almost laughed. It was about 4 times easier than th epractice. I breezed through it in about 10 minutes. I was done well before anyone else in my class. Even the people that actually know what's going on and I'm quite sure I've got an A on it.

I <3 TI-89

Calculus. Ugh.

I did well in math up to that point. Made three seperate attempts to take Calc I. One failure, two withdrawals. Couldn't hack it.
I didn't want to be an Engineer anyway. :)

Even a TI-89 couldn't have saved me.

Glad it's doing wonders for you.

I <3 calculus.

Of course, back in my day, we weren't allowed to use them there new-fangled graphing calculators - we had to solve our differential equations the old-fashioned way.

And then we walked home, uphill in the snow, and we liked it.

I was the opposite.

I did ok in elementry math, and once Algebra hit, I simply did horribly. I managed to pass, but with grades like Ds and Cs. Geometry was slightly better, because I made B's and C's. Algebra 2 was the same as Geometry.

In precal, I had a horrible time. I would consitently fail the quizes, but on test day I managed to do ok. I passed the class, but usually with C's.

Calculus rolls around, and bam, I am able to get most everything that is presented to me. I do well on the quizes, above average on the tests(though that is still a C, these are questions that our teacher feels are AP test level or above[partly because he takes the questions from AP exams and changes the numbers]), and on the labs we do I am usually able to come to the conclusion he wants us to.

regardless, I am only using an 84 because it is what the teacher uses and explains how to do whatever is needed to be done.

Well it is a graphing calculator and there is a graph in the picture, so no. It does not do graphing.

I paid 80 off ebay they used to cost about $160 new when I got it, I'm sure the price has dropped.

Yeah, Calc is a bit rough for me right now too. Thank god I have this. And I don't need calc to get into the presidency....just look at the current one.

I'm making a program on my 84 for algebra II.  It has almost every type of equation in it that I will ever use in algebra, all conveniently organized in menus.  Its really nice, I'm about half finished.

(Its nto just liek it shows the the equation, you input your numbers and it will do whatever the problem is)

No but serously when you got home in your cabin it was cold so you had to get a fire going. So you had to Walk 6 miles to the nearest tree to chop down for wood. Too bad you didnt have a sled so you had to carry the logs one by one to the cabin. Then you got in trouble for eating the last piece of corn bread so you Pa told you to get a switch from the yard. Then again you had to walk... 7 miles to the next tree to get a switch. Once you got back the fire was out. Youre Pa whipped ya. And said get more wood for the fire......(and you liked it)

You think I'm joking.  We would ski to school (uphill in the snow both ways), seven miles actually (roundtrip), funny you should pick that number.

For vacation, we would go to Hoth, and yes we had to get a fire going to heat up the ski-only accessible cabin (but only after digging the snow away from the front door to get in).  And yes, heated with wood that we chopped ourselves.  Then we would dig a path through the snow to the outhouse.  If we wanted to eat, we had to get fish - out from under 4+ feet of ice.

And we liked it.

Nah, to expensive of an infrastructure change. Although mandating open source for the goverment could be a good possibility with an easy argument, if it weren't for lobbying.

I'll vote for you if you change the US to the metric system... I predict we'll still be stubborn as heck and not have changed by 2020.

And since the new 84s and 89s have the same case, there is probably a way (with a few slight mods) you could stuff the internals of an 89 into an 84 and take it to the ACT.
