Well, not full paid, but I did get in the Embry Riddle scholars program which is $24,000 worth of scholarships. Oh, and speaking of being on the way to your career, the only thing you have for that is the fact that you sit at the computer all day. I have over 300 flight hours, a pilots license, an instrument rating, a complex endorsement, and am signed off for my commercial checkride.
I've had a 3.6 all through high school, a 1350 on the sat's, all while holding 2 jobs to pay for flight training, working 28 hours a week.
You keep trying to prove you're better than me, but it just isn't working. I wasn't taking this "i'm better than you" stuff seriously, but now that you're trying to prove yourself, it just isn't working.

i'm not "proving who is better" i'm pointing out i am successful and happy with where my life is headed. and i like how you deem computers as a low order technology. i assume your plane is completely mechanical with no electronics being routed to aide you? face it, computers are the future, not matrix style future but we're going to see even more of them and much more advanced abilities. i estimate within my lifetime flights will be computer controlled and pompous assholes like yourself posing as pilots won't be needed.

Yes, I know most crashes are pilot error. The whole thing is,
computers can screw up. There will have to be someone there to at
least watch the computer, and fly if necesary.
Even if it were to happen that people put their lives solely in
computers, I can still fly myself. Sure, I wouldn't have a job
flying a nice plane, but I would be making money as an aeronautical
engineer, and have my own plane to fly whenever the hell I want.

so what controls autopilot then wgp? radio controlled from the ground?
i'll admit i'd like to pilot a plane. but just once. it doesn't seem that hard to fly and if i can do it rather successfully on a simulator that the military and NASA both use to train their pilots, i have no doubt i could pull it off in real life. too bad it would cost too much for an SR-71 blackbird or F-22 raptor...

Proving even more that you don't know jack about flying.
Anybody can hold a plane straight and level.
Just let me know when you can intercept a holding pattern at 2000 feet AGL, in total instrument meteoroligical conditions, over the ocean, at night, while intercepting a glideslope and localizer, and flying an ILS approach down to minimums with a 22 knot crosswind.

Of course anyone can hold a plane straight and level, where did he say that was all he was doing? Simulators on that level do a good job at giving real-world conditions, which isn't always straight and level in no wind.

I doubt he understood any of the terms in that. HV, flying insn't
just holding a plane level until you get to your destination, and your
not always flying in sunny clear skies. No matter how well you do
in a simulator, it doesn't compare to the real thing.
And HV, if you didn't care, then why are you arguing?

ok genius, show me where in my original post i said LOL I CAN HOLD A PLANE LEVEL.

Because they give a fairly accurate simulation of actually
flying. The thing they don't give you is the feel of
acceleration forces, G forces, and you aren't under pressure (as in stressed) in a simulator.

That being said, can you swap out the engine on a performance car without referring to any instructions? Can you file a legal brief? Are you qualified to drive an ambulance? Can you perform surgery? Can you lead a squad of infantry in combat? Can you diagnose the cause of a failure of an automatic weapon and remedy it quickly in a high-stress environment? Can you program computers? Are you qualified law enforcement? Can you do forensic accounting? Do you have a master's degree?
No?
Then shut your mouth. You've chosen a job different only in the nature of skills invovled from every other professional job in the world. You're not smarter or more highly qualified than the majority of people, nor a lot of others on this forum; you simply have a different specialty.
This condescending arrogance you show based on your ability to fly a plane makes me sick. Anyone can learn a certian trade or profession- you're not special based purely on the one you've chosen. You've merely acquired a complementary set of skills; the only thing you have on anyone ion this forum is a couple years of experience. Many of us are currently in post-scondary education. Some of us have professional training of a different nature.
Don't come in here all high and mighty slamming everyone based on the nature of your chosen skill. Everyone ehre has different capabilities and different ambitions.
My respect for people is absed on their attitude rather than their job. I have a lot more respect for the trained mechanic who can fix my car and remain friendly and courteous in the face of my ignorant questions than I have for the lawyer who's a total asshole- or the pilot who thinks he's God.
Fix your attitude, and maybe a couple of us will give a rat's ass.

hey wgp, it works a lot better if you go try the simulator before you bash it. guessing you've never flown xplane, but lemme tell you how it represents those g forces... say you are flying in the raptor, throttle to the max, and you pull back on the controls, since you and your computer are not physically flying at A, the altitude and B, the speed it affects your display and represents excessive g force as you would actually black out. push forward a bit too much and again the blood rush to your head is shown in red and actually if you decide to really push it you can't see anything. anyone with common sense would deduce from this visual representation that after the visibility is null, you probably aren't recovering from that blackout state before you hit the ground. i'm rather aware of the forces present. it doesn't take a pilot's license to think about what occurs in the cockpit. all it really needs is a background in physics...so guess what was a pre-requisite here for AP Chem? if you guessed 3 years of science you would be correct. Bio, Chem, & Physics.

i think its time to stop hating, mr. high voltage.
fyi- at riddle, they have class 4 simulators, that are so close to the real thing that you can actually log the time spent in there as REAL FLIGHT HOURS. its nuts. it costs like 90 bucks an hour, but its damn near the real thing. like 270* screens. pure craziness. they use old cockpits from real planes and use them. so yes, simulators are accurate representations of flying, i dont know where wgp guy got his premonition from, but yeah they are accurate.
theres a section in my logbook where you can log "FTD", or flight training device. this means FAA approved flight sims, not your flight sim computer on your pc. so yes, real simulators ftw.

Obviously you didn't understand me. When I say you don't feel the
G forces, I mean you don't physically feel them. In a simulator,
you may have a black out or a red out, but you don't feel the physical
stress on your body. No current simulators can do that. You
don't actually feel like you weigh more.
I'm not saying that they can't be used for training, just that they don't give you the same sensations as actually flying.

|

Fix your attitude, and maybe a couple of us will give a rat's rear.

well congrats on riddle. every job is just as important as the next, if some one didnt do a job then that recourse or service wouldnt be available so every job is a respectable job (even if your 38 and work at the golden archs). now just to make sure some one doesnt try to misquote me im not saying the people doing the job are respectable (enron) but the actual job is respectable, and needed in some form or fashion.
