Date Posted: 02 March 2006 at 10:41am
ok earlier this mornin i was reading the latest issue of APG magazine and in the co2 mail was a guy complaining about people wearing baggy clothes to get balls to bounce more often and calling those who wear baggy clothes cheaters... how is this cheating? i wear proto 06 pants and they are a little baggy and they are ment for paintball. what is you thought on this subject?

Its not cheating. Its taking advantage of physics. If its not illegal on the field, its not cheating.

I don't know way this would be a problem, baggier cloths take some of the sting out. My crew all wear some sort of loose fitting garments, they allow you to move better also, ever try to stretch in jeans vs sweats?

I wear baggy clothes while playing paintball, that doesnt make me a cheater. Yes, you do get more bounces with baggier jerseys and pants, but I'm not gonna go out there looking like an emo kid with my kid's jersey and skintight sliding pants.

I would think the only place it may be considered "cheating" is for tournament play. Most tournies I have watched in person have rules regarding fit of clothes.
For normal rec play? No issues. Just toss a few extra balls at 'em.

I can see they're point of view but honestly I think they need to calm down it's all in fun and the game. So if i'm in war and i wear a bullet proof chest protecter am I a cheater? Just another way of playing. Who honestly wants to wear spandex while playing paintball(just my opinion.)

a choice in them being big since they only make 1 size waist.

well, it cant be cheating because the only way it would "bounce" off is if the shooter missed the actual body of the target...if it was a dead center shot...the ball would break on impact because theres something solid behind it...but if the paintball just caught clothing thers nothing but air behind the cloth so it would just bounce away...if anything i would say that baggy clothing is bad for the person wearing it because there is always the chance that a ball that only catches your clothing could break...even if the ball would have missed you if you were wearing spandex...

its only cheating if they wipe...i mean, you can wear whatever the hell u want...i mean i wear baggy clothes cz sometimes it takes the pain away...but other times i just wear slider shorts and a cup...wearing baggy clothes isnt cheating unless the field you play at has rules against baggy clothes

I really don't care. My friends and I all wear baggy clothes when pballing. But it doesn't make that big of a difference on account of majority of the hits we incur are headshots, where there is no padding to cause bounces.

I agree that wearing somewhat baggy clothes isn't cheating (within
reason of course). The only real valid example of cheating with clothes
i've heard is when a player make 2 slits up the side of their jerseys so
that when they lean forward, the front of the jersey hangs out ahead of
thier chest and catches incomming paintballs. Beyond that, anything goes.

False, physics tell us that the cushioning of the baggy clothing will
dramatically effect the force of the paintball when it hits the body.
I was going to attempt to show the math involved, but half the people
here wouldnt get it. And the half that would already know the statement
he made to be false.

Same here i wear under armour and a larger jersey takes alot of the sting away and you're more free to move than you would be in a pair of skin tight clothes. It's couldn't even be remotely considered cheating unless he was wearing like 5 sizes to large.

i think its stupid cuase i ordered my Jt pants and they came 4 sizes bigger so i have to wear a huge belt. baggy pant help in a couple ways like more comfortable, easier to move in and if they consider baggy pants cheating were all not going to turn into micheal jackson and ware tight leather pants on the field, this is why i dont like rules

thats kinda hard, most fields nowadays especially in woods/ scenario games rules state that if you're wearing ghille any hit counts even if it didn't break, its sorta the whole give and take of the thing, yea better cover when your not moving at all but now it will only take 1 shot to get you out.

I don't like overly baggy tournament clothes, they are noisy when you run, some hits can't be felt (and if you really cheat, you can't wipe if you can't tell you've been hit), and they make you a bigger target.
Somewhat baggy is okay. Here in south Florida, loose clothing lets some of the air in, though nothing helps on those 90+ degrees days with the humidity hovering around 100%.
