Im trying to rig a laptop fan in my mask, but i cant seem to make it work, I have a switch, battery and fan, when the switch is on, its fine, but if you turn it off, it kills the batteries, and  the batteries get hot.

Any idea what i need to do?

you have it connected in parralel causing it to short it needs to be in series  . follow this.

take one lead from the battery to the switch, the other lead on the switch to the fan , the other lead on the fan to the battery.

Yeah your shorting out your batteries, try a different wiring job. One wire from battery, to switch to fan back to battery.

its been awhile, but I think you need to disconnect the yellows from the switch, they(yellow) can be twisted together, and the black wires can have one prong on the switch.  Someone correct me.    Its been awhile, forgot the terms to.

Run a wire from the positive side of the battery to the switch. Run a wire from the other switch post to the positive side of fan. Run the negative wire from the fan directly to the battery.

If you don't know which wire for the fan is the positive one, hook it up either way, if the fan is turing the correct direction you have it right.

Thank you so much, it worked, and your directions were very clear

Ha! Go buy some more. Oh, and yeah I agree... Its not that difficult to  wire a simple circuit together if you have passed middle school science. I actully learned circuits in 6th grade.

Is there anything i can do to make it more powerful?

I have two 9 volt batteries hooked up now.

It depends on how you have the batteries wired. You can double your voltage by running one wire to the positive on one battery, and the other wire to the negative side of the second battery. You then add a third wire from the unused positive on the first battery to the unused negative of the second battery.

This is called "in series" wiring.

2 things you can do.  Get a larger fan..... that may be a little larger and less to work with inside your mask.  Second you can get a fan the same size with higher CFM (Cubic Feet per Minute).   P.S. Don't ask me about how long they will last with the batteries, because I wouldn't know how to calculate that, sorry.

I didnt think you could directly connect a negative and a postive together?

It's complicated to explain in detail, so I'll just say: trust me. I just converted a hunting cabin to solar power, five solar panels, charge regulator, power inverter, and 6 deepcycle 6v batteries.

If I can wire 6 6v batteries to equal 12v of output, I can honestly tell you that you will get 18 volts output from your two batteries if you wire them as I explained.

Make sure that it isn't too much power for your fan, if it gets hot, turn it off.

Awesome, it worked! Thanks alot TRAVELER, Another Question is, you mentioned too much power, The fan says 12V, is 18 going to be too much?

Possibly. It depends on who long you leave it running. Be careful that you don't let the fan get too hot.

Many race cars are using 18 volt systems, the extra voltage cranks engines faster, and gives much more power to the spark ignition system on the engine. But most of these race cars are drag racers, to they don't run for a very long time.
