Well I've owned my flatline for the last week and a half and I've finally decided to consult other people for help. Ok this is my situation I have my flatline installed (correctly as far as I can tell) but it is giveing me god awful spreads at distances as close as 30 ft. The balls are acting like the last place they want to hit is where I'm aiming. I understand how to adjust the flatline but these balls are not consistently going off in one direction. I'm not using cheap paint or anything (marbs) so I dont think thats my problem. Not all my balls go off course though I will get a rare incredibly straight shot or a strange series of chops that seem to happen in no real pattern. I'm very tired of going out test shooting the flatline and then coming home and having to clean out the whole gun. It also gives me that delightful half an hour of trying to close the 98 back up with all the pieces not shooting out (just gotta love the front sight spring that tends to go off like a bear trap). I need some help here contact me at mailto:JIMMYJIM989@hotmail.com - JIMMYJIM989@hotmail.com   I'm desperate!!

Theres a couple of things to check. First, make sure the barrel is clean. Take it off your gun, and wash it in warm soapy water. This will get rid' of any grease that might be causing the bad accuracy of your barrel. Second, check your velocity. If you have a chrono, then you'll want your veloicty to be down around 260-270 fps for the best results. If you don't, then just turn down the velocity some, and see if that helps. That's basicly it, taking you have it set up right, and the paint is good (Marbs usually are). Also remember the Flatline isn't the most accurate barrel there is.

Actually thats pretty common in a 98 flatline. My brother and friend both have flatlines on their 98s and they get wild shots all the time. And even get alot of breaks too.  They both checked the flatline to see if its in on all the way or if its perfectly straight.  So, i just think thats how the 98 flatline is.

Check velocity, paint quality(marbs can still have defects) and barrel quality(does it have a burr in the barrel? is it cleaned?)

Too high a velocity is the first likely culprit. Don't assume that Marbs are "good" paint. Over the last year I have found them somewhat fragile and I have found other brands that are consistently more accurate. Lack of accuracy at distances as close as 30 ft indicates a problem that needs to be figured out, not a characteristic of the barrel.

My Flatline has been very accurate at distances where others are, but it took some tuning and effort to keep it clean (hot water and dish detergent...like Dawn). Even when you don't break any paint in the barrel, residue from the ball shells builds up on the matte finished internal surface. The bead blasted inside of the barrel has a texture like very fine sand paper which grinds away at the ball shell leaving deposits that impact accuracy.

Flatlines are somewhat finicky, but if care is taken to keep it clean and fit to the marker properly you do not give up accuracy for distance.

If you are getting shots that curve in all directions or fly in a spiral path sometimes, it is not the barrel itself. It is out of round paint, ball shell residue or contamination in the barrel from broken paint or even rainwater. Don't rule out the occasional opponent shot that breaks on the muzzle of your Flatline contaminating the bore.

Ok I have decided with Bruce in saying its a velocity problem. But, since I do not have a home chrono and I dont want to pay at the local field just to use their chrono. I was wondering if one of you more expierienced paintballers knew what the velocity of a 98 c is when the bolt is fully turned in. If I know this and how much the velocity increased with each turn I could get my velocity to 280. Thanks alot for those who respond.

The velocity varies depending on how full your tank is, the tempeture outside, what upgrades there are, and so on. The only safe way is to suck it up and properly chrono it.
