I have both. They both shoot the same distance if the ball leaves the muzzle at the same velocity. BUT, the Apex will do everything that the Flatline will do and more. The Flatline is finicky about paint. The Apex does a good job with just about any paint. The left, right and dive bomb curves are spectacular to play with. The Apex's ability to, when set to maximum back spin, have a ball rise near the end of it flight has allowed me to catch many an opponent unaware until the splat hits them in the chest.

On-line prices seem to show the Apex at about $20 more than the Flatline. It is worth it! Paint savings alone will pay back that difference in one case of paint.($35 a case verses $65 a case)

I agree with Bruce A. Frank.  I have the Flatline but was able to try out the Apex and it performs much better.  Better tolerance with a variety of paint and you can adjust the direction of the projectile when it leaves the barrel, which I enjoyed doing.  I do like the appearance of the Flatline more than the Apex.  But, its up to you to make the choice or you can do more research on this forum.

I own the apex and it's great.  I don't even find any use for the divebomb or curve, but the straight shots are amazing and it's an accurate straight barrel (as good as a j&j or bigshot i've heard, but never compared.)

Nope, the apex screws in like a regular barrel.  It's just a regular barrel with a part at the end that moves.

Like what? A FLATLINE! Or maybe cheating like a semi that shoots 17 bps. Both were called cheaters when first intorduced.

I play in the woods and like the apex :)  It sucks for indoors, why wouldn't you want to use it outdoors?
